So... I decided to start my first Necro.

Since my main chars are binded to Freeport, I figured I couldn't start, say, on Odus. So Ak'Anon seemed a logical choice since the run to Freeport seems not too difficult (but for the little jump thru LFay).

So Ak'Anon it is !

My char is created and I wake up in SM. First thing, of course, getting to the Necro Master. Uploading Ak'Anon's Wiki page... Where is that Eonis Mournunder ?
WHAT ??? Is it possible to be farther than all across the city???

After an excruciating run thru this dull landscape, I finally get to the Master.
Turn the sound off. I already can't stand this clicking noise...

I give the letter, get the robe, scribe my spells, memorize them, cast Minor Shielding... and I'm ready to go !

Excruciating run back to SM...

OK, where are the mobs ? The place is as deserted as West Freeport is bustling.
Uploading SM Wiki map...
Hum... the Windmills sound worth seeing. Let's go !

Ah, first mob, a skeleton, con red...
A Kobold Scout, con red...
con red... con red... con red...

IS THERE A SINGLE BLUE OR WHITE ????

Ah, A Large Rat !!
Attack...
You've slain a Large Rat ! You gain experience ! (Yeah !!!)
A Kobold Scout crushes you for x points of damage...
(WT...) A Kobold Scout crushes you for x points of damage...
(WTF !!!) A Kobold Scout crushes you for x points of damage...
You are unconscious...
You've been slain by a Kobold Scout

WTF !!!
Scribe my spells, memorize them, cast Minor Shielding... and off for a corpse run.

No Mob around ?
/corpse
Looting my dead body...
A skeleton crushes you for x points of damage...
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!

Scribe my spells, memorize them, cast Minor Shielding... and off for second corpse run.

WHERE IS THE NEWBIE ZONE ???!!!

At last, I find a place east from Ak'Anon with enough free-sight space to avoid the reds. After a few Large Rats and Decaying Gnome Skeletons, I manage to get enough coins to buy the other 1lv spells.

Back to Ak'Anon. And another long and boring run to the Necro Master.
This time, I buy Cavorting Bones and Siphon Strength.

Cool ! I'm gonna have my pet skeleton !!
Uncool : I don't have a single bone chip for the spell...
Cool ! There's a decaying skeleton roaming around...
You've been slain by Eonis Mournunder

WTF !!! What went wrong ??? What it the Master's pet ???

Scribe my spells, memorize them, cast Minor Shielding... and off for another corpse run.
Another long and boring corpse run to the end of the city...

I loot my corpse, run back to SM...
Where is that not-con-red skeleton ???
There it is !! And there's a bone chip !!

Summoning Pet.... Ta-dah !!!

After a few fights, I finally get more bone chips, a weapon for my pet and enough coins for more spells and food.

congrats, now you're super fuckin OP

I played a totally untwinked ERU enchanter to about level 11 and found myself capable of killing 4-5 blues at a time, and easily handing yellow and the occasional red con

I quit because it was just too easy, felt like a modern MMO with all of my options and power

So, everything is running sort of smoothly now...
Siphon Strength, Pet attack, Melee attack, Lifetap...
You gain experience.

Occasionaly, a red-con pops up in our back that gets me running to the nearest guard while my pet gets blown to bone chips.

You are low on food and drink.
My inventory gets a bit full, time to go to the bank and replenishment I guess...
Back to Ak'Anon. Run to the bank...

This place is so... messy !! Take Freeport for instance, that's my kind of city, clear, no ramps or stairs or whatever obstacle that blocks the view.
So, going for the bank, I take the wrong turn (so to speak) and find myself in front of a building with a big sign....
"Library.. Mecha..nama..gica"

Hum... that doesn't seem to be the b...
You've been slain by Wuggan Azusphere

WTF !!!! OK, I may be a necro but I'm still a caster !! Shouldn't we be on the same side ????!!!!

Memorize my spells, cast Minor Shielding... and off for another long and boring corpse run to the...whatever f*****g Mage Guild.
You are low on food and drink
No kidding ?!!!

Watch out for the f*****g Mage Master, /corpse, loot my corpse and down to the bank I go.
You are low on food and drink
I KNOW !!!!

Luckily (for once), there's a clockwork grocer nearby and I can get iron rations and water flasks in time.

And back to SM for more bone chips, rat meat and gear for my pet.

I don't believe this story, everyone knows non-iksar necros are not viable. ;)

My necromancer at 8 was destroying blues with a greatstaff, vampiric embrace and a pet hitting in the 20s. It was ridiculous. Basically was more of a beast in combat than a 9 sk would be.

DING !!
Level 3 !

I kinda get the drift of this. Of course, I have to summon 3 or 4 pets per session due to the con-reds that keep popping up without warning.

Good idea the Druid circle...
Run there...
Nobody in sight...
A spiderling... con blue... Pet attack !
A Large Spider crushes you for x damage
You are unconscious
You've been slain by a Large Spider

Sigh...
Memorize my spells, cast Minor Shielding... and off for another corpse run.

I'll go back to the Druid circle when there are Druids in the area...

Necromancers are really weak for the first 14 levels or so, just tough it through those levels and you'll be one of the most efficient soloers in the game without any gear.

I also recommend living by Sesserdrix's necromancers guide, saved me a lot of heart ache. It's like the Necromancer's Bible of P99.

It really is. It taught me everything I know, and it is clear when I group with other necromancers who didn't read it. Best guide on the wiki! I have personally thanked him a few times in game for his contribution to improving necromancers on the server. :D

To twink or not to twink... that's the question...

Tola robe (~2k) + any halfway decent weapon + 6ac/65hp rings + lifetaps will get you through the first 20 levels with ease.

https://wiki.project1999.com/Brell%27s_Keg_Popper was what I used, there's probably something better, especially with Velious out now.
