weapon for shaman pet?

Will the doggie dual wield if I give it a couple of rusty daggers?
And if not, would a rusty 2 hander make it hit for more damage than usual?

I'm pretty sure that on Project 1999 shaman pets cannot wield weapons. That might have changed with Velious, but it was certainly true during the Kunark era.

You can check by giving your pet a weapon: if he wields it his damage and attack type (ie. bite) will change.

NPCs with non-humanoid models (with a few exceptions) will not wield weapons given to them.

Exceptions that I'm aware of are some drakes (not wurms or dragons) and devourers

You just know that someone will want to claim that since the Shaman pet has 4 paws, than you should be able to give the pet 4 weapons for 4 attacks at once.

Back in 2010 or so, when I was leveling my Shaman, the pets on this server did weild weapons and could dual wield. I'm glad I leveled him up fast while that was still on the sever lol

I remember when I played shaman on live loads of people told me not to give my pet weapons as it wouldn't wield them.

Well, they were right in so far as they wouldn't be visually displayed, but they would change their 'bite' to pierce/crush/slash as appropriate. Exactly the same as Kobolds and stuff.

I admit this memory is from beyond the scope of this server, but I wonder if back in classic people were confusing 'does not display on model' with 'does not use for attacks'.
