According to AolNews.com, NASA reports that this is the first time an eclipse has coincided with a solstice since December 21, 1638, and the next one won't come around again until 2094. (http://www.aolnews.com/2010/12/19/lunar-eclipse-december-2010-falls-on-winter-solstice/)

It was a really awesome eclipse. Sorry for those who missed it - you fail on celestial matters.

Clearly it's a coutdown, 362 years since the last one, 84 for the next?

At that rate, we'll all be dead by the time it matters.

Well, it could be BS, but at the same time it probably doesn't matter. I mean, from year to year the surface of the moon doesn't really change and if you have seen one giant earth-shadow you have probably seen them all.

At least the one I posted doesn't cut off too soon. I hate when I don't get to finish watching my shadows fading!

Touche!

But then, why even have this thread if all lunar eclipses are the same? This event has been happening for millions of years. :D

I was just grumpy cause I hate youtube hoaxes.

Us amateur astronomers had nothing to fix our telescopes on other than the pagans skinny dipping in the flood waters due to our heavy storm. Fair trade off :o

I set my alarm. There wasn't a cloud in the sky. My eyes were a bit blurry from sleep, but worth waking up to see.
