Didnt official legacy servers in EQ have lots of non-classic elements stuck in older worlds like spells for hybrids at level 1 and spells every level for everyone?

I understand that its two different companies and stuff but dont get your hopes up for a 100% legit nostalgia ye elden timery time good feel stuff.

also ganna take a bet because Activision, the idea of paying 60 dollars + 15 first month sub might also be a thing

Is shit classic? Or will they cut corners.

It will use a modern client, presumably.

This is what I'd like to know. The client change from vanilla to burning crusade affected several aspects. Off the top of my head.. talent trees.

This is what I'd like to know. The client change from vanilla to burning crusade affected several aspects. Off the top of my head.. talent trees.

Along with the complexity of the addons they allow players to use now. Just like Classic Live EQ when the internet wasn't super fast and people didn't know everything. Versus modern day P99 where we use a more modern client and have information at our finger tips. That greatly impacts the end user experience.

Another thing is will they use the classic models or allow people to use the new WOD models. (classic vs luclin ;) models)

And we could go on to even talk about the state of gamers now vs back then and what affect that has in how things shape out.

dslaybac
11-03-2017, 07:58 PM
If it aint original talent trees and models etc then they are wasting their time. And no reason for heirloom items either. I hope they keep this 100% classic.

Dude Rogean you have to try it. Vanilla wow was so much fun!!

World pvp is dope!

p99 will die from neglect

My guesses, having followed Nostalrius and Elysium as a brief participant and onlooker:

1) they'll use classic models. WOD models would clash with vanilla art and they are too good at art for that
2) no heirlooms, for obvious reasons. Heirlooms are good for speeding thru trivial content but when leveling to 60 is not trivial, seeking items in azeroth is important.
3) they will wire in to current client. I guess this because it would be a bad business decision to take players out of the main wow Portal. They don't want you to really forget about live wow.
4)barrens chat will be barrens chat
5) lots of minmaxing, similar to p99, from vets. Non minmax combos will only be rolled by noobs and edge Lords. This will diminish the classic feel.

Valakut
11-03-2017, 10:41 PM
my guess is they will massively underestimate demand and there will be never ending server stability issues. That coupled with an overwhelming amount of RMTers and boxers which will ruin the economy before it ever even begins.

it's nice in theory but unless they can come up with classic solutions to classic problems then it won't remain classic for long. it will evolve into non classic just as it did the first time around.

They better not make Rank13/Rank14 gear buyable with honor by any rank like they did in late-vanilla. I quit over that.

WoW Vanilla is extremely easy as far as raiding goes (see Elysium), so dont get your hopes up. The leveling is the fun part.

Also itll likely be ~$15/month

Classic WoW through WoTLK, short of Trial of the Crusader patch, was something I really enjoyed as there was a sense of server community and player responsibility for their reputations, much like what we have here on P1999.

I'm playing. I feel bad for all the current retail kiddies that hate the idea of classic as it would involve developing actual social skills. They can always work on their garrisons, train vanity pets, and collect more Legendary components right where they are. Unless they get the wrong ones and they re roll entire characters to try again.

Nothing like the good, clean feeling of leading a group of level 18 Horde pals up the STV coast in a fresh server, heading straight into westfall and SHREKKING all the alliance before they can zone into deadmines.

then when they call in their high level incel lords, you just zone in and run DM.

I will probably play to mid 30s. Can't wait to hang out with Llandris as we mercilessly gank night elf scum caught ERPing in the Deeprun Tram

WoW through WoTLK was fun. But playing on p99 has showed me what a mistake it would be to ever think I can go back and play that game as it existed then. I seriously doubt it would be 3 weeks+ before someone hit 60 like on my server live.

What is interesting about this is it seems that the game industry is moving the way the music and film industry has. You make a hit, and then you do ever damn thing you can to milk that hit for all it is worth. The new model will be all popular games that are expanded upon and remain popular for years, will then release a retro "progression" server where people can relive the hit game on fresh servers.

Does the last part really apply to this considering how much people have been calling for this and all the private server bs? Blizz seemed to resist the idea at first. This feels like them listening to fans rather than milking their game.

A part of this came from the Nostalrius data that the staff members presented to Blizzard during their conference. At its peak, that private server was clocking close to 18-20% of retail WoD total sub numbers from the NA+EU Nost accounts created with ISPs matching those zones. When you consider this was a volume of first world players that first had to learn about the project and then be willing to jump through the hoops to get it to run on their machines... that was more than just a considerable amount of customer interest.

I give Nostalrius no praise. Certain staff members were completely corrupt with their gold farmer dealings, taking profit off of an open source project and literally giving almost nothing back to the open source community until after they were shut down, and only then after individuals leaked the core unofficially. The impact of their experiment however was massive.

This is a glass half-full / glass half-empty sort of deal. You can claim that the film industry and music industry is just doing the same thing: Responding to customer demand.

In the long run however, people have a habit of asking for more of the same right up until they are sick to death of it. As Henry Ford once said: "If I asked people what they wanted they would have said a faster horse." Sequels and 5 different remix Music releases do give people what they ask for. But the truth is -- people want new inventive shit and just don't ask for it.

Innovation is being passed up on however, because it is much higher risk than just doing what is proven to work.

As much as I adore vanilla wow, it totally takes over my professional life. The only addiction problem I've ever experienced came from freaking nilla' wow. So, for my career's sake, I'm going to *try* to stay away. Very exciting though! I'm glad Blizzard has finally listened to their fanbase.

Lol at running DM at level 18. Do you head to WC at 20?

Do you have trouble doing content at the appropriate levels or something?

http://vanilla-wow.wikia.com/wiki/The_Deadmines

http://vanilla-wow.wikia.com/wiki/Wailing_Caverns

looks like 18 and 20 are both well within level ranges.

Please tell me truly why you are so mad?

They should do what Runescape did:

1. make a classic server with a few minor QOL changes,
2. keep the content classic/timelined for X amount years
3. then introduce brand new classic-style content that was never seen before. This can mean harder raids than Naxx3.0, harder dungeons, etc, something to keep the server going if it isnt a progression server.

It'll be ran entirely by a separate team, separate developer team, etc, just like Runescape.

It's important to remember that progressing through Molten Core, BWL, AQ40, etc, is extremely easier a decade+ later. They will need to do some customizing in my opinion to keep end game engaging to their players.

I also figured this would be free with a subscription, but other forums are hinting that it would require a recent/upcoming expansions to access classic, hmmm.

Van cleef is a 20 elite with 4 adds that are 18-20 elites as well. Good luck doing that at level 14 or 15 buddy. Maybe you are confused with the current iteration of crappy wow?

When I ran DM pugs on Nost/Ely, I wouldn't take anyone lower than 18. It not as a cakewalk as you'd think, especially in vanilla.

skarlorn
11-07-2017, 11:01 AM
Level 18 pals is an off handed generalization.

Generalizations are used when it would be inefficient to state the exact scope of a target object. For instance, if I had written "brought fellow hordies who are between the levels of 15-20 and may be close game friends, new acquaintances, or even random who are interested in the following activities," it would have been both uneccessary and over specific.

Seriously hopes this explanation aids you in future communication.

Im ready for classic wow!!! Been watching popular streamers who are advocates for vanilla reactions to the announcement and it just brings a tear to my eye. I never thought it would come. I had a 60 war and rogue on Nost when it shut down initially and i was super sad. I have been avoiding it mostly since then for fear of losing all that progress again. Super stoked for a server that isnt going anywhere!
