Because it reminds me of that irreplaceable slice of gaming time and internet high speed time (shortly after) that completely blew me away and had me speeding to get home after work every day. There is a part of me that wants to hang onto that nostalgia as long as I can. Quake 2 CTF falls into this category for me as well. When I could not find a group that is where I was at.

I'm big on the nostalgia factor no doubt, I was a Day 1 EQ player and played up to PoP. The reason I originally quit is I didn't want to have to keep grinding for new gear / new levels as expansions made most of my stuff obsolete.

It's kind of how I used to play Magic: The Gathering. An awesome card / strategy game, but if you don't buy the new expansions you get left behind and can't compete. Was all an incentive to keep you buying new cards and keep that money flowing in.

With a time locked server, if I want a particular piece of gear as my 'end set' I don't ever have to worry about it becoming obsolete. If I take a break for 6 months and come back, I won't have been left behind in terms of gear / advancement.

Free to play is awesome as is the online community, feels good to donate some time to update a wiki or help a guildie or whatever.

I like doing challenges in the game too, I duo'd in fear with another monk, and another time with a Druid. It was scary as hell and I wound up eating 3 deaths, but damn it was fun as hell!

Game is still pretty new to me despite hitting 60 on my first character.

This and overall I'm tired of buying into pre release / alpha games that never get touched shortly thereafter. All the mmo's I've encountered either lacked personality (community player base) or once I reached the end game I just faded away( prolly was too easy to get max). Only mmo that held me for a decent time was arena combat wow had during the BC era. I even grinded mob after mob in wow like the EQ grind, those tedious quests never appealed to me, prolly why I'm here.

Yeah, EQ leaves a lot of room for players to make their own fun. Newer MMOs stuff every thing into neat little boxes. There's little room for players to experiment or do unconventional things; and when someone DOES find something to do that's outside of the box, it gets patched out as an exploit or unintended mechanic or whatever.

I never played in 99 but I did on 01 after finally giving in.

I've been coming to the server since the Pantheon kickstarter began and really haven't had a problem with it since. Enjoy the grouping of the game and feel its the only game that still offers grouping as the primary path to progression. Wish uthgard DAoC had more PvE minded players but I digress.

So I stay here just to do some groups. Have taken a bunch of breaks from the server but always seem to make my way back. Hopefully more games like this will be made but we will see.

The reason agnarr is enticing is it forever caps at pop. Once you get the best gear here it won't be invalidated by the next expansion's new caps. A god on p99 is a god until the server shuts down, instead just the next expansion.

i think this is the case for most people. sad thing is i actually own a gtx 1080 and multiple high end computers, yet still played this game.

In all honesty I keep playing EverQuest because it's the only MMO I can have fun in. More modern MMOs are too much of a treadmill, or rather, a long cobblestoned path that leads you where they want you to go. That's not a fun path for me to walk. In EQ, I can log on, go anywhere I want and not feel like I'm not playing 'optimally', and not have to look at the laid-out path at all if I don't want to. EQ offers choices. Other MMOs just offer a straight line that leads down an unfun path.

Progression servers are not free. The free live servers are fucking terrible, gear that has better stats than epics drop off of normal trash mobs.
