View Full Version : What zone do you ALWAYS have to pull up a map on?

For me it is Butcherblock Mountains.

I can navigate almost all of them without a map, but I always get the basic directions in GFay wrong. For some reason, 17 years ago I permanently ingrained the map in my brain rotated 90 degrees clockwise, and it's what I always remember. Makes me feel stupid every time.

any kunark zone with trees. warsliks is especially awful.

For me it has to do with what zones I played on Live from 1999-2001.

Most of my characters were humans. It's funny that even after 15-20 years later I can walk around certain zones and know exactly where everything is.

Highpass Hold. Even tho I know which direction to go to find the zone lines there are too many damn switchbacks and if I hit a tiny bit of lag, fuhgeddaboudit.

The Feerott so I can find that f$%^*# druid ring.

Also have to pull one up for EJ almost every time so I can find CoM.

My in-brain maps are "wrong" in that they are by no means efficient; but I usually get where I intended to go. My best example is lesser faydark. I had NO IDEA it was so quick to run from SFM to GFAY until I saw a map on alla back in the day... /cry

The ocean zones - OOT / TD

I hate EQ boats with a passion so I never go to these zones unless I am required to. So I always have the map open on these zones If I do visit them because I'm not riding the boat a second time around because I missed something or was slightly off when running Levi over the ocean which has no Landmarks

I typically run by landmarks / memory, and have most zones pretty well memorized (unless I am looking for something specific like a spawn point or something) So running over huge oceans with no landmarks and just /loc spam is less than ideal to how I naturally "learned" all the other zones.

The maze in CT from the wizard spires to the zone line. 100% map is up. 100% feeling dumb

Ha! It's all in the toon you roll. Live/P99. Innothule/Feerrott/Neriak are literally second homes to me. The distant elf isle? Gotta map it every. single. time. Same with lighty lands in Kunark, ie FV

Ak'Anon is close - I mean in live they had clockwork guide robots didn't they? I've played a few gnomes though so for me it's Neriak. I always end up zoning back and forth between (i forget the names) neriak commons and FQ as I'm trying to get outside the city. For some reason I always miss the last turn around the gate and just start the loop again.

Innothule Swamp. I always mix up the UGuk and Feerott ZLs. Kelethin and GFay are a pain as well.

Kedge Keep is by far the worst zone to navigate without a map, IMHO! Also because it is a dangerous zone to get lost in!

OOT or TD because Iksars were never great sailors.

What blasphemy are you spouting? Rile Sathir commanded a great navy built and with it brought the lizards to the sea bringing untold riches and power to the iksar!

OOT or TD because Iksars were never great sailors.

I'm sure I don't need to remind you that it was that very act that brought about our Nation to the attention of foul Trakanon.

Some Iksar dude sailed so far he reached a dragon no one had ever seen before ... and that's your argument for them not being great sailors?

They may have had some Odyeseus's-companions-level bad luck, but that certainly doesn't make them bad sailors.

Our greatness caught the attention of foul wurms. Our power caused them fear and worry. Our strength provoked their meddling. You're right, we should cower on our island and fear the greater beings for their permission is our only survival. /sneer
We fought against an established and great race and brought many of their strongest to their graves, I'd say our end began not with rile but our weakness against their meddling which granted them too valuable information. Cabilis is right of mind to forbid troopers from visiting the tink & babble but does not go far enough, the haggle baron should be tossed out as well lest we fall prey to our weaknesses of coin and pleasure instead of domination and bloodshed.....

Okay I've officially drank too much tonight...

What did you sail on? The only boat I've seen was somewhat lacking in aesthetics...

I give him credit, quite impressive his knowledge and pinnache. Maybe I could like Caiu, had he been a rogue of some sort and incorporated his thieving with roleplay in the game.
