So I went to EQmac.com and noticed that it is now redirecting to project1999.com
Just wondering why and for what reasons? Seems misleading.
Doesn't p99 have a big enough player base already?
Aren't there 2 EQmac style private servers already with actual AK/EQmac players @
http://www.takproject.net
and
http://p2002.com
I'm pretty sure if old AK players wanted to come back and play EQ they would want it to be with other old AK/EQmac people on one of the above servers. Plus P99 is a pain to get going on a mac anyways. :D

Rogean put TAKProject on the Legends server list to advertise it, even though you can't access it on this client. Also helped with hosting think? Other P99 nerdlings(Haynar, Secrets) have helped with the dev work too.

Well a ~few months back, the domain was up for renewal and the owner offered to transfer it as was written at the site. Rogean was informed and I think one of the two server admins interested in taking the domain. So I guess Rogean got it, which makes sense as p99 has been up for years, a show of commitment.

Rogean did not put takp on legends list.
Getting takp on the server list at all was figured out by Speedz.
Hosting of takp is done by Akkadius.
Eqmac.com expired. So the previous owner reached out to ppl to take it over.
I don't know if there is additional discussion on what to do with eqmac.com. Pointing it to takp would be cool.
I know someone was looking at pointing it to a wiki. But i guess they didnt contact owner, or convince them to transfer it.

The famed EQ live mac server site. Mac got locked at PoP, SOE ran it for years. For a time even free. Then they shut it down a few years back. The site retained all the servers forums and stuff, but was taken down some time ago.

while a good idea, why was it locked at PoP?

I am betting it had to do with continuing development costs, with maintaining two seperate branches.
A lot happened during/after PoP like increasing max item id's to start using 32 bits instead of 16. Moving to dx9. So there were some major overhauls needed to the client too.
Short version: cost to maintain a single server and the mac client. Its costly to keep doing updates.

ah. so sony gave that server its own site. good snag then for p99

eqmac.com was a fan site that is directly dedicated to the only official SOE Everquest Mac Server. It was not affliated with SOE.

Daeldaen would know more but iirc the mac launch sold so poorly development was immediately cut. a lot of PoP was still in PoP beta form when it closed, Quarm stun for example.

ah. so sony gave that server its own site. good snag then for p99Yeah it wasn't exactly owned by SOE, but it was the unofficial official community site specific for the mac server. If you played on the server, likely you used this community website. Here is a (https://web.archive.org/web/20040622073454/http://eqmac.com/) waybackmachine archived example.

I'm still trying to get a copy of the previous eqmac.com forums to host up, but it's waiting on Nikolai. Since it was pointing to a dead IP I forwarded it here until we get that database.

That's cool Rogean. Didn't mean to jump to conclusions just seemed really odd it would point here.

I played there for about a year. Was a really fun server. Lots of good people.
I remember there was a Ranger with every classes epic which was cool. He apparently also played an instrument in the symphony that recorded some of the EQ Music.

Nikolai doesn't have any easy way to scrub the database of personal information and PMs, so he won't release the database until that is done. He recently posted, so he is around but I don't see him really having much motivation to manually strip all the personal data from the database. I can't really blame him there.
I could see him possibly handing it off to someone he trusts to scrub it for him before releasing it... But I think he would probably only consider doing that for an oldschool Destiny/Temerity/Pathfinders member he knows, of which there are very few if any who are interested in doing this.

Restoring and putting up an archive of the eqmac forums is way more important than where eqmac.com points.
It was always takp's goal to get a copy of those forums up. Noone imagined the domain would be avail too.
So the end goal is the same. Preserve the eqmac.com website and forums. End of discussion really.

Most def no smoke no fire.
Among all the web toys I have developed for TAKP I decided to change our front entry page to a eqmac.com clone look.
Should Rogean successfully get the forum data and host it, then I will point that forum link to it from within our front page. As Haynar said, its the data, not where it is hosted.
Torven said elsewhere that there is alot of overlap between TAKP, EQEmu, p99 and PEQ. With that overlap, there is friendships among staff and there is staff that works on more than one. P99 is far more aged and has plenty of notoriety to support a decision on Nik's part to release any data to Rogean. If he never does, well that won't kill any mac server development. It won't harm any friendships that are already established. It most certainly won't deter players that have come to get used to the tools and toys that I have released for TAKP.
In closing, eqmac.com is Rogean's, no bad feelings ever existed nor will it over this. It is not even a thought. Play on, get some pixels where ever you find the most fun to do so.
