Whats your favorite place in p99? Your favorite places can also be in Kunark, and Velious.

My favorite place would have to be: Either Old Seb or Thurgidan B, killing those dwarves was too much fun

My all over favorite place is the East Commonlands tunnel. I loved personal trading in live (for as long as it lasted) and it's a great draw to me on p99.

My absolute favorite location for classic EQ through Velious:

- Classic : Unrest - I love this place. I am a paladin. In live, every time I leveled, I'd go to Unrest and gut the place as a celebration. Sol A is a close second.

- Kunark : Mm. Tricky. So many good places. Oddly enough, I really thought Warsilik's Woods was a fun zone. Visibility is short due to trees and there are a lot of fun little treasures to be had in the zone.

- Velious : Thurgadin. I'm a dwarf paladin. I love that place and the introduction of ambient sounds beyond zone music. I still remember stepping into one of Thurgadin's "pubs" for the first time and hearing the background noise of voices and clinking cups and dishes made it more alive. For fighting, I loved almost ALL of Velious, but I have a very special place in my heart for Crystal Caverns- I love that dungeon.

Velk's. Amazing exp, one of the few upward-directional dungeons, and one of the best monk neckpieces ever - Crystalline torque

I so miss a screenshot I had. It was a quick exchange between me and my duo'ing friend. A RNG and a PAL can do more than you'd ever expect. He logs in one night and sends me a tell:

Toraque tells you, "Wanna go hit the hole?"
You tell Toraque, "Don't ever say that to me again."
Toraque tells you, "Gah!"

I also miss my "You have slain Quarm!" screenshot. How often did a pally get that particular kill shot?

Since we're doing the classic/kunark/velious thing:

Classic: Sol B (I spent the better portion of my 50+ life here as a solo monk)
Kunark: KC - Seb's half-witted little brother who's kind of endearing
Velious: Velks

All of Velious, that expansion was incredible. I remember taking the boat to Iceclad for the first time and getting to the Gnome camp then grouping outside ToFS. Then onward across Eastern Wastes to The Great Divide. How cool was it to run under the giant spires for the first time while avoiding Giants and their direwolves? When I saw the glowing creek and followed it through the waterfall to discover Thurgadin I was completely hooked on that expansion.

I was still mid-level when Velious came out, and I remember seeing all the raiding guilds guys procing 'Avatar' in my Velks groups and just being in wonder of the awesome items. Walking by the huge sleeping dragon.

I went back there when Luclin came out and I was a bit stronger and I had probably put the zone on a pedestal a bit, but it was still impressive.

Those Greater minos were giving my level 40 wizard faster and more consistent exp than specs were (plus, I had the added bonus of farming azure sleeves and ebony bladed swords). Rarely happens with soloing single mobs as a wizard =P

I liked Thurgadin. As a town, it was so easy to navigate. Everything in a circle, and the vendors had everything you could want.

For killing things, I enjoyed Kael. It was fun bringing a raid force into another working town, then heading to the arena to kill giants for quest armor, as well as killing AoW, Vindicator and King Tormax. It was also fun watching guildies get killed by Wuoshi on the way.

Kunark: I think i had more fun in Chardok then anything.
Velious: It has gotta be Kael. tons of time there first killin the giants then hanging out with them lol.

I have to say one of more fun moments in all of the game was when some random level 60 ranger led me through kael > waking lands > shyshrine > cocalt scar gate fang run. was so much fun i was scared stiff haha

old world newbie zones : Steamfont Mountains and Butcherblock were so nifty 1-10.. great spread of mobs and different types to kill.

In BB you had basilisks. .goblins, skellies.. chessboard, peg leg, aqua goblins..

In Steamfont you had newbie areas.. Windmills with pumas and higher undead... undead camps everywhere. kobold camps for humanoid loot.. mino caves!.. area in front of mino caves to get you to level 10+..

Just well thought out and designed zones all over.. very dynamic.

Favorite classic XP area was Cazic Thule. Always broke my heart it was never quite right on this server with the crazy Zaxis mob healing and pathing. Should have been a mad rush for rubicite instead of level 50 rogues and mages and shamans backtracking to it. Some of my fondest memories on live was XPing in Cazic with my portable baking spit, making lizard-on-a-stick as fresh as possible.

Lower guk (both sides) was a shining example of what EQ classic could have been like had anyone had the foresight EQ would be the hit it was and actually had the high-end content to support the early end game.

Which brings us to kunark... Which they were prepared for.. It's when EQ got really open-ended.. Overthere.. Skyfire.. Traks Teeth, Burning Woods. Dreads. Outdoor zones all over. Dungeon crawls in Karnors, Seb, HS, Chardok, Droga, Nurga, CoM, Kurns, etc. Epic encounters.. Outdoor dragons. There was literally always something going on and something to do. My favorite part about kunark was all of it, really. It recaptured that "newness" magic of racing for that first backpack and cracked staff on day one of launch.

