I am looking for a CAD program that I could use to build blueprint buildings and design cabinets etc. Please post any info, would greatly appreciate it!

ummm prolly that google program, er sketch-up? I haven't used it in years, but I hear it's come a long way. Free or cheap or whatever. Free version, not sure the limitations. Pretty sure it has a full trial for 15 or 30 days or something. Otherwise, if you are spending money, auto-desk, it's what I've used at work, but on the company dime, it's expensive. That and bobcat which I don't think is around any longer. Otherwise search sourceforge if you want full function free, I think there were a number of good ones there.

Other alternative is grab a paper, pencil, couple rulers (one extra long), a board, a string (optional), a square (triangle ruler thing) and have at it. Put together a makeshift drafting table. I'm sure there are some quick drafting tutorials on youtube, I took a few semesters of it in HS a long time ago, it's not hard. Just understanding to project the angles to build side views and all that, just takes a little basic understanding.

Free? Sketch Up

Paid? AutoCAD , VectorWorks

Hire an architect learning this software is a skill. You will spend less time and money on one versus drafting something up.

Sold pirated and cracked copies of CAD on ebay all throughout college in 2004-2008.

PayPal was in its infancy and guys like me and my roommate contributed greatly to the PayPal you see today..

We completely fucked them up for life.

For 2D stuff such as floorplans and such, AutoCAD is what I'd go with though I haven't used it since my freshmen year of school.

For 3D, the two big dogs that come to mind are SolidWorks and ProEngineer. I've used both but my preference is for SolidWorks because 1) it's more user friendly and I don't need the power of ProE for what I'm doing and 2) every company I've worked for uses Solidworks.

You could easily get either program after some buccaneering on the internet and probably teach yourself the basics with tutorials.

Alternatively, you could send it to me (mechanical engineer) and I'll give ya a good rate :D
