View Full Version : Computer Chair?

Does anyone have a chair that's decent for knees (you'd know if it was an issue), lower back, and neck? I fidget like mad in my chairs.
I'm looking for a computer chair that has a seat tilt option. Seat tilt has been pretty amazing for my lower back. It's usually indicated by the third adjustment level in photos.
Height adjustment
Back rest adjustment
Seat tilt adjustment
Most "ergonomic" chairs seem to mostly be gimmicks that tout lumbar support and back rest tilt, which is not what I'm after.
I like some of the features on some of the DXracer Chairs, but they don't have a seat tilt... and seem to be marketed for their style
I've not been a fan of lumbar supports.

i use a folding chair with some basic padding at my home desk (actually a table). basically a higher end picnic chair, worth about $20 retail. Way more comfortable than every over-engineered highly expensive computer chair I have used, and I have spent bew coo bux experimenting.
If that's not dignified enough there is an expensive office chair my school had, I can't remember the name right now but it's one of the most famous office chairs, retailed for like $500-$750 and it was comfy for long periods of time. Had a hammock type of a back on it (piece of perforated fabric pulled taut was the backing). If you felt like doing the legwork I'd advise you whether you found the one I am thinking of. But I am from the plywood mattress kramer school of thought and have discovered that my little dumpster find excels.

I've tried many chairs, this includes fixed, egg crates, cheapo comp chairs from garage sales, and even a fancy one work bought for me- which I forfeit to someone else in place of a fixed chair again.
Adjustable seat tilt is what i'm after.

ill tell you really man i got 2 ruptured disc in my spine and anything with a lumbar support (hump in the lumbar area) will just make your back hurt worse. stick with something more straight.

Would work except when playing competitive games i like to sit forward and be up close to the action. recliners dont really give you that option.

The herman miller aeron, I think, offers seat tilt
I have the humanscale freedom which doesn't have seat tilt but is still super comfy!

Oh I'm opposite. In fact hook me up to VR inside a sensory deprivation tank and I'll prolly rank in top 2 every time rather than in top 4 each match.

Nah I've actually got a really nice hardwood desk and an expensive (uncomfortable pos) chair in the other room. The ergonomics are inferior so I don't use em. Card table + picnic chair trumps my ~$7-8k setup :o

I use three pillows on my chair because it no longer rises or declines. The spring is broke. However, I am in my 20's and in decent shape so I don't have to worry about such ill things

Thank you for the suggestions. I checked them both out and wrote to both. Waiting on the response from one. It's really difficult to find a chair that has a seat tilt. I'm start to suspect that seat tilts eventually lead to unwanted 'play' in the elevation piston.
The search continues

Aeron is a nice chair, but $800.00 is utterly insane.
"yadda yadda, money for your back/body yadda yadda" it's just way too overpriced

although the answer may be in mobility and ease of access to the game/a game/controls.
800 bucks might be well worth it if the experience transcends stereotypes and normalcy, into the realm of What the most best for U.

This is not my picture with the bad game, idiotic triclosan hand sanitizer, ugly girlfriend, and the dirty inferior part of the globe rotated into view, but that is my chair. And it's comfier than shit. The back is huge and goes way up there. I'm 6'4 (actually 6'4 and not online 6'4) and it's impossible to find a chair with a high enough back that isn't a recliner, but this one comes close.

I play from my living room couch on a 67" tv. I have a monitor plugged in at a computer desk here but I rarely use it.

Honestly that's not that much if they really are as good as people say they are. A decent low end computer seat is going to run you anywhere from 100-250. At work we go through them like nobody's business. If you can buy one good chair that lasts at least 20 years for 800 thats a good investment. If you really do want to cheap out you could always buy a yoga ball :p

I only know what I've been told. They look pretty solid and anything that can break on them looks like it can be easily repaired. Lets say 10 years then. Still a good investment imo. I really shouldnt be the one pushing them though because I dont own one. I have a cheap office chair because I rarely sit at my home desk and the chairs at work are a business expense.
Herman Miller Aeron (http://www.hermanmiller.com/products/seating/performance-work-chairs/aeron-chairs.html)
Go to a herman millar store if you have one nearby. I went to one on a lunch break and they let me test out their products. Instead of Aeron, I ended up getting an Embody chair with its accompanying desk. The two together are super comfy, but I can't speak to whether it's good for back pain. Here (https://www.hermanmiller.com/content/dam/hermanmiller/documents/user_information/Embody_Chairs_adjustment_guide.pdf) are the chair's adjustments.

I've had my humanscale freedom for 10 years. Lifetime warranty, yolo.
I've had a few parts mailed to me. I imagine the aeron (or really any of their higher end line) is easily a 10+ year chair too.

I too have the HumanScale Freedom model with headrest (http://www.humanscale.com/products/product.cfm?group=FreedomTaskChairWithHeadrest) at home and I swear by it. I've had mine about 3 years now and I can't find any fault with it - would like to get one for work but I know some asshole is going to make off with it when I'm traveling.
The only upgrading I did for the chair was I went all gel in the base, headrest, arms, and back.
Lifetime warranty makes this cheaper than replacing a $200 chair every few years.
