Hi folks. I've been on Project 1999 only a few days and made a Gnome Magician. To mix things up with grinding I wanted to do some quests, but I'm having a very hard time getting them to work. Am I doing something wrong? Don't you "Hail" the NPC to get them to talk to you then include any word(s) that they use that are in brackets [ ] or ' ' in your response to further the dialog? I'm having trouble getting the NPC's to respond or if they do, then getting them to respond to my question or statement about what they said.

I remember in the original days that you had to answer an exact way to get them to continue, but I've tried every way I can think of then finally gave in and checked the NPC on the Project 1999 wiki to see the correct response and I'd done that, but the NPC still wouldn't reply. I've tried exiting the game and getting back on, running in windowed and fullscreen mode (just in case that made a difference), but mostly no luck. Any advice would be appreciated. I love the game and I want to be able to do something besides just grind for levels, but I'm having a heck of a time with getting the quests to work. Thanks for any help you can give!!!

Usually just a "what" before the item is enough. "What bone chips", etc.

Be aware, if you're familiar with the quest, you don't have to go through the dialog each time (or ever), just hand over the items as required.

There is no "quest log" that tracks you doing a quest nor do you need to "acquire" the quest before you can do it, its simply, do you have the items? Grats you did the quest.

could be a faction thing. Evil and Good gnomes both in ak'anon

If in doubt, type the NPCs name into the wiki - usually it lists any quests associated to them and you can fill the blanks that way.

Using "what" before the bracketed word will work 9/10 times....also make sure you're not invis and in the NPC's line of sight fully.

Stand directly on top of the NPC before saying the trigger text. Sometimes NPCs won't respond if you're out of range, and that range varies wildly from 10m to 10mm, NPC to NPC, and even with the same NPC depending on their mood, barometric pressure, and/or the phases of Luclin (and likely the other four moons).

Be sure you have the npc targeted

Make sure w/e you say is in say and not group or something from messing with the chat options

Okay, I'll double check. Thanks Tetsuo!

Oh, okay, I didn't know that. Thanks Squabbles123!

I didn't realize that Mythanor. How can you tell them apart?

Oh man, I didn't realize I need to be in their line-of-sight Swish! I noticed that many times, before I could get the message typed, they'd turn away from me. I wonder if that's the problem. I'll check! Thanks much!

Lol, thanks Bummey! That kind of ties in with Swish's advice. I'll try standing on the son-of-a-guns from now on!

I'll double check that Varren. I usually click on them and then "Hail" them. That targets them doesn't it?

Thanks for all the advice guys. I made sure I had the NPC targeted then pretty much stand on him and it seems to be working pretty well now. Thanks for that advice Bummey!!

I also discovered that I was not typing the responses exactly right. For instance I was typing something like, "I'll deliver the mail for you." and the NPC wouldn't respond, but when I looked the quest up on ZAM I saw that I should have typed "I will deliver the mail for you." I shouldn't have used "I'll" but should have typed out "I will" instead. Man it take so little to mess it up.
