View Full Version : So your new guild frowns upon RnF - Stay or leave?

If your guild told you that you were no longer allowed to post in RNF or carry on with lively banter in the server section, would you stay or leave the guild and why?

That's one solution true. But eventually it will come out, it's impossible to keep your identity hidden forever.
Most of us have pals that know our ID on forums, and it's just a matter of time before they share that with a pal, who is a pal of a pal in the guild you are in.
If you had to choose to stay in the guild and never partake in RnF or server forum chat hostilely or leave it the guild to carry on your forumquesting, what would you do?

And if the guild requires to know whom you are on the forums for what ever reason. Just have an anom alt account that has built up some modest quality positive posts. Making that account sooner than later is a good idea.
If they ask about forum join date then just tell them your game account is from eqemu.

That's a good idea too didn't think of that; making an alt forum account to post happy postings and gain nothing but good reviews.

If you choose to follow my advice just remember.. It's an act and you'll have to keep you up personas or it will all come crumbling down. No one trusts a liar. Basically never give any indications on the forums, in game or any other form of communication on who you actually are.
I've learned this all from playing eve online.

Yeah that's why I couldn't really do the alt-forum personae thing. I am a awful liar.
It's just too much effort trying to keep up on lies told. Easier to just be honest and forthright.
I had a point in my life where people made fun of me and called me "honest Abe." Ridiculed for telling the truth and being honest. This is a true story btw. :o
I think a guild that censors you is lame, honestly. I don't think I can be part of a guild that has leadership who thinks they can tell me what I write when forumquesting.

Yes they do, and they don't care. If they cared and I felt like I wanted to be a part of them, I wouldn't be posting them. Making an alter ego just to swim in the cesspool of this forum is kinda pathetic. If posting here is that important to a person, that person is probably not the type of person that would fit in with the type of guild that doesn't want their members posting in RnF.
TLDR version: quit the guild or quit posting in RnF

That's just it though, it takes little effort and causes no real issues posting in RNF.
There is no extreme time sink or massive energy use to forumquest.
That's why I fail to see how any guild feels obligated to tell their members where they can post and what they can post about.

Alt accounts are only good for not being you. They want you in their guild they have to understand that you like to talk to people in RNF.
Nothing you say in RNF will or ever will affect gameplay in a negative way and if it is brought up you merely say, "I slay with my sword not my words, if they cut you that deep then you can leave. "

Most are guild wide unless you are an officer.
The rule was really big 3 ish years ago but I feel like it's dwindled down to the lower end guilds which doesn't make sense but then again I'm all for free speech just don't be overly rude

most guilds hit you with a dkp penatly anyway for posting here but some of these threads are worth it, and even if they do hit with dkp its not that big difference anyway 1 raid can make that back up.

yes i remember those sad days. very pathetic. If your guild of elves is banning you from having fun posting on a forum, you should leave them immediately. If everyone left those guilds who don't love freedom, free speech, and expression, we would have a much more lively forum community.
The only people who actually think RNF impacts their EQ experiences are the ones who don't understand the importance of separation of church and state. Of course, I am speaking metaphorically here (this is to confuse the idiots who think RNF posting ban will improve their guild of elves).
Here's the amazing truth. If they don't like RNF, they don't ahve to read it. Then, nothing that goes on in here will impact their precious little safespace brains that can't handle lively banter and avatar-jousting.
I feel very strongly about this.

I can see a guild asking its members to not be perma-troll douchepickles, but requesting no activity at all in RnF is pretty silly. There are plenty of off topic posts that are perfectly benign. And ForumQuest wouldn't be classic without IMPOTENT RAGEEEEE from some folks.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts on the matter too.
I am still surprised at how angry people can get on the forums though, over quite inane things like discussions on gaming mechanics or what race is better than others etc etc.
I suppose if someone is unable to process the forumquesting of others without getting emotionally unhinged, then it is best they stay out of RNF.
Perhaps this is why some guilds make it a rule that their guild members stay out of RNF, just to be sure they have no one loses their shit and totally goes bonkers?

I think it's more about 2 things. #1 These guilds don't want their members making them look bad in RnF. #2 These guilds don't want their members divulging information they're not supposed to or potentially leading to issues where or when staff are involved.
Staff are humans too and they may lean towards a for favorable outcome for a guild that is clean and proper when representing themselves in forum quest.
Just saying..

Guilds that have RnF censorship make up for it with the level of drama on their own forums. It basically ends up a wash.

I cannot fathom why someone would join a video game guild that dictates to its members what they are or aren't allowed to do outside game. How low must such folks' self esteem be?
I don't know whether the guild I'm in now (kittens at the present) has a no-RNF rule because I've never asked about their rules or checked their guild website assuming they have a site. I've gone on raids with 'em a few times....decent folks by and large. If they decide they don't like me and disband me there won't be any hard feelings although I don't see why they'd do so. In the past I've been in guilds with a no RNF rule, ignored said rule, and nobody ever cared.

Good point too.
But there has to be a certain amount of leeway where people are granted individualistic freedoms and dignity.
I just think it's better to let people be themselves and let the chips fall where they may.
If it comes down to a situation where guides are involved and they include personal feelings to sway their judgments when a situation occurs I feel it's better to just deal with that, than to expect people to behave as automatons outside the game.

I lasted 3 weeks under Awakened's facist no RnF policy, then I helped shut down Chardok on an exp bonus weekend for 8 hours during prime time, got another Awakened app suspended for training and subsequently denied, got guild kicked and created an RnF shitstorm which had about 20 Awakened post in RnF including one of the officers that kicked me who personality received at least a 500 dkp dock from multiple hits and had to post an apology letter to his guild. Lawl.
Shortly thereafter, Chardok became the desolate dungeon it was always meant to be and Awakened lifted their RnF ban allowing Taken retards back on the forum. Like Saint Catherine, my sacrifice paved the way for a better game and I thusly proclaim myself to be henceforth known as Saint Cecily.

Trolling guild recruitment threads (that aren't on [deleted] ) is a bad idea and I wouldn't recommend it.
The only way to get Aftermath involved is an Aftermath mud slinging match. Worked on BDA during Kunark to the point where they batphoned the forums and posted in droves to blur the facts with propaganda. Man I love you guys more and more. I always thought you were a weirdo (like me) if you didn't enjoy voice coms.
I have never, ever enjoyed voice coms on EQ, EQ2, or ANY other MMO period. Even on PVP games, it always annoyed me. I played SWTOR, and some PVP dudes would mandate that you join their voice and I HATED it. I rather suffer the slower communication via typing than use voice to target faster.
Why? Because when you were not in battle, you had to hear people talk about everything I logged in to not hear about. Work, jobs, bad family, favorite foods, etc. etc.
Honestly I have always liked MMOs for ther ambience of the games, it allows me an escape from people. Having voice coms on, that removes all escape and immersion for me. I find voice coms extremely distracting.
I understand for strategic reasons why guilds and MMO gamers like it, but the social aspects of voice coms ruins the sole reason why I log into a MMO in the first place.
If I want to socialize with humans, hear humans talk about BS I either call someone on the phone, or go meet them in person, or write them letters/emails.
I don't use a MMO and voice coms for that.
