Christmas is the time of year for giving and having fun with friends and family. With that said I thought it would be a great time to do another giveaway with my internet family, you guys! :)
I am doing another giveaway like I did before (https://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=258454), only this time it's going to be much much bigger! For those that weren't at my previous giveaway, I will describe how I did it last time. The raffle is all done in my twitch chat. (https://www.twitch.tv/pro5pt0) I pick some item(s) then I instruct everyone in twitch (https://www.twitch.tv/pro5pt0) to pick a number between "X and X". Everyone will have 2 minutes to respond. Then I random in game and whoever picked the number closest is the winner. At the moment I have roughly 50kpp in raffle items.
I do plan to get more, that is why I say 50-100k raffle. 50k is what I have now for raffle items, but 100k in raffle items is my goal. After I do the raffle, I will be doing a contest with the assistance of P99 Department of Fun (https://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=221283). I would like to thank these guys for helping me out with ideas, and also helping me coordinate this.
As for the contest, I am not going to go into a lot of detail about that. I want everyone to have the same chance at winning. But I will tell you the contest will have the prizes listed below ...
First Place: Lodizal Shell Shield (http://wiki.project1999.com/Lodizal_Shell_Shield)
Second Place: Hierophant's Cloak (http://wiki.project1999.com/Hierophant%27s_Cloak)

Why not use stream to spread the word even further. In this day and age people want to see more, react more and feel involved in something. Thus Twitch was born. If you think he is using it to further his own stream well that is just silly.
We will use all available resources in order to inform people. Forums, FB, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, CarrierPigeon, In Game, EC Tunnels, and everything else in between.
Nobody in the Dept of Fun is in this for anything but Fun!!
So HAVE FUN and Show up on the 22nd and GL with the raffle!!

It's obviously as much a promotion for his twitch stream as it is a giveaway. Still cool to get a chance at free stuff, but, it's not purely altruistic. There is self interest at work as well. Self interest veiled as charity is often very problematic in the real world. Seems ok in this instance though. Dude wants some twitch followers for fun times and a hobby. Helping him him out small price to pay for this raffle!

Why not use stream to spread the word even further.
I see, so forgive my ignorance here, I don't use Twitch. How does Twitch spread the word of this event exactly? I am just trying to understand how people who don't log in, don't play the game will run across this stream. Are live streams of P99 really that popular?
Are you saying that someone could possibly happen upon this live stream on Twitch then feel compelled to get a copy of Titanium EQ, install it according to P99 instructions and play just from seeing such an event?
In this day and age people want to see more, react more and feel involved in something. Thus Twitch was born. If you think he is using it to further his own stream well that is just silly.
Ok, again who is seeing it and being part of this event other than the players on the server?
How does Twitch make people feel more a part of the event, than actually being involved in the event?
I don't know if it's even possible to "further" one's own stream because I don't use it and I am not familiar with how or if it generates revenue or helps the streamer personally.
Speaking as someone who streams events, it actually provides a couple of nice advantages compared to simply keeping it in game.
1) More people hear about it/find it - the more the merrier!
2) People not necessarily in your zone can interact with you in a way besides tells. Also people who aren't in-game can speak with you.
3) It's ends up being a lot like a radio show, only with gaming video. In other words, it's a form of interactive entertainment. You can share music and chat with other players. I think Speedi's got a bot that lets you request music as well. You can do a lot of stuff with it.
4) You can archive the broadcast for people who want to watch stuff while at work without you actually playing, as well as document things you've done that you might want to go back to watch again. We never had that kind of stuff back when EQ was first out. Would've been nice, I think :)
The question of whether or not promoting your twitch channel is some form of arrogant self-promotion hasn't really cropped up until recently, I think because twitch has really started to take advantage of the popularity of some streamers and turned them into a kind of marketing tool for the gaming industry. It's also very standard for streamers to allow others to donate to them for whatever reason (something I don't really agree with personally). Twitch and the twitch community make it very, very easy to obtain some sort of personal gain through the otherwise unlucrative activity of gaming as a regular player.
That said, I don't think all stream promotion is inherently bad. Yeah, you do want more viewers for your stream. More viewers means more people to interact with while grinding. You can find people to team up with when you wanna take down something bigger than the usual stuff, despite not being in a guild or anything. You can make friends through streaming. You can demonstrate unique facets of a game (EX: Sirken shows some of the inner workings of petitionquest - certainly not something you normally see) or teach others strategies.
In regards to if not streaming would make the event seem more charitable...maybe, if you have a poor opinion of twitch streamers in general. But at the same time, it's still a really good advertising tool if you want more participation. P99 has a pretty good twitch community, anyway.
Edit:
Are you saying that someone could possibly happen upon this live stream on Twitch then feel compelled to get a copy of Titanium EQ, install it according to P99 instructions and play just from seeing such an event?
Ok, again who is seeing it and being part of this event other than the players on the server?
To the first question, yes. I've seen this happen just with regular grinding streams. The person gets to ask a p99 player questions directly and even get help with installing or starting out. It's like a personal recommendation! For event streams, people actually see what's going on and see all the participation, and it's often quite different from regular MMOs and it gets them interested. Like a demonstration of the p99 community! Look at us, none of us are 15 year old boys screaming that we're going to rape each other! Yay!
Second question: p99 streamers are able to select which game they're streaming, in this case EverQuest. This lumps them in with the live streamers, so they tend to label their streams Project 1999 before anything else. People who want to watch EQ stuff will search for streamers playing this particular game, and voila! They've found Project 1999.

