I am a season player who started EQ on march 24,1999. I played consistently until 2004. At this point I quit because I felt Sony ruined EQ. I made a futile attempt to go back last spring and play on the 51/50 server and my favorite thing about it was the classic missions that they offered. Discussed with Mercs and the poor development of the game I quit again.
Since then I had found project 1999 and I have to say, for me, it a very classic experience. Sony, in their infinite wisdom, decided to come out with a progression server that will start with the original three continents then they will unlock an xpack every 90 or 60 days.
I felt it was necessary to share some of my feelings about Sony s attempt to recreate the past. I recommend this: if u play project 1999 and enjoy it do not waste your time logging into this progression server. I played it for 9 minutes. I rolled a necromancer, got my newbie robe and found my way outside. This is in no way a classic representation of the way everquest was. I felt distinguished with Sony s pitiful attempt as it was indeed very weak. They have server wide channel in which I announced " this don't feel like classic". Some clown answered " this is as close as Sony could get it ". During this process I had already started to camp. It has their crappy new graphics, stupid remolded zones and they don't even had the old death penalty. Just put it this way, Sony sucks and they are a poor gaming company. I have a hard time giving these idiots any money after they ruined eq and then tried to rip it off. So, everyone don't waste your time with this weak ass version that is not classic but a bunch of idiots trying to get you re-sub so they can make money.

Give it afew weeks/a month and it would resolve itself. P99 had globe channels as well when it first started. As it stands i believe its still in beta progression, so they getting in game feedback then revamp the server again probably.

No, they're absolutely terrible at their jobs. They couldn't develop that server properly if they were paid to do it. (and they are! lol)

Progression server =/= Classic server.
Fippy is awesome. P99 has its purpose too. Play what you want and quit yer' bitchin.

I jumped in for a few minutes, and the server was lagging so badly the doors wouldn't open and lifts weren't working. Might be worth giving it a week or two.
The worst part for me was the UI - I much prefer the classic Velious look with my few mods, and my WTF folder crashed the game. Meh.

I patched it last week, but I never bothered to log in. The more info I got about the server, the less interested I was.
It's a cool server idea to give current players something to fool around with, and I do think SoE made a good effort, but it isn't what I am looking for.

Wow, I just played for about an hour or so. The experience rate is brutal. It is taking people about 60 kills to go from level 1 to 2. Insane.

Really? Lol. I bet 90% of the server quits before level 4. 2-3 is bad, 3-4 is like a hell level.

Played on it for about 15 minutes. It's hilarious how an emulated version of the 12 year old Everquest is such a superior gameplay experience.
The modern client runs like complete shit with wild frame rate drops in newbie zones without much on screen. It is ridiculously obnoxious just to turn your camera around because it will slow down so much when looking at distant terrain and then speed way up when looking at the ground/walls. The revamped zones all look like bad Luclin zones too.
Then I attack level one mobs. Trivial kills, of course -- until I pull this level one mob which for some reason has something like two or three times the hitpoints and hit way harder, and promptly die to the not-killable-at-level-one white con mob. Nice tuning there.
Respawn with items on death. Start with mediate. Start with maxed sense heading. Start with all your skills capped for your first level. Start with a backpack. A server with even more powerful pets, retarded monk damage, retarded HT damage, more powerful jewelry, marketplace bought +exp potions, and god knows what else. No thanks.
Thank you Project 1999 devs for making the best MMORPG currently online.

Gotta say... the prog server is quite genius from a business stand point.
You have the overly competitive players who, in the hardcore raiding guilds, will be told that exp potions are mandatory to get to the end game quicker, and so you'll have these suckers subscribing (probably multiple accounts) and then buying multiple exp potions on them. Then these people will get to end game, farm it relentlessly, and then be dependant on the REST of the server to unlock the next expansion for them... which could be months.
Sony may suck at running games, but they're quite good at running a business...
I tried logging in, couldn't get in so i gave up.

Thought I should point out that they took HT out of the game. Made it an AA, which are all restricted until Luclin is released. I'm sure once they tune it, they'll put it back out again.
And the experience potions are only +10% experience. That is crap compared to what you normally could get, such as the +50% potions. People want to play their money on that, and gain an extra 10%, it's not going to make a huge difference in the end.

The truth is,
Well 10% more expierence will make a diff. Especially during the higher levels. That means 10 mobs grant 1 free mob of exp. If you add up the mobs based upon level. By the time you are 50 thats a lot of fuckin mobs.... And exp mind you.... free levels...
How much are they chargin for it and duration???

I tried it out and the xp rate is a lot slower than on P99 at early levels (even considering the lack of racial xp penalties on this new progression server).
I am level 3 now with 190 bone chips to my name. Keep in mind that decaying skeletons con dark blue at level 3 on that server and you can see how crazy that xp rate is (since I have done it all solo and most skeletons drop 1 bone chip, some drop none and some drop two this would average out to almost 200 skeletons killed).
It is entertaining but definitely does not feel like classic whatsoever, it feels like Sony EQ live with massive xp nerf and most the game locked.
