PVP in East Freeport event

I half expected when I woke up after staying up from 2-3am to find a thread about this already with screenshots and videos. You guys are slacking.

For those of you that weren't around Hobby and the Erudite GM had a PVP event in East Freeport last night. I have to say I had a blast, I hope everyone else did as well.

Hobby hinted that if there was a pleasant response to the event that we might just see more in the future! So I'm tossing my hat in the ring to say it was awesome, thanks Hobby!

Now where's those videos and screenshots? I know Grunny had some, and perhaps one of my guild members as well.

I am glad that those in attendance had a good time. Despite a few small issues such as noob ganking and the Guard spawnings, it went extremely well (even though TMO ganged up on people).

This was a "testing of the waters" so to speak as a potential weekly thing... I know people are upset about the lack of PvP and this is the perfect outlet. If this generated enough interest and enough people had a good time, then expect more of this type of thing. There may be slightly different methods of me hosting this, such as assigning area's for the noobs and the higher ups (such as south ro -- desert side for high levels, grass for low levels) but all of this depends on having enough interest.

In a PVP that you can join in on freely or leave freely that doesn't effect a zone people need to level or camp something in would only be a plus. Specially if it was GM regulated and had a pre-existing time so everyone had something to look forward to on Friday Nights (or said night).

Well this is not only for screenshots or video...I want feedback from it, I want to know how I can improve things (WITHOUT CODING) and things of that nature. The next location I'll be having this (if I do have it, still not sure how popular it is) would be Greater Faydark. Large zone, can bind anywhere, and lots of sniping places.

But, this only depends on how much feedback I get from this. It is alot of work for me to summon 40+ people, turn pvp on or off, res people, summon people back, make sure people are not being assholes....I want enough interest for me to make it worth while, and if I feel it will be, then I will make a date/time for people to plan for it.

The Arena exists, could it be the site for the battle? Could something be set up so folks could port to the arena for the battle? like a temporary Priest of Discord in EC who would teleport you there and back?

its been years since i was actually in the Arena, is there a section for spectators to watch without being in the mix?

Arena would be a bad place...as not only it setting you pvp, but i can not turn it off for those who just want to watch since it is a server-side command and I do not have access for that.

With PvP, i can chose who wants to participate and everything... turn it off and on with a click ofa button, and can control it in a sense.

With East Freeport, we had a nice jumble of players there, and we had alot of people just watching. They would join in and then ask for it to be taken off 10minutes later or so, and it was a fun time. I plan on keeping it at places people can bind to so they do not have to worry about constant summoning or finding ports or running, so city zones are prime.

Overall I had fun, killed a few people, got blinded repeatedly by a Dozekar cleric and even managed to die a few times until i decided i had enough blackscreen and left.

It was a lot of fun. I regret not taking more screen shots. Ill see about asking people for screen shots if they took any.

Halas pong would be interesting area.. easy bind spot lots of open area.. but all water and no guards unless you get on land.

It was lame at first because I kept getting gang raped. Once I started using shady guerrilla tactics though it was fun. I think most of the people I killed had no idea where the random ice comets were coming from. Waiting for mana to regen was boring too, maybe next time I'll have to bring Loke.

For those who were not there, I will explain as to what it was --

Both myself and Ezuen summoned people, turned pvp on or off when hailed, and res'd upon death. We have an area set up (normally around myself) where people can sit and med and not get attacked...does not mean you can run to me while being attacked and expect to live though.

Since it was in freeport around the gate, we killed guards and npc's...however in gfay I wont due to the large amount of area to run. HOWEVER, training guards and FD'ing them on someone is going to result in a short suspension.

The goal of this is to have people have fun, and not be abunch of jackass idiots. Griefing is the only thing 100% not allowed...dont ruin it for others by fucking around.

The most that this will accomplish is giving ME something to do when petitions are slow or dead and to let people have a good time. Since kunark is taking some time, and people are progessively getting more and more anxious, then this is a great way to spice things up a little.
