Has there been any proof that high Dexterity makes procs/critical hits happen more often? In adition does it make you miss less? I have an Arching ranger that is a blast to play and currently lvl 26. As I approach lvl 30 (backwards lol) should I go all out on strength or try to get above 200 dex (or close) as well? I do have a 30/37 bow. I will start fletching my own arrows soon too. Currently I'm at like 164 dex and 172 str or something close.

Archery damage is based off STR here, just an fyi.

I know that I read Ivory's posts. My question is if Dex plays a role in how many times I can get a crit shot or not miss the mob I'm firing at.

Yes, it's used for crit and hit chance.

TY both for the info

Dex doesn't influence hit rate. It might on red, but red is a custom server. For more info, there was a guild around recently <Value of Dex> but I think they disbanded.

Attack power increase hit rate. STR increases attack power.
dex affects hit rate in only pvp, afaik. Supposedly also affects proc chance, crit chance, bard song fizzle rate, and rate you learn melee skills.

Wep skills and offense increase hit chance, which also increase attack power. Strength and other +attack items increase damage and attack power, but do not increase hit chance.

My accuracy on Vindi is 66% with two non attack power weps equiped. When I equip my epic offhand it goes up to 71%. In no other configuration of weapons have I ever got above 70% without a disc running.

Attack power increase hit rate. STR increases attack power.
There was a recent thread which alluded to this (low hit rate against a bat without boon casted, high hit rate after).
However, I think it is likely this is coincidental, and the tester had not capped the character's offence/weapon skills for the first test, but had for the second, thus giving the illusion +attack improved accuracy).
Does hand to hand have higher skill cap to weapons for monk? this could be the reason for the improvement in accuracy in the situation you describe?
If I am wrong and +attack does improve accuracy that would be great though. More evidence required data data data, I can not build bricks without clay!

Does one of those weapons happen to be piercing?

Possible fail, for some reason I coupled epic offhand with you being a monk?
But as Sam also alludes to, it might be due to a difference in skill level based on weapon type.

Very good info in this thread. My next question regards strength. Does it have a diminishing return after 200? Like say wis and int do. Or do I get as high as I have to so my self buff caps it at 255. Then start piling on the dex.

all stats have a soft cap at 200
i don't have data but that's what i've heard from many bearded necks
Samoht

Yeah, but some stats are worth taking to 255, particularly STR for melee DPS classes (like Ranger) since it is one source of their attack power. They should aim to be 255 STR with buffs.

Wiki say that Dex adds to archery ATK on a hidden value.

But I guess it could be as wrong as any of us.
Someone really needs to make a bro science/mythbusters EQ series

It's broken on p99 and uses strength instead.

Unless you are a warrior - it is my understanding that Dex and Agil are essentially worthless.

Dex is important on ranger for epic procs and bow crits. Beyond that, yeah, pretty useless stats.
EQ's biggest scam was making people think that stats matter. It's all flair to make people keep paying a sub.
Believe IVY proved that STR is the stat that dictates bow crits but this was awhily ago.

Dictates atk with bows and I'd like to see that data again. Should be dex though.

I just spent time and in game money on getting my dex up,, im a monk and want to see my Wu's proc more now that im 35'. So.... "Does Dex help weapons Proc?"

"Does Dex help weapons Proc?"
Yes, but that's not truly useful on a non-tanking class. You would have probably been better served improving your haste or adding STR to raise your average hit. Or even more HP/AC to survive longer. Or more MR to resist fears/roots/stuns.

Ivory proved that, on P99, STR dictates your attack with bows, and DEX affects crit rate.
"Does Dex help weapons Proc?"
A lot of people believe that DEX has no effect on proc rate, but they are just misinterpreting patch notes. Procs are per minute, not per swing, but DEX increases your procs per minute. I used to play with a shaman that would never give me DEX buffs because the patch notes convinced him that it was useless, even though it increases your chance to land a hit (in pvp) and increases your procs per minute (in general).
You can EASILY test this, just by taking off your DEX gear or clicking off a buff and parsing 1k swings. Mob/skill level do not have an effect on proc rate, as procs can go off even on a miss.

Dex improves your proc per minute (not per swing)
Dex does improve your chance to crit (ranger with bow or warrior otherwise)
Str affects both your global attack (chance to hit and hit harder on the DI 1-20 roll) along with modifiers to how much damage you do
Regarding melee dps ... warriors are the only ones who should functionally care about *dexterity* for the proc rate. There are exceptions for rangers with BFG burning trueshot on a named. At that level of gameplay, however, both dex and str are easy to cap with buffs. In general a ranger should care more about str than dex on p99. Even in the case of root/rot/bow kiting, str probably pays off more in the long run.

Did you mean Warriors are the only ones who should focus on DEX? Because Rogue backstab has a STR modifier.

Again, dex for slow procs on rangers is worth gearing for. 50% slow coming from a melee can make or break fights, at times.

Well I'm only concerned with bow crits. I have taken dowm some reds with the bow. I find it fun and since I prefer to go solo it fits my playstile. Was just wondering whether to amass dex or not. Im at 220ish str with lvl 30 buff. I will spend some coin and improve my dex as well til they r both in the 200s. Thank you all for the advice. I have had some nice crit hits and regular hits as well.
