View Full Version : Dark Age of Camelot Uthgaard (classic type server like p99)

Whats up ,
They are finally launching the classic era DAoC server Uthgaard soon!
It has been a long wait since it was last announced. They have fixed a lot of bugs and removed exploits. The game should be fair and fun.
I am suspecting the server is going to be full (if that is possible? will it require people to wait in que?) or very packed at least for the first month.

I expect a lot of r99 to be playing since the PvP (RvR) in that era is decently balanced and with the mass population the keep battles will be very fun.
What about "bluebies" , was any of You going to be playing it? Looking to gauge what factions people will be playing. I know Midgard is going to have the most population , looking to maybe start a group (or guild if we have enough) of p99 players. Prefer to play Hib or Alb myself because of the zerg Mids will have.

Does anyone else have something setup guild / group wise and have people ready to go already?

If you didn't experience the game back in the day and even if you are not a fan of PvP it is still worth checking it out. It is free and has a EQ1 type feel.

I think due to the early announcement posted around 6 ish months ago. Has killed some of the hype. I forgot about it after not hearing anything for months.

+ a lot of people tried the beta and didn't enjoy it.
- To those people who did beta yet didn't plan on trying live. Don't judge a book by its cover )) aka beta experience! Give it a try when it launches. Beta was dead compared to what is coming. Beta was around 40-50 people but i bet the population will be huge @ launch. The devs have fixed a bunch of stuff and it should be a totally different experience when you play live launch vs the beta. Don't let the beta ruin your impressions. The game just isn't built for 50 people.

Roll the dice and try it out once it goes live!

Vote your class please - Discussion is in the other thread and looking to get an idea of what realm will have the majority of us p99 players...

Does the server have a max number of players aloud on the server at oŅe time?
Is the max amount fair for all realms or is it random ?
If the max number of people per server was 1,500 people. Can it be 1,200 Midguard and the rest are minorities ? Or is each realm cutoff at a set number ? say 500 each.

Anyone know?
Does a max exist? If it does can anyone answer these Questions?

Will there be a maximum amount of clients?

Yes. Uthgard will launch with a hard cap for safety precautions. We will then gradually increase this if required in order to support as many people as possible. Please be patient with us with this. There will be a queuing system in place in order to help a fair inflow of connections. It should be noted that it is absolutely not our intention to lock anyone out from the game server, these precautions have been put in place to make sure we do not run in to any major issues. It is always best to be safe rather than sorry.

??is just a mistake reading ?? ? or this mean UTHGARD server has a uneven number player on each realms? the understanding is it says the first fastest gets on ????
it has hard cap limit enabled on for safety precautions
if server limit 1500 does this mean the first 1500 fastsest player wins no counts for the realm sizes. no track of realm numbers??

the midguard always are the populist Realm
if no change its first come first serve?? ought change its rule,, UTGHAARD can make Realms tied t hardcapped ! it fix the unfair and even all realms

Ok, I have a question. I played some on the old Uthgaard server which was my first time playing DAOC. At that time I discovered that auto-training thing and I absolutely hated it. You know, that deal where you had to not train your key abilities until max level in order to get the extra training points for them. God I hated that.

So my question is: Did they take that stupidity out or does it still work that way?

Nice thanks, that youtube video on the main page is enticing... never played it because I was an EQ nerd who didn't want to leave my guild

Worried that it's EA owned and they might pull it down but that's a risk anywhere, going to look into it :)

I am not positive - but would lean toward it is the "first come" gets the spot , wins... iirc there is no #cap on how many players are aloud total per realm. So i bet it just maxes out at a certain number (they said they will raise it after starting low) and then people have to wait in the que if they are late to the party. This could be incorrect but it is most likely right.

Nearly 100% for sure that a shut down will not happen. no worries. They already had this server open for like a year + iirc , but it was not fixed and not classic. The staff shut it down to revert everything to classic era (1.65 patch is what they are running).

- Uthgaard has a lot of potential to last a very long time. I bet it goes strong for 3-4 months at least if not all 2017. If You missed out on playing DAoC back in its prime then You would IMO enjoy playing this and should try it out. For those who played this already in the past , come get the > Nostalgia slap
it is Easy to install and has a simple guide to get you started to launch.

.

it works like this. 2000 spots total. 500 for each realm, 500 for those who have yet to make a character. there will be a queue, once you make it to the char select screen you have successfully gotten thru.