When such an event is portrayed as some awesome good will event, yet requires people who participate to also use a live stream site I can't help but become suspicious of it.
When some people promote it as this wonderfully altruistic event and then get very defensive of it when you question the motives of the event or how exactly it works, I become suspicious of it.
I just wanted some clarity on the matter because I never used Twitch, (and probably never will.) I really wanted to understand the true purpose behind a live stream and how it enhances the event that the streamer is holding.
Thanks Sorn and Redhorse, for some sensible explanations on it.

Yeah, this has more to do with twitch than anything else. Just the way it's set up. It DOES filter out troll accounts somewhat. You're able to moderate your twitch channel in case someone shows up screaming abuse as a form of opportunistic sociopathy.

lol why are you nerds so mad about someone increasing their follower count? It doesn't affect you in any way. In fact, you are the beneficiary. If you think p99 streamers are in it for donations (especially dudes,) you are woefully naive to that world. EQ streamers get maybe 20-30 viewers on a good night. It's a pretty fair exchange and quite generous, in my opinion.
I'll be there, looking forward to it! Thanks Speedi and DoF.

Trading goods and/or services outside the game for benefits inside the game is rmt.
Clicking follow on a Twitch channel ≠ goods and/or services, nor is soliciting followers from P99 a way to generate income. It will never lead to direct income of any kind. It will never somehow indirectly translate to income of any kind. It will never pave the way to set up a stream of revenue of any kind. Do people do these things with Twitch? Yes, of course they do - these people have hundreds of thousands of regular viewers. Can Speedi accept donations from people? Of course he can. That is not RMT. It's so insane that you have to point out that charity isn't transactional on these forums. Some of you fucking people, I swear - if you think what Speedi is doing is RMT, you're an idiot.

Seriously! Holy shit. To those of you seeking to point out that OPs generosity is somehow diminished because he's promoting his channel are literally the cancer of the world. He's not asking you to buy tickets or create anything at your expense. He's giving away wonderful prizes at zero cost to you, yet here you are complaining about the motives behind the giveaway.
It's because of people like you that there isn't more charity in the world in the first place. Why shouldn't those who do amazing things for others be rewarded, even if it's in a small manner such as a Twitch follow? If the goal of charity is to help others and someone puts in a lot of work to make it happen continuously, aren't they deserving of something?

Lhancelot, you are the epitome of "I don't do it so it's stupid" attitude that is just basically your own superiority complex. Get over yourself and take a chill pill.
Everyone else who is complaining pretty much sums up the current state of the server, everyone who plays here expects the devs and anyone else who is offering FREE services to bend over backwards to their demands as if they deserve some kind of customer service here.

mad he wants to do it via twitch stream?.
not mad here but I won't be partaking or watching specifically because its on twitch, it feels less sincere if popularity/follower/ad revenue gains are involved.
this one time in EC tunnel a guy was quitting and gave away all his things, pretty sure he had a fungi on too, had a swarm of people chasing him around shady as he was dropping gear on the ground and then switched to doing /randoms. no twitch or youtube was involved, just a guy doing a legit nice thing for folks when he could have just deleted his character.

it feels less sincere if popularity/follower/ad revenue gains are involved.
There are no ad revenue gains. You don't generate ad revenue by drawing a few dozen P99ers to your Twitch stream.
Look, if you're jumping into a giveaway thread to point out to people that the way someone is conducting their giveaway isn't the most sincere, most selfless, most transparent possible way to do things, you are an asshole. Self-aggrandizement and internet popularity is beside the point - it's a giveaway. Only the most insufferable, pedantic, insecure complainers will point out that a nice gesture is slightly less of a nice gesture because of x or y. It's still a nice gesture. No one with any sense of reality gives a shit about how many followers he has on Twitch. It does not matter. Coming in here and saying Speedi's giveaway "feels less sincere" because he's hosting it on Twitch and gains Twitch followers from doing it is poorly masked jealousy masquerading as virtue.

I like that gif, except John Cena has never taken a chair shot without putting his hands up in his life. Of ALL people to use that open present spot on, he shouldn't have been the guy!

Lulz, I'm going to kill you next time I see you at an event. Wildfire should oneshot a level 19 druid, right?
Level up if you want a chance at living. :P And next time don't train the finish line, noob.

Ty for the compliment but this was all Speedi we were just there to assist and crowd control.
DoF is a community driven events crew and as such it was a group effort.
