I don't think even Hannibal could have predicted his total military mastery of Italy. He basically ruled the countryside for years as an occupying force. They could have established a smithy and gotten the materials in that time.

It could be argued that he did bring siege equipment but either had it damaged, stolen, or left by the wayside while travelling. Didn't he lose an outrageously shit ton amount of soldiers while moving his army around, due to the elements and attacks along the way? Don't think it would be too much of a stretch to imagine that what equipment he brought may have been lost.

Additionally, Hannibal's goal wasn't necessarily to attack Rome as much as it was just to claim roman territory. Maybe he thought that he wouldn't need a buncha siege equipment if he wasn't intending to go after Rome itself? I dunno.

Hannibal lost a lot of troops crossing from Iberia and fighting local tribes.his ability to assimilate people who hated Rome into his armies was a really important factor for getting reinforcements on the go. But from my research there's no evidence they lost something on the way. Most historians just talk about how silly it was not to bring siege equipment. As one of Hannibals friends said, he knew how to achieve victory but not to use it.

I think the best way to understand how news works is to pretend to be a journalist and deep dive ones-self. Than find out who owns who and what and were they are getting their sources and citations out of and everything. Slate ran a brilliant hit piece on Newsweek producing click-bait. But slate is owned by WaPo...

I can't even say how news will work in the 21st century. We are seeing big advertiser funded models implode though (newsweek getting slammed by it's own journalists which it ran through the journalist clickbait shame mill and laid off). Which is good, because I'm sick of advertisements deciding what's newsworthy. And Newsweek was supposed to be good 20 yrs before my time.

It use to be a status of class to have several news publications and subscriptions (sorry prescriptions was a freud (freud is debunked now anyway))in our office waiting rooms. It use to show intelligence and the ability to stay informed and provide topics for discussion. That format is dead and no one is going to digest their news that way anymore.

If you wan't to know about a court case that's big in the news for example, read the 200 page transcript yourself and look at both sides arguments, than research who's defending and prosecuting the case.. than go and look at what other stuff the big hitters pumping money into the lawyers are doing... can't expect journalists to do that for us now.

There's parent companies which run dueling websites now, where 1 will publish a lefty article, and the other worded righty... it's pretty disgusting.

Please note I have already failed as a novelist and suffered extreme health trauma and gone deeply into debt to survive during this period. I am glad I was in the United States because I had the best surgeon in the World. I feel no regret that it was difficult financially. My family helped me survive. I do not need to rely on the teat of government. I will create more family to further my support network and be a reliable source of support for those around me.

Corporations are the problem not necessarily the owners. I've lived in a white owned building for years and have to fight market rate every year. Aggressive pricing. Even with a sound argument my rent increase will only lower to 5% annual down from 7-9%. Its actually where I developed a lot of disdain for corporations and the corporate way of doing business. They have 2-3 other policies in place and contractual obligations to make sure that these rent increases are well-tolerated and that they are able to bully the tenants.

The law here gives them the right to increase it by 15% annually .

if you read my post on the topic i was specifically talking about being held before bail was issued; i didn't say anything about committing a crime or being convicted. to the contrary i ultimately went to trial for false accusations totaling around 7 felonies 3 gross misdemeanors and around ~20 misdemeanors totaling around 30 years of mandatory minimum sentencing and was found not guilty on all but one misdemeanor charge. (i don't remember the exact running total of charges because as i said they were amended around ~25 times before trial)
if i hadn't gotten so lucky i would have likely spent the whole 2 years in holding on false accusations but let me tell you even just the whole having a trial or investigation that major hanging over your head really fucks you up if you aren't pretty mentally sound to begin with.