Server LAUNCH inc

- Here is a link to the most current list available showing the big name guilds and which faction they will be playing for when the server goes live.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1M2MoxZ1M76rhe5glivPvQKwPc_1U4--Ay-eI7sdShsY/edit#gid=0
Guild leaders have switched over their guilds to Hibernia realm and Hib has grown nearly double in size today! It is no longer on the bottom. Just counting today 3 big guilds switched Hib.

- Create a Albion class - HELP!!
The Albion realm is not hurting. It is just so close to having all 3 realms with a similar population (no mass outnumbered). So getting 10-20 more Albion players would be perfect. Please consider playing alb.
Join me and fight for Albion today ~
Just trying to even out the numbers since Hib got a huge boost today and Mids are maxxed out.

- The Midgard zerg does not need reinforcements. All DAoC servers always have a big population on the mid realm. It is going to be no different here ... They have the numbers advantage. But w/ the guilds that left Mid and switched today. Those guilds alone brought enough skill and coordination to the realms of Hib and Albs...which will even out the Midgard population advantage.

- The server will begin today ! Get ready to play . They will launch with a 250 person per realm max cap. Gradually increasing to 500 people MAX per realm. With the high population zerg that will be playing Midgard , it is going to fill up that Midgard realm (instantly) fast and then the Mids who missed out will get tired of waiting and decide to roll Alb/Hib (if they decide it fast enough and don't also miss out) because...The whole server will be maxxed out fast IMO. So be fast cause its first come wins. If you are slow , get ready to sit in line watching the que timer.

Watch...
The Uthgard server will hit max population so fast (near instant) after it goes live!

- Come try a Albion class! -

Ok, since I apparently am not one of the cool kids here and was completely ignored I searched the forums over there and found out that auto-training is still in. Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone else reading this wondered.

Nice - iirc I seen a few of your post over on the Uthgard forums.
Did you have a premade group or a guild in mind to run with?

I will be playing @ Albion too. I have not decided on a class yet (still open).
I'd like to setup (at the very least) a 3 person group to level with @ launch.

The amount of players and guilds committing to the Realms of Hibernia and Midgard have blown up over the past few hours . Expect both realms to hit the max player cap real fast. + The spreadsheet and the forums don't accurately count everyone. On top of the mass amount already committed , there is another group hidden/not even counted yet. The players that didn't make it public will also be fighting to log in adding even more of a over cluster .

Come join the realm of Albion! It will also hit the max cap fast , but You will have a higher chance to not be left out if choose to play Albs.
If you guys want to play @ launch you will need to be ready to log in fast.

From what I have gathered Uthgard is going to be a full server for at least a month and it is very possible that it lasts a lot longer.

The staff did say that they will start with a lower cap (guessing 250 per realm) and then gradually raise it. So if you do happen to be slow and end up in the que @ launch. Try to give them time to up the cap , just keep trying.

Albion is elfs and shit ya? Perfect.
I'll join u dudes when it's out. I got it all installed. Have no idea what I'll play specifically since I've never played it before.

I am trying to round up a few more people (ANYONE INTERESTED? post or PM please!) and if we don't want to create a guild we can at least group and level together @ Launch tomorrow.

Albion and Hib both have a elf type.
Here is a good website to help decide your class/race.
http://darkageofcamelot.com/content/classes-races
Since this server is set in the classic era , there are some differences in skill/spell effects with the above website. They are minor and really doesn't affect deciding a class.

One reason I personally want to play Albion outside of it being the current underdog , is the armor options they have actually looks good so does the player housing and guild halls. The armor is arguably the most detailed armor of all the realms.
The others seem bland and no detail in comparison.

I have setup a discord server and I will be actively searching for people to group with up until launch.
Will you be able (barring you get in fast enough) to play as soon as it launches?

Agreed. same here... Are you interested (if i can find enough people) to join in a launch group tomorrow?
If we get enough interest over the week it may turn into a guild.
But for tomorrow I was just focusing on at least having 4-5 of us ready to group and play. and will go from there.

If anyone would be interested in grouping Albion tomorrow please post or PM the class you are going to play and I will work on filling in the open spots with classes we need.

Server will be launching this morning! Just a few hours left.

If You plan on playing Albion when it goes live and want a group to run with , leave a PM or post here.

Currently the group does not have any commitment required.
Trying to just have a nice base group to maximize EXP gain.

