View Full Version : worth coming back?
I use to play and enchanter and loved the class until the POP expansion.
So I was thinking of starting out again on Project 1999.
I am aware that this server has been up for many years so is it wort starting out new and playing if you have no friends that want to play the game?
If so is there a specif class or class i should start with If i want to get with a guild?

I'm a new player as well, only been on the server for about a month, I can tell you most newbie cities have plenty of players to group with and make new friends.
In my short time here, I currently have a 25 necro and a lvl 10 Shaman.

I have found everyone to be very friendly, and yes, it is still just as big of a timesink as it used to be, but to sit and chat with a group of folks again, really brings back those old memories. Many folks, like myself just don't have the time anymore to be very active, but it's still a lot of fun!

You should play what you like.
I think only the most hardcore guilds may have class restrictions. If you want to do extensive raiding there are some classes that are more usefull than others; if not, every class has some merit. Some classes are really wanted in a raid, but their role differs a lot from normal grouping (mage for example). But i don't raid... i find it too boring.

I was fine til EQ Next was cancelled!!
Oh who am I kidding, its true. You can't.
In all seriousness, I've met quite a few nice people in my short time here. I'm still pretty low, but it's been fun!

You will have tons of fun leveling to 60 and will get alot of new friends.
But once you hit 60 and if you want to see high end content, you will start vomitting since the raiding scene atm is very unhealthy, mainly because its so overcrowded. Unless you find fun to be ready to log in any time of day or wait hours at zoneline for boss to spawn. Every boss in NToV for example is pulled to entrance or west exit and if you wish to experience "classic" dungeon crawling through NToV killing dragons, thats not gonna happen on this server until some major changes are made.

This sounds like an outsiders opinion, yes there are a lot of people at the high end because the server has been up for so long but there are pixels to be had and more than just bosses to kill. There are several raid encounters a top tier guild would undertake that require "dungeon crawls" in velious.
Several examples:
10th ring war:
A couple hours worth of clearing wave after wave of giants as they run toward thurgadin...this takes a lot of people working in a coordinated fashion....
Tunare:
She hasn't been killed without first clearing Plane of Growth on this server. ....it takes 7-8 hours for the top guild on the server to clear plane of growth...clearing is overrated....this 8 hours typically nets your guild 2 weapons or a weapon and an essence of nature....The trash drops armor which has equivalent stats to the thurgadin quest armor. The members of any guild capable of killing Tunare do not need this armor for their main characters and it will go to alts...
Halls of Testing (East ToV):
The mini bosses in this wing can be pulled without clearing but the whole point of the Halls of Testing is killing the trash for the quest armor drops. The skyshrine quest pieces are what fills out most visible slots for Velious raiders until they can be replaced piecemeal with drops from big bosses.
There are so many raid targets in this game post Velious that having to clear NToV would be ridiculous...
Also, to the OP, it's 100% worth coming back...

I guess I'm an outsider because I'm not in those 2 or 3 guilds that take this raiding scene to a level of insanity. Done alot kunark raiding and some velious bosses too tho.
But yeah, those few examples doesn't still mean you arent asked to log in at weird hours to kill some dragon or have your char camped at same spot for days because you might need to log in. I heard there is currently about 30ppl at ToV entrance waiting for dragons to pop too. Also heard there was like 150 people waiting for Venril Sathir to spawn the other day for like 5 hours? Sounds super fun way to spend your night.
And for the OP, it sure is worth coming back. You will most likely have alot fun, but don't expect any sanity in the top end raiding scene.

Another new player here. I think it's definitely worth coming back.
I tried going back to live, and even rolled on the Ragefire progression server and neither did it for me. P99 is the only thing that brings back the nostalgia, with its corpse runs at level 1, no compass, no map, no shared bank--everything about it is hardcore.
