View Full Version : Traveler's Boots vs J-Boots

So, that gnome in Sol A is selling Traveler's Boots:
http://wiki.project1999.com/Traveler%27s_Boots
The effect appears to be the same as j-boots (+35% run speed). 5k is around the retail price if I recall correctly, so much cheaper than j-boots MQ (average of 7k).
The only difference I see is a 1.5 second cast instead of insta cast.
Any reason NOT to buy these instead of j-boots? Only reason I can think of is j-boots gives you a nice junk buff (due to insta cast) during certain encounters in outdoor zones or when fighting dispellers outside.
Anything I'm missing? I haven't gotten my j-boots yet, so would rather buy the 1.5 sec casting ones if there is no serious drawback.

instacast clickies also instantly refresh your spell bar (instead of having to wait 1.5 seconds or whatever between casts).

wha...what the @#$%!!! This would have been stellar to know prior to many gaming sessions at AC for my necromancer. Fairly certain these are not in game? Or maybe they released with Velious?
Buying J boots is for the weak, camp your own ring and J boots are nearly free (minus the RNG of the turn in that can make you want to /wrists, cant put a price on sanity)

Traveler's boots are no drop which rules them out for half of the people on the server without heavy faction work...

Traveler's boots are about 5k too, i would rather pay 1 - 2k more and get jboots.

They are definitely in game, have seen them when buying my latest Tink Bag.
I am not a caster, so refreshing spell bar I don't care for, and I'm not quadding or anything where I need my sow up always.
I'm also not wanting to deal with drama of camping a ring, so if I'm going to buy... no reason NOT to get these?
Maybe can see it as a service of removing plat from the server. There, I feel better about myself.

For 1-2k more you can get an item which you will basically never regret having. Otherwise, you should probably just use SoW pots.

I find I would regret spending 2k more to save 1.5 secs of my life now and then. I get that it isn't superior to jboots... but regret? a bit of a stretch.

Not about saving 1.5seconds. Can cast while moving, instantly replace when dispelled w/o interrupting attack, refresh spell bar, lag people out with perpetual kaioken aura and more! Saved seconds are not a consideration ^^
But yes, no need to regret ^^

Yea....jboots in general are so expensive....5k?
That is equal to 50 full sow pots....
Which is 500 doses of sow....
Which is 250 hours of sow.....
Unless you are going to go ALL the way to 50+ on a character, it is just way cheaper to throw on a bunch of sow potions. I play lotta alts, so getting Jboots on them is usually out of the question.

I prefer the instant click. There's a lot of oh shit moments where you are glad you can reapply your run speed instantly. Paying a bit more won't really matter in the long run, an extra 2k plat doesn't take long to acquire.

have these shoes been for sale always? insta cast is swell esp for griefing people with spam but sometimes it's just a hassle to buy the MQ for your 500th Fire Giant Warrior
I just wrote a post about why TBoots aren't a good option for most people in the Monk forums: http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2351770#post2351770

As an Iksar Monk, I got Kindly with the gnomes in SolA after doing ~5 levels in SolB (I don't know where I started). I expect that most good races start out non-KoS, and my own experience indicates that evil races don't need very heavy faction work to faction up.

My rogue, ranger, and druid can all cast SoW, but they all carry Jboots. Each of them have had their lives saved from having an instant emergency run speed clickie at some point. Every class besides Shaman should carry them.
1.5 cast time kills most of the utility, would not recommend.
Who the hell pays 7k for jboots mq? Isnt that shit perma camped on blue? Shouldnt it be cheaper? They run 3k on red.
3k for the actual boots or 3k to get scammed and corpse camped?

Same number of ancient cyclops hanging around, 10x - 15x the player population.

Lol @ needing "nuts" to play on red.
It is a ghost town with 95% of camps uncontested.
Easy mode EQ really.

JBoots are easy enough to get for just 325pp especially for casters if you just bind in SRo desert and port there every 8pm to check for the 9pm AC spawn. Early morning hours you can often find the zone empty.
Damn dude are you that scared of pvp on an elf simulator? Do yall remove your nuts at the server select screen? If blue server people are that good at everquest why dont you grow a pair and try red. PvP isnt that bad.
Iunno, I sat at Sro on red99 camping the AC for 3 days killing any Nilly druids in their Fear gear as they came. Back when server had some populance that is.
I just know how the population there is, hence would never trust buying a jboots MQ from anyone. People ambushed randoms at bank with Trak tooth lifetap clicks etc.

If you are a bard or monk you don't get a choice. Buy the jboots.
I've known about Traveler's Boots for a while, but the instacast on JBoots is nice.
I usually just go for the SRo AC when I'm helping someone get their JBoots. It can be a bit of a time investment depending on RNG but it gives whoever's with me a sense of accomplishment :)
Also waiting in line is boring so screw that. It's more fun to race someone to the AC!

I would never buy those if jboots were only an extra 1k or same price. Got a SoW sword and I still carry a 10dose pot in my bags for faster cast but then again I'm on paper. If you really need a insta click refresh item, grim aura or something much better depending on class

Better to spend your platinum funding a tradeskiller(sow pots) than an MQer anyways(jbooties).

Stop buying MQ's and the camps will open to those who want the actual item.

I bought the T-boots on my monk, the thinking was I didn't really need the instant clicky for dispel since epic/robe covers that and would be able to FD in emergencies anyways.
Ended up regretting it because the boots having a cast timer was MUCH more annoying than I thought it would be.

When I'm chain pulling I don't have time to stop and cast for 1.5 seconds if it drops. When my jboots are dispelled during a pull, I don't have time to stop for 1.5 seconds and cast a new buff. If you buy Tboots and *dont* regret it, you're probably not a very good monk. Buy Jboots or camp your own - Tboots shouldn't even be an option for a Monk

Hear hear to this. I'm just happy the sro ac is so undercamped, lets me and my friends pick up jboots for our characters.
Pretty sure traveler's boots have been out for a long long time in the timeline, fwiw. I don't remember exactly when they came out but it was back in Kunark at the latest.

I strafe run to get back to any pull spots without a mob beating on me (being a good monk and all), so don't worry about that. Furthermore, I'm level 58 so beyond pulling in Dreadlands or anything like that. The only feasible outdoor zone I can think of for exp is KC, and that is such a shit zone. I would only use the boots for travel from point A to point B.
As I stated, I was just wondering on any raid target encounters if jboots insta cast are necessary.

My gnome only uses sow pots, worth 10plat a click! He also ports for like 50plat a port on average! I could not avoid porting at least 3 to 4 times a day if i tried, so free sow pots for life!
Jboots too slow for this gnome.
My monk has jboots, wish i had a sow instead all the time.
