View Full Version : Question: Velks Lab

I just had a few quick questions regarding Velks. I'm not very familiar at all with the innards of the zone, so I've started to explore deeper. Last night, I was playing around the castle area, and was up near the front (?) entrance of it, invis and horsing around waving to some friends up at frenzy. Being unfamiliar with the area, I was obviously conning everything looking for see invis. I started to walk to the right of the entrance area and my invis just dropped without warning. I took a swift dirtnap after that.

My question is, was this a dispel trap? I cannot find it marked on any maps.. Do you get any indication in the log of when you trip a trap? Finally, since I want to go back and explore more, are there any other obvious places or things I should keep an eye out for to save the corpse summon+EE res?

Thanks a bunch!

In PoM the dispell trap looks like this:

dispell begins to cast a spell.
Tadhg feels very dispelled.

(cue 3-4 buffs being stripped away)

Some of the spiders definitely see invis, a certain name type... or did you hit a floor trap?

This is kind of what I don't understand. I had conned these sentinels already and was just kind of inching my way around the right side of the castle, still right by the front entrance.

Log:
[Mon Jun 06 05:32:23 2016] a crystal sentinel regards you indifferently -- he appears to be quite formidable.
[Mon Jun 06 05:32:23 2016] You think you are heading SouthWest.
[Mon Jun 06 05:32:26 2016] You think you are heading SouthWest.
[Mon Jun 06 05:32:28 2016] a crystal destroyer says, 'All outlanders must be cleansed. So is the will of Velketor!'
[Mon Jun 06 05:32:28 2016] a crystal sentinel says, 'All outlanders must be cleansed. So is the will of Velketor!'
[Mon Jun 06 05:32:28 2016] Your shadows fade.
[Mon Jun 06 05:32:28 2016] A crystal sentinel kicks YOU for 42 points of damage.
[Mon Jun 06 05:32:28 2016] A crystal sentinel hits YOU for 112 points of damage.
[Mon Jun 06 05:32:28 2016] A crystal sentinel hits YOU for 175 points of damage.

So I get aggro somehow (I had conned all of the sentinels already, and am still invis), and my invis drops before I even get hit. I'm just trying to understand what happened so I can make corrections on my next explore trip tonight.

Looking at the time stamp, looks like that all happened within a second. Sometimes if it's close enough in time, the chat will display events in the wrong order. It's not unheard of for buffs to drop without warning.

If it happens again in the same spot then there's something weird going on.

IIRC in Velks there is a trap just outside the castle under the stone overhang.

"a crystal destroyer" all see invis from what I remember. You conned "sentinels" but not them I assume?

That is also the name of the mob that agros you first:
"a crystal destroyer says, 'All outlanders must be cleansed. So is the will of Velketor!'"

Did you have see invis up? Maybe you got attacked by a ninja...

That's actually very plausible. I checked my log file for evidence that I had considered 'a crystal destroyer' and had not! I guess very large aggro radius.. I couldn't figure out what had happened because I have not had an instance before where invis dropped without warning, then when I went to the log file it was showing my invis dropping before I even got hit. As someone said above, with everything happening the same second, it may not have been logged correctly.

I'm going to close the case on the matter and try to get there in a little while to confirm that destroyers see invis, and if so, the wiki entry may need to be changed to reflect see invis ability.

Thanks guys for taking a look and helping to clear up the matter.

In your adventures, you might want to keep an eye out for "an icy watcher" as well. They are the highest level gargs and I believe they also see invis.

But destroyers, the highest level golems, definitely do. I remember trying to get into the CY with a full pop of 5-6 destroyers...nightmare for a newish monk.

When up by the castle, the "dispell trap" is right in front of the door to the castle. (The door you have to click to open, which is close to where you come out after going through upper dogs). So give that area a wide berth.

Likely the dispell trap..

If you're a rogue though, make sure to /con mobs for see invis when they are facing you. If you're sneak/hiding, they might see invis but still /con indifferent since you're sneaking behind. Then you (or them) turn and wham, they aggro since sneak doesn't change faction to indif any longer.
