Why does it seem like you swing slower, miss more when you mouse steer (right click hold and left click to move forward) compared to using just the keyboard? Going back years to live it always seemed like there was a noticable difference.

Generally steering with the mouse isn't good. I'd look into getting a cheap steering wheel if you play melee characters and care about dps.

Your attack speed and hit rate actually improve while auto running is engaged. The trick is to continuously strafe tight circles around your target. The steering wheel mentioned above (or alternately a joystick controller) really make this easier.

If your group mates get annoyed just explain that it is actually helping you kill the mob faster.

it because you splitting the game focus on two different things, so it not able to think as quickly. 2 button = half the focus for each.

I've been using a steering wheel on my top parsing rogue for years. Surprised this is only being mentioned now. I thought everyone knew.

Thought I was tarded didn't you?

+1 everyone, years ago on live I would swear to my roommates using the mouse while auto attacking was slowing things down. Hard to tell on my old sk but with a monk it's pretty obvious there is something going on

I remember using the mouse and strafing around to BS the mobs when soloing/pvping on live. you just need a little desk space is all.

The joystick setups used in MechWarrior are also useful if you don't have the Classic USB VGA idk, serial port? Steering Wheel that came with the Ruins of Kunark boxset.

I truly will be amused if I see someone doing that.

It seems the new forum meta is to post misinformation, perhaps in an attempt to return p99 to EQ's cloudy mystique of days gone by?

I started this thread after getting that iksar mask with the negative 20-something Charisma and remembering how we would have endless arguments over if negative charisma helped necros or not 4 days. This is just one of the many things we would have endless discussions about over what was real and what wasn't back when alla didn't have s*** for formation. My roommate playing the ranger probably wore out his Xscape button by hitting his Auto attack on and off trying to get procs

Why does this sound like something sean spicer would say? #alternative facts

Autoattack is serversided and has nothing to do with your mouse.

HOWEVER...

Mouse inputs are absolutely more responsive than keyboard inputs. You can hit a mouse input faster than a keyboard input due to the effort required to press the key. As for 'steering' your character? The only thing that you might run into is missed autoattacks due to the vector of your character on your screen versus the vector of your character on the server. The client only sends a limited number of update packets, so what you're seeing versus what the server sees is not always correct - this leads to missed autoattacks, and the 'timer' will reset. Never will it actually slow down the attack, but if you're not facing the target, you can miss an autoattack round entirely.