LFG?
1. Ralvin Cleric (flexible to trade)
2. Cleric (OPEN) or Heretic
3. me CC Sorc (can trade)
4. Minstrel (OPEN)
5. me Theurgist (OPEN)
6.Pal chants / Arms (Open)
7.me **caster DPS (can trade)
8. Antartica - Sorc , pending spec

**possible ice wiz if we get a AE exp group setup

If this doesn't fill out more as the launch nears it will be scrapped.

go for cab, theurg or sorc

all are good in groups and do well solo with great value in RvR later

i think ima play a saracen infiltrator

although WOW necromanceers are so cool in tis game!

go dual wield -> thrust -> rest of points in venom

don't you dare even touch critical attack or stealth while leveling and gimp yourself

Whats up Skew ,

For the emain keep battles I would say Theurgist or Wiz.
1 reason being these 2 classes do crazy damage and are easy to learn , yet fun playstyle.
Wiz-
The double bolt for Wiz helps finish off the people trying to run away and is huge dmg.
If unable commit to a AE group today , Wiz is still a very fun solo. Netting a lot of kills during keep fights.

Theurgist-
If you take Theurgist , you don't have to rely on a group but they are also more sought after for RvR groups. They do decent in all situations besides being solo and a stealther popping on you. They get a AE mez that can be a big help , dmg buff add to melee group members, and a haste buff.
Either or are fun and RvR worthy.

For a more advanced class...
Cabalist / Sorc
You could easily handle a more difficult class to master though. If You want to take the time to master these they also are very nice. Sorc is more of a crucial CC job , lacks being a killing machine like wiz.

If You decide on Albion and want to join up with us let me know.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is a quick class rundown that is pretty accurate from my experience.

Melee Classes

Paladin – Want to meet people easily and get random messages from people to join their group? Make a Paladin! Paladins are Albion’s endurance regen class and needed in every group in order to level efficiently. This is a great first character choice for PvE, and farming but you will find yourself a bit weak in competitive PVP groups. Sadly, this class is terrible in competitive groups as they lack the realm ability determination which is essential for melee classes in fights. If your purge is down and you get mezzed, you will just sit there for most the fight not doing anything. Your damage output will be very low compared to other melee classes even if you go two-handed specialization so If you are wanting to be a melee power house, I would suggest making an Armsman or Mercenary instead. Paladins also Autotrain in two specializations which will affect your PvP viability so I would suggest another class if you plan on reaching high realm ranks here.

Armsman - Another great class for new players. You will be able to deal massive damage and tank in PvE. You can’t go wrong with this class. You might want take the two-handed specialization but it pales in comparison to the polearm path. Two-handed lacks an anytime hinder which is extremely important to protect your casters and healers when fighting in group PvP. This class autotrains Slash and Thrust but you can specialize in crush until level 40 to get a few extra points.

Mercenary - Great class for new players. Your damage output is amazing and you will have the option to tank as well in groups if needed. This class is pretty straight forward as there are two spec choices: Pure damage output with 50 weapon 50 dual wield with the rest in parry and the other option 39 weapon 50 dual wield 42 shield with the rest in parry. Personally, I would recommend the shield line as you will have a lot more utility to bring in PvE and PvP. Without specializing in shield there is little reason to choose you over an Armsman in PvP. This class also autotrains Slash but you can specialize in crush until level 40 to get a few extra points into parry.

Reaver – Do you want to hit like a truck? Reaver’s do a ton of damage with their back-style Leviathan. Unfortunately, this class lacks the realm ability determination making it a worse option in competitive play compared to the Mercenary and Armsman classes. In addition, many of your spells can break Crowd control spells rendering a lot of your utility useless. I would suggest this class though if you want to run in zergs and enjoy PvE mostly. This class autotrains in Slash and Flex weapons. I would suggest leveling in thrust or slash until level 40 as the best spec is flex weapons though I would suggest trying to autotrain all the way to 48 instead and getting a respec stone later. I would not suggest this class as a first character only because to get the most out of this class you should auto train completely but if you are willing to do so you will be wanted in any PvE group as a primary DPS class.

Friar - Amazing solo class that looks like a caster. You will also have the option to be a healer, but the heals are so bad compared to clerics that you might as well pretend it’s not an option. Friars are great for farming and solo leveling so if PvE is what you are wanting this is a good option. In group leveling though any other melee class will outshine you. In groups with a tank, your anytime style acts as taunt so you will need to use your sidestyle chain for the best damage. Friars are my favorite class in the game but they just don't do as well in group PvP which is their downfall. You also will have access to base buffs for groups which helps out a ton when paired with a Cleric.

