Hi everyone.
I am returning after a 2 year hiatus. When I left last, I sold everything on my 54 monk to twink a friend who no longer plays. As a naked monk, where should I go to start acquiring gear or making plat to buy armor? Are there any weapons I can solo to get me started again? Any advice is appreciated.

an hour or 2 in sol a you'd have enough plat to buy yourself a starter wep like staff of battle

If you can find someone who is working on their tailoring for the shawl quest they'll probably be happy to make you a set of Wu's for cheap/free (since they have to anyway for the skill-ups, and they were probably just going to sell the armor back to a vendor for a few plat). I certainly would have when I was at that step, but unfortunately (for you) I can no longer get tailoring skill-ups from Wu's.
Not that Wu's is amazing armor, but it beats being nekid.

I have been able to acquire a weapon and a few pieces of armor thanks to a generous player. It should be enough to get me back to grouping. Thanks everyone for the responses.

Happily monks can still be quite effective with very little in terms of gear. Welcome back!

What he said. Sneak sell to the goblin merchant. Bring a couple gems (peridots) to buy/resell so you're not stuck with tons of copper/silver. If merchant is full with no gems, kill and wait for respawn. The ore that drops adds up quick.
