I watched a few streams on Twitch and it looks fun as hell. Might have to pick up a Switch just for this and BoTW.

How is the switch overall? wish they made a straight console without all the mumbo jumbo. Always been a pc person but when my brother and i had a console it was a nintendo! love me snes and n64.
PS. how does the snes classic NOT have chrono trigger wtf!

"Nintendo fanboy" here - just recently tried switch - good first impression, although its not the console I was "praying" for.
Shouldve built upon Wii U, with a more lean and capable touchpad, compatibilty with wiimotes(great invention), stronger hardware and media licenses. New brand name also.
Interesting to see what the N64 VC games gonna looks like on switch... they looks alot better on Wii compared to wii U

N64 VC is nothing to look forward to. I still have my N64 and I can tell you the games did not age well at all. There are exceptions.. but that generation of consoles are honestly awful to go back and play. I would look forward to SNES and even Gamecube a lot more.

I went back and played Legend of Dragoon on PS1 emulator earlier this year and its a god awful piece of trash in 2018. Back in 1997 or whenever it came out I thought it was the best game I had ever played.

i missed out on Zelda 64 growing up because I got sooOoOO tired of waiting for N64 games to get released vs the humongous PSX library
so i finaLLY tried to play it this past winter and i just couldn't pick it up again after making it past the beginner dungeon
I can do SNES NP however, many greats are works of art

Play N64 VC games on wii ,https://m.youtube.com/watch?t=298s&v=vy2kghxC2SY
they look immensly better(480p) than N64 hardware. (The antialiasing on N64 ruined it, if u mod the n64 to shut off antialiasing it will look like ps one )

n64 zelda isnt really actually good.
HEY LISTEN is super anoying and the game basically has that n64 black shadow all over it.
its just a medicore zelda game'
now the minish cap? thats the jam
also shadows of the empire is a+ as far as n64 goes

Ocarina of Time not actually good? Thats the first time ive heard someone say.
The antialiasing on N64 was bad and have aged horribly, its not the games fault - try wii VC instead(or emulator)
Banjo Kazooie best N64 game
ALttP best zelda - snes best nintendo machine

Played Mario all this weekend. So far my favorite cap steal has been the flying goomba. The flying is top notch. Game is hands down a must buy.
Also, Ocarina of time was an amazing game. Even more so because it was the first 3d Zelda. So to say it wasn't a great game is kinda funny.
wait, because something is kinda mediocre but the first of what every game would do (become 3d) is enough for it to be a great game?
That means that castlevania 3D on n64 would have to be a great game too. It is far from.
Ocarina is an ok game, but great, idk thats a little much. And considering its the first 3D zelda, the fact that it is just an ok game, makes it very disappointing imo.
Just take the ambiance of a link to the past, and compare it to the ambiance of the n64 one.. the snes one is superior by far. The story, characters, environment art, everything is just drastically more charming. And I'm not even talking about technical limitations being a hurtle that prevents the n64 from aching the same quality, I'm talking just straight up appeal of the characters/style/storytelling etc
The designs, are just better.
That rainy night the game begins on is > any moment in the n64 Zelda.

SNES Zelda feels like the last great Zelda to me as well. (Then, the GameBoy one!)
3D Zelda took too long to come out and when it finally did; I was meh oh look another 3D game of the era with a Zelda graphics mod.

Kinda agree. I think that Ocarina of Time was good for its time. I went back on my N64 emulator to play the game, and I actually went and picked up a N64 USB controller from MicroCenter to have a better experience since the N64 controller was so unique. I lost interest in the game after sneaking into Hyrule Castle to meet Zelda for the first time.

if you haven't played the minish cap (not sure if this is the gameboy one you were talkn bout lulz), and are a fan of A link to the past, then I strongly urge it! Its one of my favorite zeldas, in that 1. its just like a link to the past but 2. its HUGE! There is a real feeling of a living world. Alttp feels great, and is huge, but this one is huger, and just feels a bit mroe alive, there are more NPC's and side quests and stuff to go on that really make it feel alive.
Anyway, you should play it on an emulator on your PC or on a gamecube with the GBA atachment, so you can enjoy it on a full screen. Games are better on the big screen IMO than on a handheld.

A Link to the Past is still amazing to go back and play. Most 2D classics have stood the test of time. Sadly those early 3D classics have aged horribly. Ocarina of Time was great when it came out but it's better to just let it stay as a good memory than try to replay it.

new Mario seems pretty medicore thus far. I am only a couple of hours in... I think I have like 55 moons? Its so dumbly easy that I am not really sure what is going on. Maybe it gets harder? It better. Would make sense for it to start slow and get tougher, but I am starting to think this is just the game since I am on world 5ish

Link's Awakening was the last 2D Link I got to experience
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rXWqFO75IZY
My reservations were similar to a few posts above regarding when I tried to play Zelda:OoT for the first time early this year. First dungeon was cute/neat, but became uninterested by the time I reached Hyrule castle. I don't know why I can revisit SNES stuff but it was painful to visit Z64 finally. Guess 20 years too late is, too late.