Casters

Wizard- Massive amounts of damage and great at defending keeps but a terrible choice for PvE and group PvP. In PvE a theurgist brings a lot more utility with haste buff. You’ll spend most your time in a group sitting waiting for mana to regen making your group wishing they had a melee class or Theurgist instead. That does not mean this class is not fun though as nuking people for massive damage is quite fun so this class is awesome in a zerg group. I would say this is more than likely the least desirable class in any situation at this patch level.

Sorcerer – One of the most important classes in Albion as you are the main crowd control class. You have bolt range Mezzes which allows us to get the initiative on other realms more effectively. This class is very stressful though if you do not have the experience with crowd control and kiting properly. Groups will only want one of them in the party and I predict this class to be one of the most played so be prepared for competition. You will provide your realm with mana regen and likely will receive group invites via tells.

Cabalist – One of the best casters in the game. In pvp you can solo really well if you are a skilled player and have a ton of utility in groups. Your pet is great at interrupting and kiting players to death without you even casting a spell. You are also the one of the best farming class as you can use the Matter line’s AOE dots on pygmy mobs in Lyonesse which is also the best way to power level other players but, unfortunately the matter specialization is not good for PvP so you need to decide what your end game goal is going to be. I think this is a great choice for new characters, but they do have a higher learning curve to get the most out of pvp.

Theurgist – Another great caster option. You can provide other players with a melee damage add and haste buff in PvE. You will also be exceptional in PvP as well as your pets are a pain for other players and they help take down keep doors without the use of a ram. You will also be needed in dragon raids to lower a dragon’s ability to be missed. I recommend this class if you want to be a caster that does damage and wants to be welcomed to groups in any situation.

Necromancer – Mostly a farm bot. This class is amazing for making money and power leveling others. You can also solo all the way to 50 if you wanted to. This class is not going to be welcome to join any competitive groups for PvP though as your pet will more than likely be mezzed for most the fight and you can’t even use potions in spirit form. I would suggest a Necromancer if you want to make a ton of money for your main PvP class and you don't mind being by yourself most the time.

healers

Cleric – Albion’s main healing class. Everybody loves you and will beg for you to join their groups. They have access to be a caster with the Smite line but you will have poor damage and poor utility so I would never suggest taking this route.

Friars - I mentioned Friar under melee but it is a hybrid so I will list it here as well. As a healer you will be out of mana faster than a cleric, you will be more squishy, and your heal-over-time spells are just too slow. If you want to heal your group, make a cleric instead.

Stealthers

Infiltrator – An amazing class and perhaps the best stealther at this patch level due to the access of a 9 second stun in the thrust line called Dragonfang. I do not recommend this class as a first character as in order to be competitive you will need a lot of money to get the best gear and always have potions in hand. It’s hard to tell which stealther from all three realms will be the best as they all have their strengths and weaknesses and 1v1 fights are often decided by who has their cooldowns active. Infiltrators will definitely be strongest in the beginning but will even out over time.

Scout - I would not recommend a scout if you’ve never played one before. Scouts will have the hardest time finding a group than any other class on Albion. In PvP you can have some amazing moments but more often than not you’ll be leaching kills or adding to other fights. If you enjoy sitting in the same spot for a long period of time waiting for the perfect opportunity though this class is right for you. Their damage is a bit on the lower side and with Shadowblades and Nightshades having, “see hidden” you will often lose when they get the jump on you.

Minstrel – Albion’s speed class. This is a hard class to play so I don’t recommend choosing this class unless you are ready for a steep learning curve but if you are willing to learn you can have a ton of fun. Your melee damage is terrible but you will be able to take out players kiting them and using your instant direct damage spells. You also can charm pets above level 50 which is incredibly fun to do. You can also provide mana regen to a group in PvE if you are lacking a Sorcerer.

Uthgard is strictly based on the 1.65 patch level of Dark Ages Of Camelot meaning any features* good or bad at the time are in the game. You may not want to play a class if they have autotraining available as it punishes players who spend points early in their careers. Example: An Armsman who has zero slash at level 50 will not be charged for their first 12 points. After 12, they will be charged points normally for that skill. So if you start an Armsman and spec into Slash in the beginning you will end up with LESS points than if you wait until later. You can get up to 77 points in a skill by not speccing into it which can greatly affect your character making it potentially weaker than others

"I expect a lot of r99 to be playing since the PvP (RvR) in that era is decently balanced and with the mass population the keep battles will be very fun."

So, like all 7 people then?

Camelot Unchained won't be out for atleast another year. As for Uthgard's longevity, before they took it down for re-development, it was up for 10 years in a row without any wipes at all.

As for the game itself: anyone interested in doing an *RP* all-Dwarf (& kobold) group?
