View Full Version : Logistics of No Drop twinking

I have decided that I am going to make a tank... Shadowknight most likely...but which ever tank doesn't really matter. That brings me to my favorite thing to do in EQ!!! Twink a new char!!! And I am thinking about going full tilt on this one.
So that got me to perusing the forums for gear recommendations, and for SHD especially, I kept seeing Sword of Pain (NO DROP) pop up. I figure that my monk and a shaman could probably duo ourselves into lower dogs easy enough...then I started thinking of the logistics of getting a level 1 shadowknight into the lower dogs pit and realized it would take a lot of help. I don't think a level 1 could survive the jump into pit (Maybe with HP buffs?) but would probably be easier to just get rez'd into the pit, would definitely need a port out or a necro summons/rez). I guess in theory I could have a necromancer do the rez and the summons out.
Then I started thinking if a level 1 can even get to Velks. Is there a level requirement to enter the zone since Velkator is a raid target?
Just curious to see if there is something I am not considering in this equation here. If I can run a level 1 SK from Neriak to WC, port to iceclad, run to Velks, get dragged to pit, rez/loot/die, then get corpse summoned to ent...is there anything I am not considering that would throw sh!t into the fan?
Also are there any better camps to get a No Drop knight weapon that a Mnk/Shm or Nec/Shm could camp?
The alternative to this is I have a Stave of Shielding on my monk that I could easily transfer and it has a decent ratio (17/28) or I could buy an Ebon Mace. But I think it would be kinda cool to get a No Drop velious sword on a lvl 1
I don't think there is a level requirement, but at level one you will need to run from IC. I'm not sure about the drop either, but think they could survive. Both drops have areas where you can land like half way down. The first, and larger drop, has those slanted walls you can run up/down.
Best bet though would be to get the character down there and park it in the safe room, then just leave it there until you get the sword. The room to the right after you go up the first ramp has no spawns, and at least on my ench I've been able to sit there with a fully spawned LD camp and not get aggro.
Also, a lot of the dogs dont see invis. I've had a few occasions where I was able to run a character through lower dogs to spiders with just an invis, so you could always head down there and clear the see invis with your monk, and then move the alt down using an invis pot.

I do not know if the zone has a level requirement. If it does it means you do this at level 5 or 10 instead, which isn't a big deal.
The Shadow Knight sword is nice because it serves double-duty of also giving you an instant click junk buff and cooldown reset. Getting a level 1 into camp is as easy as either catching velks with no see-invisible spiders up (it does happen sometimes, or you can deliberately kill them) or alternately you can rez the character into camp. A level 1 might not survive the drop anyway, at least without buffs. Getting out means either getting a port, dying under the drop and using /corpse to pull it out (the command ignores Z axis distance), or using a gate potion or gate cap. You can of course also corpse summon or drag the corpse out with another character if you know the route. Point being--there are options.
The Monk and Shaman should be able to duo that camp for the sword without too much fuss. There are a lot of complete healing kobolds down there and the named can both complete heal and gate so be prepared. I don't know of any superior no-drop weapons, and few equivalent droppables, which you could readily duo for.

Could have the shaman levitate him down into the pit now that I think about it. Before we drop I would just need to get the levi and camp him up top. The gate potion is a great ide as well and cuts out a portion of the trip I was worried about (escape)

No levitate in velks.

Lev doesn't work in Velk.
Definitely drag / res in then drag / res out.
There are simply a lot more ressers hanging around Velk than there are porters.
Getting these nodrop twink loots is definitely worth it for the wtf looks people will give you.
My lvl 5 ranger has the AE dagger from HS north and the BFG, always fun to see that small pause after they inspect you, thinking "wait what?"

sword of pain is a cool sword. I remember bringing my SK there on live to loot it. On p99 I picked up a hate sword before i ever got around to it.

So level 1 can not zone into Velks - message says "You are not yet experienced enough to pass through an inter-planar portal"
EDIT: Can confirm level 5 as the min to zone in

Damn. I hate when a plan falls apart. :(
I'm a cleric and I have a druid alt somewhere. Get level 5 and let's do this!

Weird that on p99, Velk's has a level minimum, even if it is only apparently level 5.
I have my level 2 parked in there on live to get the No Drop chest piece off Doljon, and already have his boots and head piece.

