PSA: Link Dead, 8th Slot Spells, and You!

In the event you go Link Dead while in combat your character will remain in game and continue attacking the NPC. If your character also happens to be a caster, they will exclusively cast whatever spell happens to be in the 8th slot of your spell bar. This can result in some seriously detrimental situations in a raid environment, as demonstrated below.

Example 1: You are a mage with a dispell (Nullify Magic, Cancel Magic, etc.) in your 8th spell slot. As Vulak comes into camp your internet craps out causing you to go Link Dead. Vulak's AoE keeps you in combat and while LD your character chain dispells any Malo/Tash/Slow/Debuffs causing your raid to wipe.

Example 2: You are an enchanter with Mem Blur in your 8th spell slot. As Vulak comes into camp your internet craps out causing you to go Link Dead. Again, you remain in combat while chain casting Mem Blur which is not only against Project 1999 raid rules, but will wipe whatever FTE your guild currently has.

PSA every time I'm playing EQ and get a phone call I make sure to disconnect from WiFi to simulate the classic experience of dial up.

What would be the best spells for each class to keep in the 8th slot?
Obviously skyfire port for wizards.
Tox portal for Druids I guess.
Coth for mages? Monster summoning?

Aoe for mages so you can break all the mezzes while you're ld.

i've only played 1 caster, and it was enchanter, and whenever I could spare the 8th gem I put gate on that shiz.

I feel like LD bards don't. Before clicky legs, I always kept AOE fear mem'd in 8th slot and I've still went LD and died to some trivial shit like a Seafury. If I was chain casting fear while LD don't think that would happen.

On another note, I've witnessed the bard NPC's in the Karana's playing like 1 song every 5 minutes while they weren't engaged. Never saw one use songs in combat though.

Bards shouldn't cast while LD. I plugged a ton back on live and never noticed any sort of interaction with bard songs at all.

Interesting. What happens if a teleport is in your 8th slot? You cannot zone while LD, do you just chaincast gate/port until you get booted?
