I'm down.

Foxx -- I purchased the D2 and D2 expansion pack CD codes from an online store for like $5 each. The site is now non existent (the codes worked just fine), I'm sure a quick Google search will find you a new CD key store.

Then I just used Alcohol 52% to emulate the CD's via a torrent, and bam, no CD's no problems.

Alright, just logged into new battle.net (also which I had not loaded up for at least 1, maybe 2 years)
Looks like they are now selling D2 and the expansion, 10 bucks a piece. I'll assume it is now a digital copy and the key codes come with the purchase.
Is that the version you are playing?

Google how to play in windowed, it is much better to play it in 800x600 via a window on your desktop.

If ya wanna play with us tonight, get your toon to level 10-ish and get to the last quest, we have the outer cloister waypoint.

Ladder is where it's at. I agree that at this point it's tough to stay interested in Diablo for too long, but some of the most fun you can have playing D2 is making trades early into a ladder season. When nobody has any gear and everyone is leveling up and working on survivability, the stuff you find in the game carries significant value. Add to this the fact that they eliminated a fair amount of the botting and most of the hacks, and it makes it even more interesting. Even if you want to quit soon, you can just bank up some forum gold to make things a little easier in the next ladder. You should try it.

It's been years since I've played this. Don't know where my disks are. I've moved on to Path Of Exile which satisfies that Diablo 2 itch even more than Diablo 2 did

I never liked how your characters were deleted from battle.net if you didn't play them, so I stopped playing online.

I don't see a reason to play D2 at this point with Path of Exile out really.

Nostalgia? Better voice acting and voiceovers? Better atmosphere in D2 despite dated graphics? Music? Great item system?

Although we have been playing in private games only, I've noticed that there is a *lot* of public games, specifically public games to actually walk the game (not trist runs, cow levels, rush games, etc.)

Looks like they reset the ladder in May. That would explain it.

Warms my heart to know they still paying attention to this classic.

Yeah how come this guy bigged up Diablo 3? I don't see many people speaking highly of it in these D2 threads despite RoS patch allegedly being "The D2 patch"....

Real money auction house still in game? that was disgusting.

I am guessing I didn't miss out on much after I quit in the first act of D3.

Diablo 3 just makes you feel bad ass.

Also does a great job of making you feel rewarded with all the not-so-rare color tiered loot. Got boring though before too long :/ not sure why?

It's not, at all. It may (subjectively) look better than Diablo 2, that's it.

Path Of Exile is arguably better than D2 but that's because it's spiritually it's sequel. Diablo 3 is D2's sequel in name, PoE is D2's sequel in spirit. You have to play PoE to understand.

I played the Diablo 3 beta and have seen some gameplay footage. Wasn't at all impressed when I played it. In my opinion it wasn't even worthy of being called "Diablo". Yeah it was just the beta but I knew the game would ultimately be a disappointment to true Diablo 2 (and Diablo 1) fans.

Yeah I quit D3 early. Since we have the same opinion on D2 care you share your opinion on D3's soundtrack as well?

I'm not familiar enough with Diablo 3 to comment on it's soundtrack. It's possible it's similar in epicness to D2's but I highly doubt it's better. No game's soundtrack is better.

In my opinion this track right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=layjWs2IpS4 is the single greatest video game track ever composed, and that's saying a lot because a lot of D2's tracks are epic. But Harrogath goes above and beyond. It would fit in an epic blockbuster movie.

Liegezen

D3 is garbage unless you're just messing around with some buds on console or something. Great party game, but sucks long term.

D2 gets tedious, but the ladder resets are the only reason i still enjoy playing. It's been getting a lot of love lately. Spam bots aren't nearly as bad, but bots themselves still running strong, for now at least. Duping is not nearly as bad as it used to be, but of course it's always going to be there. Hell, D3 had dupes, hence why the RMAH was so fudged up.

overall, D2 is always fun to come back and play a bit for the ladder reset.

Blizzard is responsible for creating some excellent games. Although in turn they have also ruined some great games, you can't just write off the whole company. Just like Sony.

Absolutely right about that. As D3 was made with no talent or soul, I'd guess not.

Listened to the soundtrack a few times, the strings in "rogue" are amazing. Wherever there is strings work really, esp the guitar work.