I suppose it is a CSR vs classic issue.
Perhaps either live didn't/doesn't have these problems or their CSR didn't care?

Probably was going to train the shit out of people, I leveled with this guy on his monk and he used to pull trains in MM all the time.
If you need any SK tips, let me know.
I made my SK a lady elf just like yours Swish

So wait, if I'm interested in that sword is it possible to just get out there and camp in the area.. then log on and wait until it drops since it's no drop and people can't sell it?
Jaxon

You're incorrect in saying that people can't sell it, because people do sell loot rights to lots of no-drop items. Better to say that it's unlikely to be sold because there's not a large market for it and it takes a little bit of effort to get to the corpse.
Even if you camp there you still have to ask permission to loot it from whoever killed it -- you don't get it by default.

love looting no drop items on lvl 1s
I got the Kedge Keep monk mask and Robe of the Lost Circle at lvl 1.
Was also fun to loot a Gabstik on my lvl 3 wizard, though he died first crack at it when he was lvl 1 due to low lvl aggro range lol

Yep but for best effect hide in the corner and wait til the corpse timer runs down and allows you to loot it. Wait until the player that killed the mob isn't looking and loot it up.

I'm not talking about stealing it, I just figured it was similar to Jarsath or whatever the armor is in KC but I didn't even know the item existed until about an hour ago because I usually brush over no drop stuff when I'm looking for upgrades thinking they are raid pieces.

Your train of thought is correct, however the problem is that Velks is a typically completely vacant these days. You might catch a guild group farming Brood Mother for gems or a duo doing Frenzy Spider, but the chances of a lower dogs group are quite small. Add to that the logistics of getting down there alone while low level....and unfortunately its just not feasible unless you have help from a couple of high level guys who are basically doing you a favor.
I'll update how my exploits go this weekend with getting this item. I got my SK up to level 3 last night, so I will probably knock out the other 2 levels tonight and then orchestrate my coup into Velks sometime tomorrow.

Uh, dont do this. It is specifically against the rules to loot a corpse that you didnt kill if that person doesnt let you loot it.

Gregendek spawns straight out from the drop down and is much easier than Jelek to get to for non-enchanters. Jelek spawns deeper in and is more "rare" in the sense that it is much less common for people to be clearing the PH these days. You would almost have to wait for a group that is trying to farm Kalik and clearing the area, which doesn't happen often anymore. Most Kalik kills are just enchanters or small groups swinging through when they see him up.

I think there are some nice SK boots that drop in Kael Arena (believe level 5 requirement to zone into Kael). Think they are Boots of Dark Passage (+10 MR on those bad boys too), have seen em rot more than a few times.
Also has Giant Scalemail drop there, most just let it rot, may get lucky asking to loot as a noob.
Just looking through other loot there is a Thunder Runed Greatsword, not sure if that is a high in demand item or just meh? Possible rottable? People most likely would need to be doing Vindi tho, so raiders may want it.

How did you end up getting it?
Did you have an enchanter dictate/summon to zone in?
Drag and rez?

How did you end up getting it?
1) Must be level 5 to enter Velkators Labyrinth
2) Group comp I used was Paladin/Cleric/Shaman/Monk/Enchanter - Enchanters are awesome down here because they can illusion and be non KoS... Makes lulling/pulling very easy. Personally I think a 3 man group is the sweet spot but our 5 man made things a EZ mode.
3) Clear the ramps of all Blizzard Stalkers (they see invis)
4) Invis level 5 SK and run him to pit area and camp (this is a safe spot). If you have the kill force to easy clear the ramps then this part is easy. If not then it is a giant pain in the ass. I ended up dying and getting rez'd in the safe zone after some creative training and camping to get the cleric up there
5) There are 2 dogs when you drop in the pit, pretty easy to break in. I was able to drop in with the level 5 taking no damage at any time.
6) When you go up the ramp from the drop in room, the dog at the very far end that you will be staring directly at is the PH. He spawns in the center of a room down the long hall way with 2 others in his room.
7) Dogs are on a 30 min respawn
8) The named does not show a sword graphic in his hand even when he has the sword.
9) Use Leatherfoot Raiders cap to gate out of pit after looting
10) Slaughter monsters with your new weapon
