What's average server pop during peak? during low pop times? All I see on the daybreak website is a bar comparing to other DB servers. Phini is the highest, but I'm looking for numbers. When I get home from work and want to play for 2-4 hours or whatever, will there be people to play with? P99 is currently in the 400-600 people range when I'm playing, which so far has been ok.

Shadowknight and Paladin are incredible in PoP and later expansions even more.

Especially once they get gear with mana pres and FT on it to sustain their spell casting with self healing spells $$$.

Krono only drop off of Kelethin Priest of Discord, he spawns once every 2 hrs so hes poopsocked hard for his FTE. There is an FTE message but its not policed so bring 6 wizards and beat everyone else.

LiS and Emperor each can be killed exclusively with pet and spell DPS. LiS even easier with charmed pets.

I'd focus way more on those AAs and VT shards!

I'd suspect that most guilds are super light on caster DPS, because casters can't solo you don't see too many of them. Also, raid mobs still have Mitigation of the Mighty and Mark of the Old Ways to contend with so I don't think it's viable to just rely on casters/pets.

The good thing though is that there's picks of zones (so you'll see like 10 instances of ssra) and higher drop rates for stuff like VT key pieces and things of that nature. It won't be that bad.

I remember bane weapons being a major time sink. Worse than the shards. I would wager, only worthwhile to get a few select chars bane items at first.

Personally, I think it would be an interesting thing to go straight for an emp attempt asap. Strats so well known, can likely be done with a well-rounded raid force with velious gear alone.

Then VT changes everyone's gear profile. Fast.

The pixel-cluster that you're referring to I've yet to figure out how to resolve. Had that issue since 2012 on Al'Kabor. I can imagine it would be absolutely horrible on a melee toon but its not too bad on a caster though since you aren't up close with tons of people.

For sure EQ group content isn't super hard, but I think maybe you've spent a bit too much time on Project 1999.

Upper guk with a 6-man group in banded and fine steel longswords doesn't feel as trivial. Or Seb Chef/Bar with a group of L55ish, 21% haste, half the kunark spells missing, etc.

20k DD procs on the tank every 2 minutes force tank swaps, you can eat the first with DA.
The majority of the room has a mana drain aura, I believe we put casters on the stairs behind Shei? There may be a better place to avoid the mana drain.
Every death spawns a random add with the same attributes as above. Don't Zerg and die lots.


If this fight were introduced to P99 right now every guild would wipe because Offtanking and mez CC isn't even a thing.

Raid content like described above where you actually need a real strategy and some prep, you can't just pull it to entrance or zoneline with some gimmick.
Raid content that takes a 20-30minute to down, so guilds actually have to pick and choose their targets rather than trying to cover it all.
Raid content that doesn't need a 24/7 tracker just a spot checker to find out if it's up and then mobilize.
Tradeskills are useful for Earring of Solstice quest and upgraded BD Cultural
Spell Focus Effects come into game and casters actually have a reason to gear.

I'd rather sit on my 7th warrior alt and do out of the way quests for 2nd best gear that I know won't be totally useless in 3 months when the next expansion rolls around. Right now i'm casually leveling my ranger, he's got a bunch of quested gear and I just need a small raid force to finish up Garzikor for my monk. All these are unique quests I never got to do on live because the expansions were released in such rapid succession that they were never worth doing.

I imagine getting all of the relevant AAs before Planes of Power will require a good bit of grinding. Combined with more and more challenging raid content and it starts to sound like a serious workload.

But come Luclin the environment stops being the huge challenge and that challenge gets put into the individual raid mobs. Especially in the case of scripted events like Shei, Emperor, High Priest, Thought Horror Overfiend, etc.

Emperor and High Priest are another two sets of fights that have a mix of adds that require some be mezzed and some be held off tanked otherwise they respawn quickly. High Priest is the only event I can think of other than Agnarr in BoT where the Disintegration line of spells actually had a use.

Man I remember on live when Luclin launched (I played on TZ) our guild found an exploit in Katta Castellum. There was a small ridge you could pull mobs to and PBAE them, but they couldn't hit you. They'd just perpetually run into the wall. Needless to say we exploited a fuckton of AAs til one night all 30 of us starting dying one by one. Turns out a GM was us, DTed us all, and informed us that if we were ever seen doing it again wed be permabanned no questions asked. Lol.

The once POP opened you had a massive resurgence of AE groups mainly in the planes of nightmare and fire. You'd cast a high level slow on a Warrior with max weapon affinity (increased procreate) AAs who was wielding an Earthshakers. With the he slow and AAs you'd process basically every attack and just level massive waves of mobs.

AAs filled in extremely fast using this strategy....especially once you were ele. flagged and AEing po fire.

Ya there's some folks that took time off work and/or haven't slept with 50+ AAs already. I grinded AAs for like 2 hours on Wednedsay and another 5 on Thursday which netted like 15AAs. Min/Max grind style can get you 3-4 an hour but like Oleris said people wanted to get into Luclin so exp is a touch slower. You can VT shard farm, get some spells, and get AAs in Luclin so it's win/win.

I've already capped out my crits, probably going for ambi next. I'll come back for the survivability crap.

Thinking about this more, this isn't surprising at all. After all, the raid targets needed all these Mighty bonuses to make up for the nonclassic game mechanics engine. Logically, if the normal content doesn't get those bonuses then you'll just steamroll it.

I'm glad I didn't seriously try Phinny. Raiding is OK, but group content is the best part of EQ IMO (not surprising, as it was intended as a group game originally). When I see people doing Upper Guk at L15 with 1500 HP and hitting for 100 with a 5 damage weapon, that's just pretty sad.

Surviving a fight isn't an issue, neither is pulling. Coming into Luclin with some sick Velious gear means I don't need to augment my mitigation with those AAs. The biggest difference a person can make to a raid is shortening the raid. Killing shit faster will be paramount.

We play this game for the nostalgia. It's impossible to recreate pure EQ for so many reasons thatve been stated across the boards. In summary, it's 2016, we all have 20-200+ Mbps, all data and all quests are documented, were no longer 14, etc. I don't play on Phinny, but the compromise looks pretty damn fun, and I like to hear about it. Eq progression is fun, socking and competition is fun for a period of time then it just becomes stressful and tiresome. Instancing looks like it's been a great addition.

So what's the state of Maiden's Eye right now? Cause that is probably the biggest bottleneck shard being that only 5 named in the zone drop it.

We used to have bards kite the entire zone and reverse charm kill the PHers and named, was super easy to farm it that way but if there's a group on each spawn that would be hell.

Weapon ornaments are fashion mandatory only because Nature's Melody looks stupid without. Weapon augments only cost 500pp. The ornaments were like 2-3 bucks, no sweat.

Basically there is a solo Tree camp and the 4 named rock camp for ME shards right now. I was at the solo Goranga Seer tree for 3 hours last night with no spawns. AoE kiting + charm is the best method for me solo. I can literally kill 30-40 goranga without any downtime.

ME is the biggest bottleneck so far, BDA starts raiding Luclin next week.
