Disagree. It's about aesthetics and the other choices have none.

I kind of enjoy the ogre/troll butt scratching, and trolls do look nice in plate with velious style helms. I have to disagree that the others have no aesthetics.

Let me guess, you don't like mixed races or little people?

Yes - all halfling warriors have the exact same newb personality, it's uncanny.

Hmmm, thought I was answering the question posed by the thread?
Most of my EQ chars have been human, half elf, or wood elf, with the occasional barb, dwarf, or iksar tossed in for variety. Swing and a miss.

I have two!

Edit:

I have loads of other 'bad' combos

Iksar Warriors (shoulda rolled monk!) -also got

Human Necromancers (iksar ftw) -got

Barbarian shaman (why not iksaror fatty) -got

Karana Ranger (Tunare for quests, dummy) -got

Rallos zek plate shorties (Brells for kunark era dwarvern cultural) -got

half elf warrior (just why?!) -my red warrior, Innoruuk for deity so hated everywhere

anything gnome (wall vision is a terrible bug that ruins immersion and the race is for people with serious drug problems) -even I cant bring myself to roll a gnome.

Cecily gets it. Barbarian shamen are the ONLY choice of shamen there is if you have any sort of decency.

Why haven't people said anything about Druid wood elves?

This is a moronic thread. As if, if you are not a min-maxing dweeb, you must be a noob. Yup, you cannot be successful if you don't have certain stats at level 1, hahahahaha. Losers...

Iksar Monk/Necro. Casual/easy mode for the least classic experience possible. You know I'm right.

Thinking back to when I played the first time around, here are some combos that I recollect which tended to attract newer players, or at least those which stuck out to me:

Barbarian Warrior (bonus if they use "aye" in place of "yes")
Human Paladin (includes my forum namesake character)
Woof Elf Druid (bonus if female)
High Elf Cleric (bonus if female and refers to other players as "hun")
High Elf Wizard (bonus if stoned all the time)
Halfling Rogue ("I heard it levels faster")
Half Elf Ranger (bonus if named some variant of legolas)
Human Monk (bonus if eyepatch)
Iksar Monk (bonus if name incorporates some sort of lizard motif)
Dark Elf Necromancer (norrath's equivalent of goths)

Nobody played Shadow Knights, I could never tell what race Enchanters were due to illusions, and I didn't pay enough attention to Shamans, Bards, or Mages to develop an opinion. Yeah, I listed both Monk options. Anyone else remember how Monk players would invariably regard any nice low-weight item as "monk loot"? It was the newbie class, akin to Hunters in Warcraft.

On P1999 the list would be pretty well any min-max combo, but there aren't many genuine newbies here.

Noobz that are so bad they get your group killed are annoying. But not as annoying as the arrogant fuck who thinks they know how to play everyone elses' class better than anyone else, all the while babbling on while someone in the group dies, because they weren't paying attention to the action, but were more concerned about instructing everyone else on how to play the game "right"

That, or refusing to add someone to the group because they are the "wrong" class, and then the group wipes because they were short-handed
