I've been re-watching it recently because my wife hadn't seen it, and we just finished season 4. I remember 5 not being as good as the rest, so I've been a little hesitant to start it, but it's such an amazing series overall we'll probably finish it soon.
Also I love the pics. Omar, Bubbles, etc. are all such amazing characters, and their actors were all equally incredible. There's definitely a reason why so many critics have rated it the best TV series of all time.
EDIT: Frank was awesome too! Ziggy annoyed me, but I guess that's the point of his character.

Anyone been watching The Deuce? It's by the same guy that made The Wire, has a ton of The Wire actors in it like Frank (not sure what his real name is). So far the focus seems to be prostitution in the 70's. First episode wasn't that good but seems like it's getting a lot better the last few episodes. It's not The Wire, but pretty good for 2017 TV.

Yeah the two shows that were said to have revolutionized the idea of a "premium TV series" or what a TV serial could be was the Sopranos and The Wire.
The Deuce is exactly about prostitution and NY hustle. Its ok, but its a character show. Its not about plot so much as its about capturing the 1970's New York when prostitution was raging.

Would I take Season 2 of Vinyl over The Deuce?
Probably. Vinyl did have some type of plot. AND dat Olivia Wilde... Wish it didn't cost 100 million dollars to fucking produce a season. Vinyl ratings were considered tragic.

Avon would have to be evil.
And Marlo is not chaotic, he is actually quite meticulous.
Also, McNulty is arguably neutral.

Also, McNulty is arguably neutral.
Avon helped Cuddy with his gym and did some similar stuff that could justify him being neutral. I sort of agree about Marlo, but he was constantly rebelling against the established order (not just of the law, but also Stringer's co-op) and killing people even when he didn't have a good reason to.
I think there's a much better case for McNulty being chaotic neutral. One of the central themes of the show as that neither side had a monopoly on morality, and in a way both he and Avon had the same alignment: they just played for different teams.

I would def place Bubbs in the Chaotic Good and Mcnulty in Neutral Good. Bubbs straight up steals shit on the reg but he's a good guy at heart, where'as Mcnulty may buck the system, but he's still a cop which is inherently lawful. The compromise is neutral.
So far, Marlo seems Chaotic Evil mos def. He aint fuckin with no law man nor with the organized cartel as per my man Stringer's plan.
Not that I know any o dat nerd ass shit you feel me dawg i just picked this shit up from some white bitch i beat down for a g pack

Be curious to see if you change your mind after you finish the series. McNulty is even more chaotic than ever in the final season (after calming the fuck down a bit in season 4), and Bubbles ... well he's not a bad guy, but if you push him far enough ...

I know everyone loves Season 1 with the Barksdale Crew and Season 4 with the kids, but Season 2 is underrated. I love the character of Frank Sobotka and the story of the death of the blue collar community in Baltimore is so well told. Tragic.

one of the dock workers appears homeless in a later on season which i obviously missed until being told was another example of interesting story telling techniques used in the series
and snoop was just a bad ass character too in the hardware store

Snoop was believable cuz she was living The Wire IRL. She was in prison for murdering someone when she was 15 before she was on the show, and she got indicted for a big heroin conspiracy after the show was over.

I definitely think the Wire hit on a big ass truth wit the death of blue collar re robotics revolution. It's a huge issue facing the international community even more these days. I wasn't as big a fan of s2 until the last ep when I truly loved Frank's shenanigans with the police van.
Then you have The Bunk, who arguably had the biggest cock on the show.
And ya BUNK the BUNK my NURGA. I love this guy, maybe the most. He's also an incredible drunk actor

I think there's a much better case for McNulty being chaotic neutral. One of the central themes of the show as that neither side had a monopoly on morality, and in a way both he and Avon had the same alignment: they just played for different teams. That's fair enough, I understand the placement of him in Chaotic Neutral, but he also ordered the hits of many innocents. Like the "working man" that Bird shot, and the torture of another character. Just couldn't personally place him anywhere out of the Evil category.
Ultimately though, alignment systems aren't really applicable to real people, and the Wire characters are so layered and developed that they fit that bill as well.
Be curious to see if you change your mind after you finish the series. McNulty is even more chaotic than ever in the final season (after calming the fuck down a bit in season 4), and Bubbles ... well he's not a bad guy, but if you push him far enough ... McNulty went off in the final season, no doubt was chaotic in that season. Without a doubt the most interesting thing of the weakest season.
I know everyone loves Season 1 with the Barksdale Crew and Season 4 with the kids, but Season 2 is underrated. I love the character of Frank Sobotka and the story of the death of the blue collar community in Baltimore is so well told. Tragic. Yup, I still think Season 1 is the best, but Season 2 is criminally underrated.
Nick and Ziggy were very cringy to me though, and really dragged down the season. Especially Ziggy. God what a nearly unwatchable character.
The Corner mini-series is good too. It was kinda like the prequel to The Wire, made by the same guys, based on true stories, and the book was legit too. The Corner is good, but incredibly depressing compared to The Wire. Seeing Lester as a dope head was pretty funny though.
The back and forth between Jimmy and Bunk was magical. Best chemistry on the show.

Season 5 was low on the spectrum for The Wire standards. However, the series finale is fantastic and redeems most of it.
Plenty of characters have very gripping endings: Michael, Dukie, and Bubbles.
