Is it legal to sell character names?

So I realized that way back when (2010), on a second out that a rarely play, I created characters to "lock up" some names that I thought were pretty cool. However, I rarely play those characters. I kinda started in fall of 2010, quit a couple months later, then picked the game up again here in June 2017.

If someone else were to think the same names I have "locked up" are cool enough, is it OK to "sell" them the name (delete my character) for in-game pp or gear? I did do a tiny bit of looking around, and didn't see anything about this.

I guess I should also ask the question of if that could even work. Can one person delete a character, and someone else create that same character name? And if so, is it "legal" to sell the "rights" to that name? If it's not allowed, I 100% will not even try it (hence why I'm not posting any of the actual names yet).

Most of my cooler names are on Red, but still, I'm just curious. Is this a thing? If not, am I allowed to make it a thing?

Seeing that your live name was "Toomuch Twohandle" I am concerned that the names you have locked up may not be of any value. That being said, I have been extremely frustrated with my character names and they are pretty bad because I have had to try 1,000,000 different things until I give up and try names like "Fettuccine." You may be on to something here.

Could you please share the names and we can have our forum analysts discuss the worth of such names?

Someone else did this, and GM's ruled it ok. It wasn't that long ago but I can't think of what to search to find it. If memory serves "the litigator" or whatever his forum name is was involved so may try searching his post history if you can find it.

That said, GM's may have changed their stance since then.

Edit: Think I was mixing up two different threads, the guy I was remembering the GM's approving in the thread had names not involving "Dial" for sell, but here's Litigator selling "Dial" related names last year.

Our firm has dealt with these transactions before, name values are low. There are so many names to pick from you must have an extraordinary name in order to attract a buyer.

Relent Less is a remake of alt character from Live. Was leveling up the character and having a blast with bard before the pvp servers all merged into "Zek", and I quit right before that.

I always kinda wanted to have had a bard be my main in the first place, and thought "what if?..." about my alt Relent Less. So yeah, not the coolest name ever, but considering the server I was on (Sullon Zek, the 'no rules' team pvp server, which allowed training), and the class that it was, and the underdog team that I was on (good team), it felt like a good name at the time. SZ raid scene had turned into trainwars, and I was prepping to do some serious battle... think I quit when he was level 51, and SZ was dying and about to merge into Zek anyways.

Anyways, I know you were only mocking, but the name Relent Less is definitely not for sale. :)

Basically I made the name when I was in one of my more immature moods, and got a chuckle out of the name being accepted, and that was the end of it.

If someone legitimately wants to have an alt name Penith, let me know. I'd give that one away for the lolz of seeing someone running around with that name :D

Red druid is named "Shifty McGee". It's a name I picked up in my wow days, playing a druid there. It's also a name I use in LoL.
