View Full Version : Not so off topic, playing on my own?

I've been playing on this server off and on for a year, and one time this guy started his own server during some of the DDOS attacks a while back, just to kill time.

Is it possible to start my own server just to kill time or when I'm bored, where I can go /godmode and just run around willy nilly? Don't really care to let others play, so I'm assuming I host the server on my pc somehow? Im not familiar with this kind of stuff.

Yes, it's not that difficult. The hardest part is getting the software versions for everything you need to agree with each other.

Thanks I'll check it out, and I'm assuming if I did run a server just for myself, it would look kind of what PEQ's content what look like?

There are servers up with GM commands enabled, if all you wanna do is run around and blast things.

They usually say something like "GM Commands" in the title, the last one I played on was "The Abyss". It was 2 other players and I on the server.

You don't have to buy Perl, it is free.

Use the x86 version, regardless of what computer you have. Assuming you have windows, use this download link:

http://downloads.activestate.com/ActivePerl/releases/5.10.1.1008/ActivePerl-5.10.1.1008-MSWin32-x86-294165.msi

It's off this page:

Thanks for the tip, but I noticed the link you provided is for the 1008 build, and EQEmu states it uses 1007, is there going to be an issue using 1008?

Also, the same problem happened again, here is the error (about 3/4 of the way through)

"There is a problem with this Windows
Installer package. A program run as part of
the setup did not finish as expected. Contact
your support personnel or package vendor"

Yeah, 1008 will work fine.

I'm not really sure about that error, unfortunately :\
