So I reroll a fresh toon today, and decide to hardcore him up. No twinky-dinky. Relive the newb experience on P99, so to speak.
How is it? In Gfay:
~Numerous random drive-by buffs.
~People giving away nice newb-starter equipment
~Helpful /ooc
~scores of REAL newbs still starting
~plenty of group opportunities...even until about 3am eastern.
So...the community is solid. STILL having much fun, and that's what it's about.
Kudos once again to the devs. You rock.

Hm, fun idea. I think I may try this out around Qeynos and what not.

True, but i often find alot of the higher levels are a bit too helpful :p
Sometimes it might be hard to have the newb experience when people are /shouting free <something> for anyone under level 10.

Yea, I bet you're as guilty of this as I am. Woops!

The truth is,
I've seen way to many twinks that sucked. I have met far better people with crap gear at playing, than twinks.

This sentence is an abomination.

Heh. erudin/toxx is a wasteland, lol.
Never have apologized to you for raking you over the coals when you first started P99. You've turned out to be one of the better peeps here, imo.
Kudos.

Very true. I've helped a few people quite a bit, but I always watch myself and try to avoid that line of ruining the early experience for them (gave some guy a BS mantle and a cheap deal on ebony bladed swords the other day).
It's a crucial experience to be able to build yourself up on your own, rather than simply having loot handed to you.

Yeah.... but helping out lowbie toons feels good! I'm always giving out gear and plat. No wonder I'm broke!

Yeah, i remember on live, i was a fresh face dark elf noob, hanging around EC side of nektulos forest killing zombies and skellies (i was level 8!) and some guy runs past ... and low and behold he gives me black chitin legs, for no reason. I'm like "thanks". I then go into EC, and auction them, and omgwtfz they're worth like 800-1000p. I had like 5p to my name at the time.
I spent the next few weeks trading the legs for various items like crafted BP's and skull shaped barbutes etc. I was very nicely geared for a level 8... but anyway, the hand out had actually drawn me into the ruthless side of bartering and trading :p and i neglected to level up and explore.

I've been so impressed by the awesomeness of the community on this server it has just blown my mind. People are so thoughtful and generous. I've got some friends coming over and they are excited. I honestly don't have any plans on leaving this place.

Spoken like a true newb, yet to hit the raid scene.

Yeah, and it distracted me from leveling. I did handmade backpacks and bearskin potion bags and banded on my wizard, and made a good deal of cash. However, I got bored and started making a bunch of alts instead of just getting to 50 and making $$ along the way. I made 5k on my necro just hunting guards over the course of 6-7 levels, which was much faster $$ than trying to tradeskill my way there.

i lost all of the 1000p I had by ~lvl 20 originally due to the epic sink hole that is armor crafting. People only want banded for so long... :(
edit: that 1000pp i might add, in relation to the thread, garnered by selling off almost an entire suit of Large Banded Mail, and Small Bronze given to me by some random high level bard during my first 10 minutes in classic EQ

The raid scene will be different by the time folks signing in now get there. I figure Kunark will be ironed out by then.
The way I see it...joining now will be MUCH more enjoyable from a future raiding standpoint than it is/was for the rest of us.

Lmao Corrado.. Not all raiding is guild hate. Though there are some interesting days. Nothing like winning a roll on some bad ass planar gear to make u forget who just trained you. Haters will hate no matter what u do.
I have only found one person that I would like to shove my fist into. No names needed for that low life, lord training scumbag.

Oh, btw - I made my first 500 plat by looting those HK guards you were killing way back in like July or August, before Azeth was 50 :D

Since we're going on a classic, epic adventure, I will note your name the classic way. Pen and paper baby!

LOL I know what the raiding situation is like and it doesn't bother me one bit. I'm just here for the fun grouping adventures and to watch my toon progress! Yeah, I'm going to poopsock it up until Kunark and it would be sweet to be in some raids, but its not my end goal or the reason I'm playing.

As someone who played EQ only back in 1999, although I didn't get too far (my comp couldnt run kunark), it blows me away how I am enjoying the experience of leveling up in gfay/crushbone again. It's not just nostalgia either, although certainly that has something to do with it. The vast majority of people I've encountered so far have been quite pleasant. Can't wait til I can group in Unrest :D
