Hello, I am a recent player on the server- but I had been very skeptical of emulations. In light of the fact that EQ live is going to be coming out with a new progression server, it was only after I logged into project 1999 for the first time that I decided to change the previous thought (as much as I had been looking forward to it).My brothers and a few friends have been hoping for a new progression server.. but how can live be better than this? I mean old freeport?? Wow....I have to honestly say that after checking this out and grouping on orc hill.. (full grp~!) for a couple hours, This is; and exceeds my expectations. I will not subcribe to play on a server that cators to the high end gamers. It's all the added bull that will ruin it anyways. I just wanted to say that the creators, coders, and all-around Gm's have done a wonderful job to help keep the spirit alive in EQ. As one of my group members said in chat today,. "PARTY AT ORC HILL, EVERYONE IS INVITED". Now, to talk my two brothers and friends who were waiting on progression to ditch that, donate to project1999 instead... and hope for one last good run up to PoP :)

Thanks for makiong this possible... and happy hunting to everyone. See you in game :)

So let me get this straight... You're an old school EQ player.. and it's the emulators you are skeptical of... And Sony you're willing to trust to deliver?

Glad you're finding the server to be as great as I am! I just started last week and have hunted down all the people I used to play EQ with and have tried to get them to join up too :)

I recommend you play Live so you dont have to put up with theses unfair power happy GMs that run this server.Designing a server and also playing the game is a very bad mixture and should never happen.GM/Programmers here do both and have curpted the game the same thing happen in LIVE and about killed EQ as well.Play Live your hard work will not be a wasted if a GM dont like you...They very bann happy here and 90 percent of the time very unjustified and never explain why...bewarned

I actually saw that message last night "Party on the Hill" and thought it was funny.

Remember the progression server on EQLive has all the new stuff in it (Spells/Newbie Quests/PoK) that that away from the experience.

It was quite simple of a decision for me.

Also, of course they play. If they could charge monies for the services then it would be a business. But this is not business. This is a group of people that have worked to bring this up so everyone can play. Oh well they are a GM. If you do not like it, so what. Life is not fair.

AS you see there are some sour people out there that couldnt get away with whatever they were trying (illegally) and ended up getting banned which leaves them still bitter.
Regardless this is a great EMU for old eq lovers. Props to the gms/developers that make this possible everyday for us. Much love

People are what made this game great. I said it when I played back in the day and it still holds true today, even in its emulator/outdated graphics/slightly buggy form. If it wasn't for the game's intelligent design/game play which promotes and encourages the friendly interaction amongst people (to fight baddies, acquire phat lewts, level up, etc), this game would have not been the smashing success that it was for as many years as it was. Other games either don't do it as well or completely lack this element, most notably World of Warcaft (ziiiiing!)

My hardcore playing days are behind me but it has been nice to relive, even if its only a a few hours a week, the EQ experience. Big thanks to the developers!

ps I was the one that made the "PARTY ON THE HILL TONIGHT!" comment! haha. Glad some found it funny :) Nice grouping with ya last night Talid!

.

I support project1999 but I feel oblligated to correct some of this statement. I played on the eqlive prog server during beta and when it went live. During beta some of the new noobie gear quests were available but these were disabled before it went live. POK was not available until pop.

They did have the updated spell damage values which made casters OP, as well as jaggedpine forest in "vanilla" whic of course everyone flocked to pre-kunark. Then in kunark they allowed the new hotzone item drops and out of combat medding to be rolled in which killed a lot of the old schoool feel. I am guessing they won't remove ooc medding this time around either.

what up starklen! I will probably play on the progression server. I want to play some of the content after velious. That being said, id agree that for the most part this server gives a far superior classic experience.

I wanted to add my story.

I left UO because of the player killing to become involved in the EQ beta back in the day, and played for many years. I enjoyed the game greatly and frequently found myself defending the game against detractors. I left shortly after Luclin and drifted through many games and betas: EQ2, Wow, AC2, SWG, Vanguard, Aion, etc. A few times I went back to EQ, but every time was increasingly sadder because of how badly the game had fallen from those early days.

I had pretty much given up on finding a game that matched the level of challenge that early EQ provided, and every time I went back to EQ it had warped things a little more, so much so that now it is hardly recognizable. When I downloaded EQ Titanium, worked through all the technical issues, and finally logged into Erudin to see and feel the same world I had played over a decade ago, I was amazed and nearly overcome by how great it felt to be back. Here was the world I remembered, all the danger, corpse runs, and excitement.

I am so grateful that these unpaid, tireless, volunteers have brought back this experience. You guys are amazing. I don't know why you devs do it, but please continue to do so because the world still needs a game like this, and every new game seems to be trying to be a better Wow clone (and notice how they all keep failing). Thanks, and keep up the good work, you have my appreciation.

EQ progression was a massive failure in comparison to this.

Hotzones, non-era specific drops off of decaying skeletons (and others), spells you shouldn't have, quests you shouldn't have, etc.

It was a fucking joke.

Actually the ooc regen was added mid-velious, since that's the same time it was added to live servers as well. Most of the kunark hotzone loot was meh anyways, if you were a raider it didn't mean much, but there were some very nice items (including haste) out of Grieg's when Luclin was opened.

i played there, the loot wasnt MEH, some of it was ridiculous in comparison to any sort of grp loot you could get. i remember something really nice dropped in qeynos catacombs, but i dont want to poopsock this thread and provide links or anything,so thats enough proof for me.

just because you might be able to get something better in a raid down the road doesnt mean that it wasnt a big problem. i would say some of it was better than alot of raid items, but i dont have proof...just what i recall from like 5 years ago.

EQLive progression is all about moving through the game fast. This server is better cause its more like EQ99 where people were spread out at all levels. Staying here for sure.

There's a more fundamental issue for me. I can play EQ live if I want to experience what the game has become, yet I choose to come here because I've played both and prefer early EQ. So why would I play on a server whose ultimate destiny is to become a shadow of the game I remember.

Won't even consider subbing for Sony's progression.

Progression was fun for a bit the first time around, but it pales in comparison to the P99 experience. I'll happily wait here for Kunark. Kunark was Golden Age of original EQ to me, and it's worth the wait to see it done the right way.

OOC regen was added to Live with the launch of the Serpent's Spine, which was September of 2006 (The Combine launched, I believe in June 2006). As far as I remember they weren't able (read: willing) to code it out of the Progression Servers, so wherever they were at that time is when it was added. Velious or Luclin sounds about right.

I remember specifically raiding ntov immediately after the TSS patch that added OOC regen, so...

Since I mained a shaman, a class with the mana regen advantage, I was all like "wtf is this shit"

There was nothing special out of Qeynos Catacombs. What you're thinking of is most likely the Freeport Sewers zone. Here was the loot from that zone:

Eff live.. there's only one thing that could cause me to play on the progression server over p1999 and that's if it was a PvP based server.

Unless, of course, if p1999 came out with there own :p
