Howdy folks! I'm a player who started on Day-1 and played for 3 years. I never made it to the end-game because I spent most of my time exploring and questing.
So I am psyched to come back to Classic EQ but I hit a wall. I cannot get a unique name on Blue. I tried a bunch of names (~15-20) and they were all rejected (Nothing rude or inappropriate, presumably they are all taken). I was curious if this is a known problem. I saw the post about Blue passing 1,000,000 characters created and am wondering if there is some already announced strategy that the devs are employing to deal with the possibility that the list of names that can be easily spoken/spelled may be dwindling? If there is one I cannot find it.
Obviously I can create a character with a unique name it is just that I am not sure I want to resort to something like Flrynykbdllwyhn in order to play. =)

I was actually surprised I got my name Drewbee, despite going for Drewbie (Drew would have been impossible). You might want to consider making slight spelling alterations while maintaining the phonetic. Obviously you don't want it to get out of hand, but I assure you there is a satisfying combination of letters out there that'll get you close to where you want to be. :)
I tend to hit the random name generator and then edit down whatever I get. Other times I'll use a real world name that's very unusual.
The name generator is actually pretty good once you get past the silly Tolkein elvish names like Flynwel or Llylianeli or whatever it spits out. I know someone who accidentally got Aztec names using that thing, pretty funny.

Didn't Live start out with a zealous must-be-fantasy-type-name policy?
I miss those days.

Some possibilities: Aerelon, Keelie, Harvin, Praelin, Jeremis, Hraethin... I usually like to take current names and see how I can mutate them to sound a bit more exotic and I rarely run into problems. I also often take names from book characters and play with those as they're usually already pretty unknown.
Good luck!

Despite the age of this server I think names are still far more available than there were on live servers at the start of velious....This might be because live name filter was far more strict....26^5 is more than 11 million. I know you probably need some vowels in there to pass the name filter but I figure there are plenty of permutations left...However, most common nouns (proper and otherwise), verbs and adjectives are probably sitting on accounts attached to level 1 characters....
