Maps are disabled. How do I find the places I need to go? I just started in Neriak, I have no idea where my first quest is, etc. Its been a long time since I played, I just don't remember.
Thanks...
If this was answered, feel free to direct me to the thread.

This is classic there is no maps, use your eyes and hail people for directions. But if you want to cheat the wiki is great.

Make certain to train 1 pt into your sense heading skill and work it up! It'll be your best friend.

Bind sense heading to all directional movement keys, train at least one point, and get good at using /loc.

The Kunark manual had some nice town maps.

I had trouble with this early in my arrival to the West. I resolved to attempt to orient my self and check my location every time I turned left to take the thought out of it and mastered the skill in no time. As others have indicated the Extra-Norrathian "Wiki" is a great repository of information amassed from adventurers since the beginning of time.

What you want to do is click on different mobs and con them and the first mob that cons red, you go up and ask it for directions.

I learned landmarks, memorable building layouts or even mob spawns.
Anything that you can remember to give you a sense of direction.
Also Sense Heading + /loc is a god sent. you can line up your /loc on a map on the wiki to get a really close idea of where you are.
I have almost every zone memorized,.. unless it is raining and super foggy. you'll still get turned around from time to time.

Lol at calling a map cheating. Is it cheating to use a map in real life too?

There were no maps IRL until the cartographer patch. Not classic.

If RL were a game then yes a map would be cheating, luckily it's not and someone was smart enough to make maps, shit even in RL maps are a bitch to navigate.

I'll agree with the people that suggest landmarks and getting a feel for the zone..that seems to work best for me, and sense heading skill really comes in handy, or if you are a caster true north has it usefulness too, but then again I am a noob by typical standards.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but weapons dropped on the ground always point north afaik.

This will always be one of the great mysteries of Norrath. The same is true in my homeland as it is in Antonica, Faydwer & Odus.

I remember back in the classic EQ days before any maps were available in game. I had a binder that I had printed out with maps and other valuable EQ stuff to have on hand. Was bordering a bit on insane. lol.
Print this out , it has zones from eras past Velious but that`s not a problem. For traveling from zone to zone /loc is by far the fastest way to get where you need to be.

I think you are assuming that you need to find quest after quest in order to progress, as it is in a lot of other MMOs. That's not the case here. You can get to level 60 without doing a single quest. Quests are purely optional and are not served on a silver plate. You have to either check wiki or just talk to NPCs in order to get them.
