I managed to watch the whole stream and even got some of my questions answered by Kilsin, who was hanging out chatting with the up to 1000 viewers during the broadcast. Kilsin currently my favorite dev right now. He trained everyone on stream and got DTed, it was great.

Important points mentioned:

- The death penalty will be somewhere between Vanguard and vanilla EQ, but nothing has been developed just yet. There WILL be CRs and they are going to make places dangerous.

- This game will have several different and highly interesting systems: perception system, extreme environment system, disposition system, atmosphere system, and more. (Discussed on the video by the devs, in small pieces)

Perception system: When you go through an area, you will trigger little messages that simulate your character noticing something about their environment. Sometimes this just adds color, sometimes it leads to something more. During the stream, they walked past a broken column and got something along the lines of "This pillar looks ancient". Later, they ran into a locked door, so they returned to the pillar and wandered around it until they saw "something gleaming in the rubble", and eventually a tiny golden key popped up that they used to get through the door.

Disposition system: Pertaining to mob diversity and behavior. I don't think it's currently running on the pre-alpha just yet. Basically, mobs will drop diverse loot and behave according to certain traits, ie a mob that is afraid of fire will cower if you bring a torch close to them. They will also spawn at different times, like a day/night crowd, or a seasonal set of spawns based on time of year, or event-driven spawns.

Extreme environment system: Harsh weather conditions WILL have an effect on your character, unless you're properly prepared.

Atmosphere system: Mostly for ambiance. In the stream, the group went up to the top of a fort/castle and we got to see an epic landscape. Rather than distant landmarks being rendered with unnatural crispness and clarity, they have it so the farther away things are, the dimmer and mistier they appear. This simulates real world landscapes. (Several games have this sort of thing already. EQ's atmospheres are rudimentary at best, so this will seem pretty awesome in comparison.)

Body type system: Some types of weapons will be less effective on certain mobs than others. (Right now an axe is bad vs skeletons, which is kinda weird even to some of the devs.)

- Mentioned in the previous stream is some sort of mana color system. No extra details on this stream, but on the last I believe they said there will be areas with colored auras that will help you regen a certain type of mana at a faster rate.

- No gender locked classes, we did not get an answer on race locks that I recall (but I might've missed it since there were so many people in chat). I'm guessing there will be race locks, because as someone rightfully pointed out, ogre wizards make no sense. (I had no idea gender locks were a thing, but evidently some idiot out there thought that would be a great idea.)

- They are going to make the crafting system more important to gameplay/the community (I'M THERE, YEESSSSSS)

- Zones will be HUGE, though you will still get the loading screen when transitioning between them. The devs want it to be an open world exploration.

- They're making a faction system at the moment.

- No maps, generally very few helper tools. There's an unobtrusive quest journal to keep track of things.

- Some classes will have teleport spells.

- Pets aren't in the alpha yet but they will eventually be in-game.

- Brad cried a little when they got him to nerf his Fiery Avenger before the stream.

- Right now they display dev numbers but it seems like a lot of numbers things will be hidden for actual players.

- There will be epic quests for classes

- There will be a volunteer guide system put in place.

- I think there will be PvP, but it's far off into the future at the moment. They're still working on class balance for PvE.

Conclusions

Pantheon so far is a lot like EQ, but there are elements in there that I recognize from DAoC (classic), like the body type system and so on. People who play more MMOs than I do would be able to comment more on it, but to me the game is looking pretty good. I'm going to keep watching their streams and asking questions.

It was just one really vocal guy in the chat repeating over and over again about getting chunked.

Weirdly enough it's working on others...brainwashing +1, I guess?

It reminded me of one of my high school math teachers who went around for months yelling "Let's get crunked about math!!" until someone finally told him it was a drug reference.

Poor guy.

Bazia
06-25-2016, 02:50 PM
Actually he was using it correctly because it isn't a drug reference

It means to get excited or hyped, to go crazy get crunk

Yeah. Bazia's is the original meaning.

Its in the Welcome to Atlanta video 2001 or so. It explains what crunk is at the beginning. A white dude asks about it.

may as well link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5W73HaVQBg the video that brought the word into all American suburbs across America.

*shrugs*

I can't remember quite where he got it from. Either he got it from some kids who fed him a load of bullcrap to avoid explaining that they were talking about drugs, or he thought he was making it up. Slang foiled his good intentions. Not really his fault, kids were constantly trying to make slang words and get them to catch on.

getting crunk for many people involves drugs to get crunk. a lot of people cant get crunk naturally in the ghetto due to stress.

They say this is a symptom of autism. (Srsly).

Made up words are listed as a behavioral symptom of an autism spectrum disorder.

nah man mcquade's a visionary™ when he's juiced up.

just can't let the development cycle/income continue for so long that tolerance renders him unable to reach liftoff daily. that was vanguard's main problem. if they can release this in the next 1.5 years, or 2.5 if any dedicated MMO fan kickstarts him a real good connect, i can 100% guarantee everquest-tier success

5 star post

tolerance of his DOC plays a huge role on the timeline. if it was something like amphetamine, no big deal things would just get crazy towards the end. Brad however is looking at a slow suffocation since he is probably is like most people and once he's cooked he's too scared to take time off to reset and wastes months/years of subsistence living in stasis.

I know it's pre-alpha and they're placeholders, but can they get in trouble for using sound bites that are ripped from EQ? For some reason it annoys me that they just used a bunch of EQ stuff. Seems lazy.

Game looks decent, although at this stage everything is pretty "meh" at the moment. Will be interesting to see it much further down the development process.

AzzarTheGod
06-26-2016, 05:47 PM
They aren't EQ original sounds. They are stock from a sound company they sell packages in 1995-1997. Daybreak has no claim or rights to the original EQ sounds afaik.

Anyone can buy them as part of a EFX package but in modern times houses usually develop their own sounds. Back then, it was more viable to buy a package from an EFX house.

You'll hear a lot of 90's games in movies, and other stuff. StarCraft sounds for example are still used in other games and movies to this day. Those were purchased from an EFX package as well.

outdoor birds appears in tons of shit to this day. Most recent game i heard it in was bravely default. They were tasteful enough to bury it under a bunch of other sounds to the point I had to really crank the volume to be sure. That has to be the most overused videogame sound effect next to the imp noises from doom.

Maybe you guys don't watch crap, but have any of you noticed the dozens of b-horror movies on Netflix where every piece of exposition comes from the protag looking at an Apple product, apple GPS or lost phone tracking or Facetime serves as a plot device, and Doom sound effects are used extensively? Do you think there's a covert Apple Studios writing this shit or do they just get hooked up with the license to that sound library when they let Apple rape the script?
