Multi-questing Coldain Rings is as classic as farming Flowing Black Silk Sashes.

No fix is required. If you don't like losing the ring roll you can always turn in when you lose the roll and trash the whole system so that it becomes a spam click fest in Gloradin's house.

Or you can accept anyone who does the first 7 quests and has a Marching Order has just as much right to do the quest as you do. Regardless of whether he sells the 8th ring, wears it or destroys it.

If people are abusing the quest to MQ it I'd say that's call for an end to the roll off... because its intention to help the winner is no longer happening.

(unless you count helping the winner's bank balance)
