View Full Version : Best Melee Weapons Per Class - End Game Velious

I'm not sure if there's another thread somewhere, but I couldn't find one. I'm curious to know what people consider the top end-game weapons on the server per melee class. Since I play a ranger my list would probably consist of the following weapons :

Tolan's Longsword of the Glade (Vulak)

Claw of Lightning (Eashen)

I made the above list based on overall ratios and procs. Kreizenn's flame is great, but it's not BIS as Baton of Flame has a better ratio than this sword with the same proc. I realize ratio isn't everything, and for rangers procs can be detrimental so weapons like Baton, Braid and Sap Branch may not be the best options, which is why I listed all the above weapons as alternatives. I'm not sure what my preferable combo would be, but the fastest ratio combo would be Baton of Flame + Claw of Lightning.

For a rogue I'd probably say Massive Heartwood Thorn + Claw of Lightning is best combo. I don't know about each class, but the more info the better! Be cool to see people's opinions for each class.

Bard = Nature's Melody + Epic.
I believe epic would be switched to offhand if the patch is implemented that allows the instrument modifier to be in effect when the epic is in the offhand.

Baton / Swiftwind BIS imo for ranger. Claw would be really good too, but I like +30 ATK alot.

I have no idea why Cecily said Swiftwind, but she is right about the Baton of Flame. I think the other good one would be Claw of Lightning or Braid of Golden Hair. The best for solo would be Tolan's Longsword of the Glade -- but the previous two are better in raids. This is the ideal set-up:

Baton of Flame / Claw of Lightning.--->For heavy resist fights

Baton of Flame / Braid of Golden Hair.--->For low-medium resist fights

Baton of Flame / Tolan's Longsword of the Glade.--->For solo

And probably a Primal for Avatar.

Yeah.. I'd just pick one good setup. Using weapons as stat sticks is silly. Why god made armor slots. And as to why, I said +30 atk. Enhances damage for both weapons. And if that doesn't translate to better damage, it translates to a hell of a lot easier to obtain for almost as good.

Honestly.. compared to claw, tolan's is terrible ratiowise. Baton/Claw 100% in any situation not involving a DS, if you're willing to forgo +atk.

Primal is huge. I would say it's 50% of the upgrade of Velious, the other half being improved weapon ratios.

But when every guild on the server brings 100+ raiders armed with massive clickies to encounters designed for 40 . . . . does it really matter?

I do, the only time I log on now is to say hi to people and go to low level zones and one shot those dam skellys with my rod of uberness and patiently wait till wizard BotB comes back and I own it

Coming from a PvP server, I agree with the no potion and all stuff for BotB, but as far as gear goes, it's open game and should always be that way, that's why it's called BotB

Yeah my whole strat in rogue BotB involved shooting people with my bow of the underfoot and high dmg arrows. Dumped all my training points into archery and was informed on the day of by Ambrotos that bows weren't allowed. Instead I got a guy from Red, who I almost killed with a nasty poison, and died first round :D

I don't agree with that, all strats/gear should be useable per any class anyway they see fit. I do agree with the no consumables. Gear wise tho...it's BotB if I took the time to level melee as a caster and happened to have an item that most won't have anymore...well that's why it's called BotB

What you agree with or not is different from what the original rules sets included.

Not all of them were followed here and random rules were made the day of, if not mid-fight in some of the "botb" on P99.

The Test of Tactics I, II, and III each had their own rules sets. Some allowed for anything goes - soulfires, reapers, AoNs, potions, others prohibited clickies and illusions.

It seems that you have failed to respond to any comments by the wizard community dealing with the absurd rules that you have proposed for the Wizard Tourney. Is this just disdain for the estate of the wizards, or contempt that we actually care about the skill of our class?

To carry forward the questions asked in the rules listing thread:

Why a "shootout" test? What tactics are there in seeing who has the fastest link to the internet? If spell selection and resist gear is all that is being tested then how can you say this is the Best of the Best?
Why no melee? Isnt this a bit biased considering the number of wizards stating that they maintained their melee skills?
Why no meeting to discuss the rules as happened for the other BoB tourneys?
Seems a bit arbitrary to impose this on the wizard community. Those seem to be the three big questions that you have failed to respond to. The question of clickable items has its defenders based on the abuses in the prior BoB. I dont like it but will conceed it as it _MAY_ unbalance a tactical test. It would be nice if you would be responsive to the wizards who will fight and die for your entertainment.

The wizards are the master of Direct Damage, and doing it very fast. A shoot out style duel tests not only the skills and choices to be used by a wizard, but the situational response as well from the wizard.

This has little to do with connection speed since it is a completely spell casted event. If this were a melee event with players moving, the connection would play a far greater role.
This is a primary casters event. We don't want to see this event turning into the wizard with a GBS and a book fleeing from a wizard with a rod of annihlation for 45 minutes.
If there is a question of what the event should be, then we turn to the players. Verant has numerous GMs and Staff who play wizards, and there knowledge stated that it should be a shoot out duel.

I'm not here to debate what they did back in 2000. They also didn't have FTE's to zonelines, TL boxes, gate to secure FTE's, yada yada back in 2000....lets not open that book.

BFG primary + Double Damage Stationary Mob + Trueshot Disc = Victory.

Palladius or tunare for 2h and frostwrath/vyemm hammer for 1h

Emerald Bastard Sword of Purity is paladin BIS.

40 AC in primary is delicious on top of a 55 AC shield. Extra awesome.

I think the OP has a War Bow of Rallos Zek (http://wiki.project1999.com/War_Bow_of_Rallos_Zek) . That with a Primal would prob be BiS.
