I'm wondering how long it would take to become non-kos with the braid turn-ins. I've turned in about 50 or so and I'm still scowls.

It's a rough road for everyone with the OT faction. IF you have your VP key, find a guild clearing it and ask to run along for the faction hits on the dragons. Otherwise.... farm them braids.

It's going to take a looooong time. the quest page for the OT hammer (http://wiki.project1999.com/The_New_Worker) has some example calculations of how many turn-ins would take to get you to amiable. Time however long it takes you to get 4 braids and multiply it by the number of turn-ins you think you'll need. If you can make the plat for a puppet string OT hammer purchase in less than that time it might be a better use of time.

I have experience with doing the OT faction bezerker braid quest a bunch. Keep at it, but it does take a loooong time. A long time.
I have an Erudite Magician that was dubious to outpost, to my surprise, and I started doing the quests at level 48-49 if I recall correctly. I wish I could give you some hard numbers but I just remember saying to myself, "I'm still not amiable yet!?".
I'm replying because I am wondering how you are doing your turn ins as a ranger since I have one as well and didn't think it was possible, otherwise I would grind it to.
But from scowling, that would be at least a months worth of turn ins lol.

Basically, you invis into the outpost, safe spot cast harmony on all the workers, then sneak and turn in. I've only died a few times (when someone opens the bank door, sometimes Veers attacks, or when he starts his patrol), but there are always rezzers at the ramp to help with that.

I started at level 36 I believe. I'm now 40 leveling only on zerk xp and braid turn ins, still scowls. Will update if I ever get to threatening.

If you can get to the high end of apprehensively that some races start with it goes from 120 whips down to 40 needed if you have an ornate rune pendant to click.

Good luck. Just remember if you end up getting amiable, that you should avoid leveling in Karnor's Castle later on. Many of the mobs such as drolvargs in KC will lower your VS faction when killed. It would suck to lose all the hard work.

You didn't like torturing yourself enough by playing a ranger on classic eq, but you also decide to do this?

Ranger best class in game, if anyone can do it, it's a ranger !

In luclin Era, yes. In velious Era though the correct answer is monk or shaman.

You're a ranger, its an outdoor zone. Why do you need faction? Just harmony/sneak through and use the vendors/banks that way. Don't forget the merchants in OT are all greedy so should only be used as a last resort anyway*. I think saving up one or two thousand plat to loan some strings will be a lot less painful than farming zerker braids if you hope to do the OThammer quest.
*My preferred method of resupplying is dieing, and buying everything I need from my bind zone whilst waiting for a rez. Turns down time into something constructive. Rivervale is a great bind for rangers; Kith has GMs, plenty of supplies in RV, has a high density druid traffic location, with more ports in WC thanks to the wizard spires. You can quickly get to highpass and farm orcs for scalps or idols too if the rez is going to be a slow one.

That wiki page is flawed. The tables aren't quite right though that is where Amiable begins so that's all that really matters. However, there is no such thing as decimal values with factions and the actual hits are +8 Venril Sathir for each turn in.
Assuming you're at the very bottom of Scowls you'll need 257 turn-ins or 1028 braids to reach Amiable. If you're at the top range of Scowls or bottom of Threateningly you'll need 138 turn-ins or 552 braids.
I am not looking forward to maxing this one...

I think it's more for the accomplishment of doing the OT hammer quest myself. Plus it's easy to log in for a few minutes here and there and kill a few zerkers.

At least you've got tracking.... don't forget to clear the knights too.

It would certainly be an achievement. If I were under 53 I'd probably just use such small windows to kite dark blue tigers until either the zone ran out or I ran out of time.
I hope your ranger is named Sisyphus.
