From the article:
Forget the brokered convention: A cabal of establishment Republicans is working on the ultimate firewall that could keep Trump from the White House.

(snip snip cut cut)

a group of Republicans are readying a nuclear option: running a third-party alternative in just a handful of critical swing states in order to block both Trump and likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton from gaining the necessary 270 electoral votes required to claim the White House.

In such instances, according to the 12th Amendment to the Constitution, the choosing of the next president would then fall to the House of Representatives. In the House, each state casts one vote, and considering the current Republican majority in that chamber, would give the election to this newly created third-party ticket.

(And it goes on to read: )

Only once before in American history has the House of Representatives chosen the president. In 1824, despite winning the most electoral votes, Andrew Jackson failed to win a majority in a four-way race. Members of Congress selected John Quincy Adams instead, in what came to be known as “The Corrupt Bargain.”

Weeee... nuclear winter here we come!
Consider the civil unrest while a nation on suicide watch emerges.

I guess aligning with Cruz to make him their patsy to further help steal the nomination away from both Ted and Donald by a brokered convention just isn't foolproof enough, they be goin' to try to take them all out and dump in anyone they damn well please I suppose.

So they would want to be stripping away the independent votes, maybe either Sanders and/or Cruz disillusioned supporters (provided Donald and Hillary win the nominations outright). I wonder what sort of person this would be... someone with the greatest commonality between them I would guess, or at least politically on the surface a bit of an unkown possibly. Maybe even an actor or musician that says their platform is anti-everything and pro-nothing hah, yet bought and paid for by the koch brothers to do this thang.

Anyway, I was thinking like pee-wee Herman... no that's not it. Who could it be? .... maybe these cobal Reps will hit this thread and it'll help em out deciding who it should be and what his message might sound like :)

Yeah the daily beast is priceless sometimes.
Maybe they'll get The Boss to run, to take down the Donald-Boss. His campaign he'll just keep doing Freeeee concerts while he sings I was born in the USA, over and over again. Gets both Sanders and Cruz people to vote for him, along with plenty of hippie independents.

none of this will happen. you're as big as a couch and smell like athletes footI'm not running, no way, I don't want to be pres. You will need to pick someone else to carry your stinky couch platform. Sounds like Roseanna Barr, but I dont know if Cruz supporters would vote for her, but got Sander's voters easy. You'll need to do better than that.

Most career politicians don't want to see Trump in office, that right there is probably the best endorsement he can get. Burn it all down.

So you are considering the game of thrones scenario, where they all kill each other and the white walkers over run us as the wall falls to the ground. So sounds like 3rd party candidate and future President Jon Snow, formerly among the living but now king of the white walkers, and the US. Nuclear winter is coming :D

You really need to think and stop running your mouth you are really sounding like a moron.Because it's an amusing article but we need to throw hate out everywhere and in every thread or the true message is lost? Yeah I was actually thinking of you when I wrote pee wee Herman's name in for the 3rd party candidate of this conspiracy theory. Not my pick though, I still go with Bruce Springsteen as the likely cobal GOP pick.

HOW DOES THE NUCLEAR OPTION COMPARE TO SCORCHED EARTH?

Daywolf

HOW DOES THE NUCLEAR OPTION COMPARE TO SCORCHED EARTH? Question is should I answer your question when you didn't answer mine ;)

Note: I just called it a "conspiracy theory" in my previous post, which is what I recognized of it when I originally read the article which doesn't actually name names etc. If you understood the nature of the beast, or that of the daily beast (where the article originated from) that may be a tell tale sign it could be satire ...then again it could be true, sometimes the nature of a conspiracy theory. The daily beast is certainly an interesting site.

But I'll afford you your question even though you didn't mine. In both cases they are conspiracy theories, whether or not they are one in the same. Though of course "scorched earth" originated with Beck on his network, which I'm sure he has goon er gone into deep rants how it's impeccably true and will happen and you will all suffer, suffer, suffer.

Well if you put it that way, historically it's from the playbook as is called the “The Corrupt Bargain” heh. Well the nickname which was given to it.
There is substance, just we need to name names with this, and I mean people involved.
The Corrupt Bargain 2.0

More recently, analysis by means of game theory mathematics has proposed that, contrary to the assertions of Jackson, his supporters, and countless historians since, the results of the election were consistent with so-called "sincere voting"—that is, those Members of the House of Representatives who were unable to cast votes for their most-favored candidate apparently voted for their second- (or third-) most-favored candidate.[4] This suggests that the result was not a consequence of any "corrupt bargain" between Adams and Clay, but was instead a natural consequence of an electoral field that was fundamentally divided between those who supported Jackson and those who would support anyone other than Jackson. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corrupt_Bargain

hah! Anyone but Jackson!
That's some pretty strong substance there.

But as it looks like, they are still focused on just taking it to a brokered convention for the possible steal. This might resurface again though, if in fact it wasn't just pure satire, and if Donald doesn't slip a bit in the coming weeks/months removing possibilities of a brokered convention.