I mean to be fair, the n64 kidna sucked.
I didnt have a ps1 until after I got an n64 for Christmas.. about 2 weeks into it I was like, fuck it lets go to target and i bought my first console with my own money, the ps1 where I played thousands of games.
vs like 13
whats really sad is the n64 mario is still the best while the n64 zelda was not nearly as much of as a shocker.
I mean, if n64 zelda, was mario64 without jumping but with swords it still woulda been a lot better.
instead of the extremely limited tiny world with 3 enemies total, that we got.
I mean just the Mario 64 pyramid level > more than half of OoT
alttp randomizer go it's good
dats cool I might do a play through with that.

You cucks have really derailed this thread with N64 and Zelda talk. I am still wondering if there is something I am missing about this game (MARIO ODYSSEY), it seems you can get through most "worlds" in literally 10 minutes
a lot of hate for the n64 here! it's one of my favorite consoles ever! maybe i have rose-tinted classes?

I do too, have rose colored classes that is. I love the n64 but if you sit down and chew the data, you see that its your nostalgia that you love most and the wake of mario 64 (which today is still one of the best games ever made) that make you think its as good a system as you do.
But what the fuck do I know, I like ps1 and EQ

The main story only takes around 15 hours to complete. I don't want to spoil anything but just wait until after Bowser is defeated. There is a vast end-game after the credits roll and that's where a ton of stuff unlocks, including a pretty big surprise.

im about as cooked as mick. i dont think we remember stuff like that, but I remember cruising in the Slave 1. I remember the secrets and reading the secret guide but no memory of completing any except the Flame thrower? Or some type of energy weapon. I remember thinking "this game is cool as fuck, its like a playstation game for nintendo. nintendo doesnt have these games lol. why did they release this exclusive on N64? who conned Lucas Film into this deal"
I remember a ton of secret weapons and hidden easter eggs in that game. Also I remember the Sewer? level was atrocious and I had to keep replaying it over and over again. game was overall hard as fuck and you had to keep restarting at the beginning of the level. No saves allowed.
I can get it on emulator right? Deserves a run-through for nostalgia sake. I want to see if the game is as hard as an adult as it was when a kid. game is hard enough ill prolly ragequit in a day. i think it had cheats hard coded into the game though, hopefully.

"HUGH!" haha so good
fun fact, I have still not actually beat this game.
When I was a kid, I wanted to 'get my monies worth' out of my games, so Id play on the hardest mode available. Challange mode in this games case.
It was great, extremely challanging game (oh btw I also was 100% on challange points as I made my way through to this sad ending) and extremely rewarding.
however... the second to last level was, some crazy industrial planet, I cant remember exactly. But, it was a VERY challanging level, that took about 25 minuets to get through.
When you die, you lose all your chalange points, so there are NO checkpoints when you play on the dificulty that I set myself up for.
The final boss for that level was some type of droid, that had 3 stages, the 3rd stage had some sort of beam that it out of his face.
This beam, came at you IMIDIATLY at stage 3, and did 100% of your life in damage in less than a second.
It was SO FAST after about 9 or 10 atempts (which is HOURS of playing that same level over and over) I could NEVER figure out the patern, I couldtn even see it, it was like BAM STAGE 3ANNDYOURDEAD start over.
I gave up.
I played it at my friends house, who was playin on medium who had the last level saved, it was a space ship flying level, which were natoriously easy (even on challange mode) and I woudl usually beat them first try without even struggling.. so I knew, all i had to do was beat that fucking industrial driod and I woulda beat the game.
but I never could.
So now I guess I gotta get myself an N64!
PS also same thing happened to me with metal gear solid, that final boss is IMPOSIBRUE on hard mode.. but the game is a BILLION times better, without a mini map (a big difference between hard/medium in that game)
I spent years trying to beat that thing, never could, gave up. So i guess I get to play that game again.

Also I remember the Sewer? level was atrocious and I had to keep replaying it over and over again.
lol was it the sewer train? youre like on a train, when you jump you lose ALL YOUR FORWARD MOMENTUM so like, if you jump, the train moves foward, but you stop as it rolls under you, until you land, then u move with the train again lol.
you had to like time your jumps and shit so you didnt like just end up with the train driving off without you while you land on the tracks and die from literally just doing a little bunny hop.
shit was hilarious.
