Hear Ye, Hear Ye! Come one, come all to the Royal Rumble in Norrath's Arena just off Lake Rathetear.
This event will be for all players level 46 and higher who wish to participate. There will be an entrance fee of 1000 platinum pieces which will be pooled together as the winning prizes for the last 3 survivors.
Summons will be provided for participants and will begin 30 minutes prior to the event. Please be sure you have everything you want to bring, including your entrance fee!
You will be bound in the arena after being summoned there. Summons and binds will be provided to all cities at the conclusion of the event.
This event will begin at 8:00 PM EST, 2 hours from now.
This event will begin at 8:00 PM EST, 1.5 hours from now.
This event will begin at 8:00 PM EST, 1 hour from now.
This event will begin at 8:00 PM EST, 30 minutes from now.
The rules will be as follows.
All buffs will be removed, and pets unsummoned prior to starting.
Unique items with limited charges may be used, but the effects may not. (i.e. Soulfire, Ivandyr's Hoop, ect...) However generic items such as potions are allowed.
You will be summoned into the Arena at a certain spot. Do not move from this spot until the event begins.
There will be no buffing or summoning period prior to starting, you may buff and summon pets after the event begins.
The entire arena inside of the walls will be used, if the action begins to become stale the playing area may be limited to the raised portion of the arena.
The event will be fought to the last person, however, the last 3 survivors will receive a prize of 70%, 20%, and 10% of the collected entrance fees.
Thanks to all those that participated, and congratulations to Minikin, Beauregard, and Warm on placing in the top 3.
I would like to get some feedback from those that participated, and also that did not. For those that did, what did you like about the event, what could have gone better? For those that did not, what kept you from participating, or what could have convinced you to?
Some things I noticed on my end. Things were.... chaotic. Unfortunately the door is not present on The Arena so I decided to let spectators come in and combatants return to watch the battle after dieing. This may have caused some confusion to those still participating, but I decided it would be better to invite them, than have the try to break in to the event. I'm not sure I will run it again unless I can get a better system set up, or the door is fixed.

Thanks for the event! I had a blast and can't wait for the next one, hopefully with a few more folks fighting.
My only complaint :
When we were all huddled to the platform, players who had already lost the match were allowed on the platform with the remaining combatants. Which resulted in a couple monks attacking my pet and drawing agro on it while I was attempting to down Minikin.

There were only Two Monks that were there, Azerel and Mank (me). While I cannot speak for Azerel, I personally did not attack your pet whatsoever.
As for the royal rumble event..
I enjoyed it, but the mechanics of the game gave huge advantages to casters and left melee in the dust. My only complaint.
Probably will not be attending another Royal Rumble, however, I would consider teams, 3v3 or 5v5.

My apologies in that case. Another player indicated to me afterward that both monks had engaged the pet. I did however see Az attack and other players called him out on it as it happened.
I never played on any of the EQ PvP servers but I think Pallys/Sks have an advantage over the rest of us.

Team events are doable, this first event was just to gage how much of a turnout I would have and get an idea of how hard it would be to run for me. Would definitely have to have better turn out for the team version though.
Had we had more time for planning to be free, I think more people would have participated ;-)
Great idea though, thanks for putting things on like this!

Keep doing GM events of any sort even if it's "Find the Special Bixie". They add spice even if it's a mix of negative and positive spice. Even things like "Wham! You're now a gnome" make people talk and falls into the category of no such thing as bad advertising.
Thanks for doing something! It wouldn't affect me due to my erratic playtimes and low level but trying to give more notice wouldn't hurt either for arena style stuff.

I thought the entry was a bit steep for most players, and I know that a few in my guild wanted to go but didn't like the idea of having to shell out 1k to do it, for some people that's still a decent amount of money to just throw down the drain for a little pvp fun.
The even itself was fun.. until in the middle when everyone was restricted to the platform. I would not have played in the event had I known ahead of time that that rule was going to happen, and I think it ruins it for those of us with alternate strategies (i.e. I didn't plan on actually engaging or killing anyone given the ruleset, but rather running and hiding until I was in the top3 and cashing out). It was funny noting that as soon as the rule was established however that both bards in the event died immediately one after another before anyone else was even engaged I think.
Knowing this I probably wouldn't play in another one of these events, especially if I had to buy in with my own money for fear that a similar rule would take place.
So in summarization: It was fun, a bit steep for most people I think, the arbitrary rule constricting the area ruined the fun for me, probably would not go again.
Edit: I guess that rule about constricting the playspace was announced ahead of time and I just missed it! Should have left then hehe, oh well. :D

I was there as a spectator and yeah, I didn't fork over the 1k cause as a rogue its more or less thrown away, otherwise it looked fun and hope there is a 3v3 and/or 6v6 sometime soon.

