View Full Version : accidentally vendoring my good items

Have you ever accidentally vendored something to a merchant and been unable to buy it back? I have twice in 24 hours. You would think I would have learned my lesson. Nope.
RIP Sword of the Morning and Arbitor's Combine Greatsword.
Can anyone top that?

At this point, I might as well. Luckily, I still have a baton of faith and green jade broadsword. Until I vendor those, of course.
If you have the patience you can buy all the non-recurring items on the vendor , which are usually cheap , and your item will appear again. Depends how valuable the item is you lost - i know if i sold a high value item to a full vendor , i'd buy all his stock.

Absolutely nowhere near feasible on a high traffic vendor.
I've complained about it to no avail to staff years ago.
I'm not asking for easymode buyback, but the current way vendor inventories work gives the person no chance of getting it back because a 50K item would easily hit that price point on a high traffic vendor.

Hmm depends when server reset was then. I bought back from an EC vendor and didnt spend too much , the near tunnel. Cant get more high traffic than that. But i cant remember how close to a server reset it was.
We had a server reset a week ago , i would say all vendors in game are still very managable if you make this mistake. It takes many weeks/months to hit that sort of number.
Killing vendors also clears their inventory right? Not that you would do this if you sold an item , but i know vendors are killed in certain zones and that keeps their stock down that you would have to buy back.

I would too, if I had the plat to spare. I've only been playing for two months, 500 plat is a ton of money to me. I still have a serviceable 1 hander, but Sword of the Morning was the first "uber" item I saved up for. I can farm more plat and buy another one, but it won't have same sense of accomplishment attached to it.

I had this happen too, at the time sold something of high value to me (probably was laughable to the GMs at the time) and sent a petition in. I was told by a GM to try to buy back the items on the vendor, and I would find my precious.
After I burned through half my plat, it was pretty obvious the GMs were invisible standing behind me laughing their asses off at how dumb I was, so I stopped.
You will most likely waste your plats before getting your precious back. Do not do this. Do not send a guide a tell either, because they will not fetch your long lost precious.
Consider this a life lesson on p99 regarding vendors and your precious items. Be carfeful when selling to vendors!

One time, way back when, during original Velious times, I accidentally vendored my Lath Drinor (which was a big deal weapon for me, at the time) and used a Fine Steel Dagger for about two weeks before someone pointed it out for me in an upper dogs group. Oops.

Didn't we just have a thread like this a month or so ago? And didn't someone say that exact same thing ... only to have Cecily buy the item for like a k?
Not sure how "high traffic" this vendor is vs. that one, but just saying ...

Yeah, I said that too. Then Cecily found a JBB on Toxdil like an hour later for reportedly not very much plat.

Well, the guy is hurting from the loss of a 500pp sword, so I am thinking if he has to pour out 1k plats or more it aint going to be worth it, even if he could afford to pay out the vendor.

I let a corpse rot on my 2nd rogue a few months ago in hate , too much hassle to petition , so just redid the epic.
Also wishing Getsome sold rather than gave a bladestopper to a certain vendor in FP

Back when skyfire was still AoEd a friend of mine who was doing the looter role accidentally sold a copy of Call of the Hero to a vendor in Felwithe. He told me about it the next day assuming it was gone. Now mind you at this time that spell was still worth almost 20k. He tells me about it the next day fully believing it is lost forever because the vendor is so loaded up with noob junk. I went over with an enchanter friend for charisma buffs and we turned that vendor over, buying and selling all his items limited stock items. After about 15-20 minutes I got the spell off the vendor.

I once tried to ground transfer my entire eq careers worth of stuff back in 1999 (I was like 13 and it was probably about 1k worth of stuff on my live server). Thought I was in a sneaky spot, standing behind a big ogre NPC to block the view. As soon as I dropped everything, I noticed that said ogre had picked all of it up.
I will forever hate boomba the big.

So blue.
On Red there's traditionally been nobody to answer petitions nevermind restore items.
If you trade your stuff to an NPC its considered the same thing as losing it in a drop transfer-- its working as intended.

Pre-Cylock there was no consistency.
Ex-Guide Moregan was just mass deleting large swathes of the petitions was my guess. I read the petition log and none of those guys (including myself) had received answers to anything aside from corpse summons. I don't think Moregan wanted all the grunt work and thats why he kept asking for higher access and permission.

Llandris said they wont reimburse if someone snatches it, only if it rots.
If your items are not picked up by another player and they just expire, there is a chance you can get reimbursement. It just takes time. Theres only 1 staff member at this time who has access to those logs. His plate is full :)

I did a query against Moregan's logs and saw that I was petitioned several times for the same offense. (a very serious game-world affecting offense, nothing to do with chat/harassment/trolling)
Guess how many times I was contacted/observed by Moregan? 0 times.
He was deleting/ignoring everything on red, and I fucking loved it. Sirks said prior to that the wild west days were over...then we get Moregan. I'm ok with that since it worked in my favor.
I have undeniable first-hand experience that red petitions weren't being answered. If I could go into more detail and tell you to run the query against the logs yourself, you would be like holy shit can we retroactively ban this guy since he is admitting to it?
You'll never get the full story, but I can guarantee you Moregan was doing absolutely no staffing on red and would just log in to clear petitions.

When Jimjam upgrades a tradable item, he typically gives the upgraded item away to the next aspiring warrior he meets, preferably a young Halfling defending The Wall.
A few months back after saving The Wall from some scheming dragons, who surely were planning to invade Rivervale, Jimjam was able to trade a dragon head for some barbed dragons scale pauldrons in the giant city.
Returning to the Fools Gold Inn to celebrate Jimjam filled his limited edition Fools Gold Stein with some Lendel's Grand Lager.
Upon there, I believe Jimjam found another young Halfling warrior. A perfect candidate upon which to dump the now defunct small crafted pauldrons. With much gratitude the quarterling took the pauldrons which he was gifted. His gratitude threw Jimjam off guard, almost falling from his stool!
Months later, while once again making preemptive defence against dragons plaguing Western Wastes for the defence of The Wall and the glory of Zek it occurred to Jimjam he hadn't seen his barbed scale pauldrons for quite some time... and his bank stowed a pair of small crafted pauldrons.
In his stupor of delight and lager Jimjam had given away the pauldrons gifted to him by the giants, instead of the lesser pauldrons he earned many years ago from the centaurs of Karana.
Whoopsie!
I guess Jimjam just gotta go make some more preemptive defence attacks on those glorified iceworms.

It's probably gonna cost fewer man hours for you to just go replace the item yourself. Furthermore you can replace the item immediately without an axe hanging over the issue, instead of waiting 3 months and being told the item was goatnapped.
