Does One Mob Count As A Camp?

I'm looking for an answer to something that happened when I was playing EQ last week. I'm not going to use any names or zones cause I want to keep this civil, if possible but I will explain the situation.

I was sitting at a camp that spawns more than one mob. One of the mobs is a placeholder for a named mob. I was at this camp for over an hour and I was only killing the placeholder to try and get the named mob to spawn. No one else was at the camp.

I soon had a group arrive and in the past, they would see what I was doing and ask me if I had the camp. I would tell them that I had the camp but was just killing the placeholder and was looking to kill the possible named. If they wanted the rest of the camp then they are more than happy to take it. 99.9% of the time, they would agree and we would all be happy.

This last time, the same thing happened except one player from the group started complaining that I was taking away XP from them because I was killing this placeholder and possible named mob. I explained what I was doing to this player and this one player kept complaining saying that I should be killing all the mobs instead of just one or two and because I'm not then they should get the camp, including the placeholder and possible named.

I want to know who is in the right here? Can I just kill the placeholder and possible named and leave the rest of the camp or do I have to kill everything in the camp to also kill the placeholder and possible named?

I would have just asked to pull the rest of the mobs and said I would leave the placeholder and named alone instead of pitching a hissy fit.

You were there first so you can camp any mob you want to. If you don't want the other mobs, they can have them. They cannot force you to abandon your place because you're just after one mob.

You can camp a single mob. Since you were there first, you had the right to exclude them from picking up the stuff you didn't care about.

They should be kissing your boots you allowed them the scraps.

You were in the right OP. It ok to camp 1 mob.

You mean to tell me a < 100 pop server doesnt have camp disputes? Thats hard to believe. Almost like you're playing a solo MMO! :rolleyes:

In King Tranix, don't you have to keep the trash in the room cleared in order to claim the camp? How is this any different?

In the Holgresh cave, choosing to camp only 3 of the 9 spawns wasn't good enough to claim the camp and that is an outdoor zone (different rules that normally allow the camping of a single spawn).

So how is it OK to camp a named without keeping the trash in the room dead?

He's probably camping DA idols and having low levels who want exp come for the regular mobs where he just sits on top of named and kills it till he gets his idol.

So you'd tell someone trying to camp their VP key piece in KC that they need to keep 20+ spawns in the basement clear in order to claim the PH/named? I mean, that's what the "camp" down there consists of so how can you possibly claim any portion of that camp without doing all of it?!

How do you know this didn't happen on the red server? ;)