What would everyone think about different entry fees for different tiers of participants. Such as:
Tier 1
-250pp
-Allowed full participation in event
-If among winners gets name announced
-Not eligible for money purse
Tier 2
-500pp
-Allowed full participation in event
-If among winners gets name announced
-Eligible for half of the appropriate money purse
--Other half will be awarded to the next tier 3 participant
Tier 3
-1000pp
-Allowed full participation in event
-If among winners gets name announced
-Eligible for full money purse
As for the restricting it to the center, if I don't at some point, we will just have someone running around in circles for quite awhile just prolonging their death. Hiding can be an effect strategy but running forever, or hiding on top of a pillar take away from the intent of the event. What if we set a time limit, so 30 minutes after the start, if the event is still going, it is restricted to the center? That way you have plenty of time to avoid dieing in the first blitz, but are still motivated to take out your opponents in a timely manner.

I would like to do events such as the Halfling High Dive, or Drunken Kelethin Races; however, in order for me to award a prize for something like that I would need a prize for the winner, such as a weight reduction bag, or potions. That would be entirely up to the senior staff if they were willing to provide them for such events.
Had we had more time for planning to be free, I think more people would have participated ;-)
How much time would most people need? My schedule is fairly erratic so I wouldn't really be able to plan something a week in advance, but a few days I could. I would also like to keep it the way it was on live, random and with little notice. It help to keep the population from getting to uncontrollable amounts, and gives some of the more casual players a chance to not get slaughtered by 30 planar geared players. I agree though that 10 people is not really enough for this sort of event.

I think getting to watch is large part of these events as well. The problem comes with interference from these spectators. What if I were to allowed spectators but only on a level 1 character of the smaller races. This way their ability to interfere would be limited. Of course with this, intentionally killing the spectators would be grounds to be disqualified.
As for the time itself, was 8PM EST on a Saturday a good time to host this? I know we have a large population of people spread out throughout the world, what would be a better time to do this at?

K.I.S.S.
I understand the desire to codify rules but keep in mind that the more complex you make things the more work you will have to do. Plus, the more rules you have the greater the chance of attracting super annoying rules lawyers who will decrease your fun until you say "Fuck this, it's not worth it!"

I don't see any reason to restrict participation to people only willing to put in 250pp.
Why not just have an event where the full entry price is 250pp?

The truth is,
The gm took time out of his day to host an event for us. We should be greatful for any event. I don't give a shit how many people got butt hurt. The objection is fun. If you aren't having fun don't go. Its an alternative to the current game mechanics. It brings people togeather and its fun. I thank the gm who ran this. I watched the truth unfold in front of my eyes. I think more events need to take place. I miss the story telling in ec and the other things that use to go on. Please ignore any hate about rules etc on these forums. For we all know the forums are full of assholes to begin with.

I didn't participate only because of the (relatively) short notice that the event was happening.
My thoughts for future events :
K.I.S.S. - yes. simple is better.
Announce a bit further ahead of time -a full day would be nice
Announce any "rules" such as limiting the space ahead of time.
For most classes, I think 3 man or larger teams are going to be more exciting than 1 on 1

Perhaps have level tiers.
5pm - Levels 20-30 (50p Buy in)
6pm - 30-40 (150p Buy in)
7pm - 40 45 (500p Buy in)
8pm - 46-50 (750-1k Buy in)
Yes, I understand this takes a lot of time on the GM's part. Sorry.

I think the next one I will do will be a 3 player team battle.
I don't want to be running these every weekend but since the last one didn't get the amount of participation I had expected, I would be willing to run it this weekend. What would work better, Friday or Saturday night?
Also what does everyone think a reasonable entrance for a 3 man team would be?

500pp per head or 1.5k per team would suffice IMO
