So I was considering trying out Red to see what it'd be like. I thought that the possibility of killing or being killed by a player would be kinda cool. Then I checked out forum for Red99 and realized that I don't have enough self-esteem to get along with those friendly folks. Might just stick to blue.

There are plenty of friendly folks on Red. Look up Thunderdome if you decide to give it a go ^^

Forums and in game are night and day. Considering that 70% of the people dont actually even play on the server. Join thunderdome(they will give you starter money and weapon) and find other people lvlin up. They even do power lvl groups from time to time for free. Also any group will take you because the server has a group bonus for each member in group.
Good luck and give it a shot.

Red is cool if you like soloquest. If you want to play a non solo class outside raids its a waste of time.
Will say mostly the community is ok though. Dont worry about the crazy people on the forums haha.

There is plenty of groupage, you just might need to take the initiative yourself to form up. Pay no attention to the freaks on forums. Don't stress about ooc. Don't get too peeved when you get killed in pvp.

Haha, kk, I'll have to give it a go then! Maybe I'll do 10 levels here, ten levels there, or something like that.

Can someone give a real quick rundown on how the red server works? What about the population levels? Is it a thriving server?

Pretty good summary. I might also add though the Classic is much stronger on red due to the lower availability of gear. You also have the opportunity to experience more content since zones are stuffed full.

If you enjoy social gaming, play Blue.
If you enjoy PvPing with a population that contains a high percentage of enraged nerds, play Red.
If you're hardcore, play both.

100% this.
If you want high inflation and a server near the end of its lifespan in terms of an economy, blue definitely the way to go. You might need to farm 50000 Highkeep guards or something silly to get on the ladder... or make a druid and join Dial A Port (literally be a slave for weeks/months to have full tunnelquest access).
Or if you're the type of player that likes to farm his own gear and the sense of accomplishment that comes with that... much more rewarding on red. Just remember to farm/buy/etc some magic resist (MR) gear for pvp, every little helps.

I'm tempted to play on Red as well. I've always loved PvP, but I HATE being ganked by people much higher level than me... Still debating, haha.

So busy lolling you forget the difference between your skill window and the trainer window and fail to train any of your key class skills!

Can only attack people within a +4 / -4 level range. With the 290% exp modifier for a full group, you can easily outlevel the fully geared out mouth breathers who troll MM and CoM killing Raw-Hide noobs. I play with a Static leveling group and we commonly rock out 5-6 levels per our twice a week scheduled play.
Just roll a caster/priest class at first. First sign of gank attack, hit Gate - Always have Gate on your bars. They will most likely have stacked their Magic Resist outside your ability to hit them.

Hey, if you are playing during GMT hours and are around lvl 20 send Brinkman or Belzambar a tell for grouping :)
