Hello there!
I'm Llurendt and I've played many many MMOs (and games of all genres, really). I played a bit of EQ when I was a kid, around the time WC3 was still pretty new and I fell in love. by the time I had a regular job and income to support the habit, it seemed EQ was dead and gone (mostly) and I had moved on to other things. Since then, I've tried EQ Live, but it didn't feel right and the communities were... ghostly, to say the least.
This community looks and feels amazing already and I'd love to become involved, at least to some extent.
To start with, there are SO MANY race and class options that I've no idea where to even begin. I'll be reading through whatever I can find, but I haven't really seen anything like a 'new player guide' floating around the forums... In modern MMOs, I often play a healer or DPS, though I'm not sure if those terms even really apply in the same way to EQ. Any help is greatly appreciated!

So far, I've made a halfling cleric (who I'll be playing with my SO, the halfling Monk once the IP exemption goes through) and a human Druid out of Qeynos. Really enjoying the Druid so far, though I'm only just now finding doable quests, haha. Lots of delivery quests and far fewer killing quests that I can find. :D
I'm absolutely finding the nostalgia, though!

Lower levels are way harsher than when you level up and get some more tools in your bag - stay the course my friend!
Also halflings can't be monks, sorry to burst your bubble.

Whoops! I forgot about that... she made a rogue instead of a monk since we wanted to start together, haha.
Yeah, I've died a couple times, but I'm still enjoying myself. :D Currently playing on Blue, but seriously considering going to Red... I've always enjoyed PvP servers as humans are always more difficult opponents than computers.
Thanks for the welcome!

Should also note that quests aren't what gives the most xp. Grinding mobs is more rewarding.

Aah, good to know! It seems the item rewards can be important, though. :D The wolf pelt quest in the Qeynos Hills was very useful for my Druid!

Best thing to do is try a few classes out and see what you think!

Agreed, I started a week ago and was a cleric. Got the cleric to level 10, then decided on a shaman and now the shaman is lvl 9 already and I found I enjoy that class more :)

I'm really liking my druid so far... I think the only thing that might be better would be a pet class and that's just a maybe. :D

I was torn between bard, druid, and shaman. I still Iove the druid kiting and ports. A definite plus!

I'm thinking my next character might be a mage. The pets plus offensive damage sounds fun. :D

Add my shaman in game as a friend, never know when you'll need a SoW lol. Shamanana. My girl is waiting on the exemption approval to be able to play as well.

Ya, especially at very early levels, mage pets are stronger than even a twinked melee character. Mages are especially great with a partner, because the pet will eat half your xp if you are solo, and it outdamages you (which it will almost always).
Also, A pet is completely expendable, a melee PC is not =) So, you don't really even have to heal it. Just making a new one is usually more efficient. Mage+any healer/caster/bard maybe, is a great combo to start fresh with.
You can also go Mage/melee, but the melee has to Joust probably (use a slower weapon and jump in and out between mob melee rounds)

Thanks for the advice, Lemonhead! I'll probably start the mage when the IP thing goes through and I start a character with my SO. :D
I'll go ahead and add you Subidoo!

Awesome, what level is your druid?

Only 4, haha. I've not had a lot of free time to devote in the last week or so... I'm now sitting on the moving bridge waiting to go back to the boat to Qeynos after a misadventure. :P (I had mis-read that this was the way to get to Feydark, but obviously I was wrong, haha)

Lol, did that when I was trying to get to EC. Died like 4 times, got lucky and a high lvl bard was bored and ran me there faster than anything.

I'm gonna try and get to 8 first so I can rebind before I go on any long journeys... >.>

Smart idea, that way you don't lose a level.
