View Full Version : Grouping issue

Hello. I play a barb shammy and my friend plays a half-elf rogue. We always play grouped, but because of the extra experience a barb needs to level, my friend is leveling more quickly than I am and this is unacceptable to us.

So first, is there a way to turn off getting experience that my friend could use periodically? (Seems to me I vaguely remember something like that from some game).

Or are there good places to hunt all the way up that have item turn ins for xp. I.e., until recently we were hunting bandits in West Karana and we could let my barb get extra sashes to keep us level.

We've also tried ungrouping and letting her help me kill things and that works, but feels awkward.

Or do you have other suggestions? I realize it might be a tad OCD to insist on being exactly the same level but it's as we've always done it and would like to continue doing it.

Thanks.

I thought they did away with exp penalties?

They did away with class penalties. Racial penalties still exist.

After I posted it occurred to me that my friend could just attack a red and deliberately die every now and then.

Everquest 2 had a feature that let you turn off experience. In fact, you could select what types of experience you wanted to turn off: just quest, just killing mobs, just exploration experience, or any combination thereof. I don't know of other MMOs that may have the feature, though.

I suppose you could make some sort of morbid game out of your friend's dying to red mobs. "How long can I last against this mob that will for sure kill me?"

Barbarian has 5% penalty, it might seem significant now but once you guys are 30+ that will not be very significant. The rogue may be ahead of you, but the level difference will never make it so you can't group with eachother... In some ways it's not so bad, because having a tad higher level melee tanking/dpsing with you will make killing things easier.

Just curious, what level are you both now?

She dinged 23 while I was halfway through 22, which is what gave me concern.

I suppose if she never gets more than 2 or at most 3 levels higher than me it's no biggie, but I wouldn't like more than that.

If I got 3 levels higher than her, I'd never hear the end of it. :)

Yeah the difference will never matter at all.
Although my advice is to delete both your characters and then remake a barbarian shaman and a barbarian rogue. Problem solved!

EDIT: btw this was a joke, just in case.

Ahhh you worrying over nothing. Even as lowbies she barely much over you. Not a big deal it's fairly impossible on p99 to keep your levels the same unless you same race and die equally, and kill exactly all the same mobs. That's hard to do.

Once you're both level 51, or even moreso 54, the difference will just vanish. Most of the experience in the entire game is spent going from lvl59 to 60 (at least if you include 54 too).

If there was a level difference greater than 1 at that point it would definitely shrink to below 1, and stop mattering entirely.
