New <Tempest> recruit Salaryman ninja-looted a PD robe, declared in his muffled baritone voice, "I have looted the Robe of the Azure Sky. I am a hero!" and clicked out before anyone could stammer, "Kill him!"

He then innocently offered: "You don't have to kick me; I'll still fight for you [in PvP]."

I was shocked and I definitely would have been mad, but a GM responded right away and told us they'd look into it. We awarded a hypothetical robe to a member in case GMs can transfer it.

Salaryman is already suspended, but I'm guessing he was already done with this game, not planning to log in ever againyway. "Greatest game ive ever played" indeed.

Since the moment of shock wore off, I've heard only laughter and - I admit - a sort of head-scratching admiration. This is definitely going to be remembered and I'm sure it will generate lots of references and inside jokes for a while.

This is a terrible decision from GMs. The sanction should have been: Salaryman KOS to the guild he ninja looted. This would have been applauded in Eve. But blablabla alts, fuck that. If he wants to burn 6 lvl 60 toons to get 6 pieces of gear, more power to him.

Personally i would never do that. Its not my style. But thats what makes a sandbox great vs a purple crappy server like red where GMs think they must interfere with every aspect of the game. Like giving this guy his pots bind back, for those who remember that. Id never do something as nasty as that, but its part of a sandbox game.

To me, it's not "a PvP move" to ninja-loot from your own guild. An untagged Salaryman would never have made it into the Peak, let alone to PD's lair to attempt to loot an item. He displayed none of the guts and glory of the Siepher v. Empire ninja-loot.

For me most of my bitching is sort of a post-mortem of the server, because i really gave a shit about it and i wished it went better.

Every heavy-handed things they interfered with and didnt have to, like play sherlock holmes with who stripped who and who deleted who, when they said not to share your fucking account meant less time for GMs to organize free form events that would have added real + value to the server.

Same thing with that GM who manually started to tell people to stop using OOC, i mean what the fuck.

They should have had events organized for them (as in, something free form, not some duel bullshit, or server-wide announced where every twink thats logged on is going to come out of the woodwork) that gave them items that would have given them at least a fighting chance against twinks, to offset the fact that items werent dropped by any events like Halloween 2001 that gave new people a bunch of decent no drop gear.

For me most of my bitching is sort of a post-mortem of the server, because i really gave a shit about it and i wished it went better.

Every heavy-handed things they interfered with and didnt have to, like play sherlock holmes with who stripped who and who deleted who, when they said not to share your fucking account meant less time for GMs to organize free form events that would have added real + value to the server.

Same thing with that GM who manually started to tell people to stop using OOC, i mean what the fuck.

The Guides and GM's have always been good for me. A pretty thankless job and not paid, which means putting up with shit for free.

Although Trades had some good points, they would be far better suited to a production server with paid staff. For volunteer work it is a balance of autonomy and job duties because staff are intrinsically motivated not extrinsic.

It doesnt matter if theyre paid or not really. Its a question of where should GMs invest their energy to maximize the benefits to the server.

To me, playing Sherlock Holmes with who stripped who and policing ninja looting, is a really bad investment of GM time.
