I have more P99 pixels than you do and they are still there for me every time I feel like logging on.

Some of us just aren't obsessively focused on one underpopulated server on a niche emulation project. Not really sure how long I'll play Phinigel but it's not like that is all I'm playing. Some days I don't play ANY EQ (emulated or otherwise) and play other videogames or none at all! :eek:

Swish's time frame is off. PoP may be the last expansion that is highly regarded by people in general remembering EQ, but for raiders it will go until OoW at least. Only after the release of DoN will population in the raiding sector start dropping. Before that, some guilds will be noticing the applicant pool getting smaller, and after that the less successful and less dedicated guilds will start seeing problems getting the numbers to get stuff done. The top end will probably be able to cannibalize people leaving those guilds for a LONG time, maybe an entire year, even more for the top one or two. The server in general will be a small fraction of the size by then, but the guilds at the top will endure for much longer. Even Fippy still has one guild going after all.

Those people who want to play PoP and earlier EQ will just jump to the new server when it releases in the summer. I can tell you one thing - they won't come here. The amount of people who have tried P99 and left is insane, every group seems to have a few expats who left for all sorts of reasons and others who simply never wanted to bother with emulation.

It's a possibility more people should consider - Sirken leaves the endgame as awful as possible simply because if it was actually any good, the server wouldn't be able to handle the number of people who would play it.

How did IVAS and Entendre spend 6 hours wiping to Rathe Council, we missed our 1st kill because the last mob was at 30% when our first Council member repoped, 2nd Attempt we pooped on it.

IVAS didn't spend 6 hours wiping. We started our night with xegony, cornaiv, and fennin, then moved onto PoE, when we got to the point of doing PoEb we were on a flagging high and figured we'd just steamroll it. By the time we were at the council drop down it was already 1am, people were losing focus, was 2am by the time we had everything setup an were ready to kill. Then things went to shit, people had to sleep for work the next day, so on and so forth.

So there was one wipe, not 6 hours of them on our part. Sucked about the lockout though. On the bright side, it will take one more week before we're saying "ugh, time again" I suppose.

Not true. We raided 3 days tops. Would have been less if we hadn't lost our Bert instance on server crash. We finished time after an all nighter Sunday morning. We skipped Sunday's normal raids and didn't do anything til we started backflagging Wednesday.

It being an old game or a game with lower skill ceiling than some others doesn't automatically make everyone that plays it equally good at it. Even if you like to think it does.

Your comment I quoted is true only in those games which use levels, experience, or other features that improve character power but are locked behind timesinks. Such features are particularly common in player-vs-environment games, but (disgustingly) increasingly appear in player-vs-player games as well.

Back when I subscribed to MMO-flightsims, there were no such power-increasing features. The same used to be true in most shooter type games. A fresh newbie had access to everything a multi-year veteran had. The folks who won were the folks who were good. That's as it should be. This is also why players who flew (or ran, in shooters) around in big gaggles used to be laughed at: They had to hide in the horde because they sucked too badly to do anything on their own. If you were good enough, you could engage 1 vs 3, 1 vs 5, or 1 vs 10 and expect to win. Again--as it should be. Artificial experience levels and phony random number-based combat destroy real competition.

I assume the timesink-based power increases appear in modern player-vs-player games so as to give bad players a chance of winning now and then. 15 or 20 years ago it was common for bad players to remain little more than helpless cannon fodder even 6 months or a year after they started the game; it tended to harm the subscriber retention rate of such games because there are more bad or mediocre players than good ones. I made it through another chunk of my quest last night ^^ I am up to level 30 I think and while the quest itself a bit boring, I am REALLY enjoying every bit of the game. I unlocked a new dungeon actually the night before last and it was super fun :3 I attended another wedding last night as well and got engaged too! It won't. Sometimes people forget just how far things have advanced in fifteen years, or how much change there is. It's not just the turbopowered casters and much higher strength abilities across the board. Simple things like much more reliable internet in your cheal chains and widespread knowledge of "what happens when I do THIS". Even the attitudes are better.

It's not just Phinny either, don't anyone kid themselves. Nothing, literally nothing on p99 or any other server staying close to classic, takes any kind of effort. The only things that create any kind of difficulty at all is when there is some kind of external pressure being applied... such as another guild approaching to take the kill away (or if horribly unclassic mechanics are at work, right Sont?). Had the zone survived the pressure it was under AoW would have died day one Velious. The only reason Tunare lasted as long as she did was the gross amount of time it takes to clear for her.

These places are ALL cheap. If you weren't there 1999-2002, you don't know how much things have changed.