It's going to be fun. :)

Favorite place in 1999: Everfrost/QH - How many times did I roll/reroll a Barbarian when I was 13?

Old World- Oasis of Marr. I know outside zones arent popular, but it just reminds me more of why I play the game. Tons of people to group with, wide open landscape, full of activity and fun to be had.

Kunark- Everything. But since I have to narrow it down, Field of Bone/Kurn's Tower. The two of them go hand and hand to me. Had so many classic battles while learning the ropes of EQ back in 2000 in these zones. Single handedly built my all Iksar guild be recruiting 99% of my players here. Just a special place to be.

Velious- Dragon Necropolis, reminded me of an advanced version of the Field of Bone, lol.

Classic: Gfay - Kelethin, orc hill, elves, faeries, everything you could want from a high fantasy rpg game, I don't think I even made it off Faydwer for a couple of months when I first started, and gfay was my home.
Kunark: FV - My first Kunark experience, and making that treacherous run to LOIO dodging spiders way higher than me was always a rush. Occasionally I would get ganked by that bad ass iksar necromancer too.
Velious: ToFS - My first velious experience was Iceclad ocean, and seeing a bad ass tower in the middle of it was exciting and I spent a ton of time exploring it and checking it out. :)

I feel exactly the same way. For my all time favorite gaming content, I have Final Fantasy Tactics and EQ's Shards of Velious in interchangeable #1 and #2 slots.

Oddly enough, EverQuest and Final Fantasy Tactics were side by side in Game Informer's 200 Greatest Games of All Time list (numbers 43 and 44 I believe).

I had monitored eqclassic.org for a few years hoping they could recreate vanilla EQ. When I learned of this place, that vanilla was live, and that the plan was to go through Velious...

Mm. Happy dwarf. Happy dwarf indeed.

I was a hardcore FFT player. I figured out that I could dupe Excaliburs, have four dual-excalibur-wielding knights with move+3, blade grasp, and monk side skills, and one black mage (with all white mage/oracle/etc skills which could be used with calc) with master calc side skills and an insane amount of spell damage gear (along with a chameleon robe to absorb holy dmg).

The first move of every fight thereafter was either CT 4 holy or CT 3 holy. It would literally kill every single opponent on the map and heal all of mine.

So ridiculous.

Gosh, now I want to play again.

I'm jaded about Iceclad. One of my biggest ups in my original eq career was completely randomly dropping Stormfeather while exploring. Conversely, camping Lodizal for 2 months dealing with 2 ninja looters, and multiple KSs sort of sucked.

Even to that point ^, I finally got my Lodizal map piece on my birthday in like 2002.

Oasis.

It's a zone that remains exactly as I remember it. The crowded population, wide level range, non stop action, options of orcs or crocs (and multiple places to camp each), annoyance of madmen adds, imminent danger of SG/spec trains, getting buffs at the dock, proximity to civilization, bright and sunny and easy to navigate at any level, perfect for both grouping and soloing, excitement of getting a piece of Lockjaw.

P99 really captures the spirit of the zone I experienced 10 years ago, and it's got a lot of perks that make it a really great place to level for a long time.

It wasn't so much that I could cheese it - it was that I figured out how. Once I did figure it out, the rest of my play was devoted to seeing what else I could do.

But nothing ever really compared to calc + holy + high spell damage + holy absorb - it was just too easy to blow up the whole field...

As a Necromancer, I've been everywhere, can go pretty much everywhere with a little caution, awareness, and knowledge of your spells.

Every little piece of Norrath has some memory of some significance to me, as I've explored or soloed almost every one of them.

Favorites? Well...I would have to say Everfrost for classic. I spent a lot of time there as a newbie.

For Kunark it would be...I dunno. I was never really fond of Kunark as I was other expansions. I have to say, though, soloing the giant fort in Frontier Mountains was a fun camp.

I loved Velious as a continent in general. I loved reading the journals of the storyline characters in the game manual, especially the Barbarian's account. I love snow :3, so Velious is a wonderful place all around to me.

Something I hope to experience here on p99 is all the stuff I missed. I completely forgot the huge spans of time I didn't actually play and only really got srs about my necro well into Luclin, PoP, and Ykesha. Gates and Omens were literally around the corner, and worthwhile gear was cheap after Ykesha came out and made tailoring not useless.

So I'm hoping to cut my teeth on old world difficulty and grit.

I started playing the game on Live right when Velious launched so all my most fond memories are all from velious zones. The zone i HATE the most is ToFS. Fuck ToFS right in its frozen ass.

Kael for the raiding and Thurgadin was the best town ever.

Crystal Caverns where I spent so much time on lower level toons

Cobalt Scar where I learned how to quad kite on my druid

Classic: Blackburrow/all of Qeynos and QH area - that's where the nostalgia really gets me. Also, South Karana is a great feel-good zone.

For some odd reason, I really love that Willo-wisp island between Qeynos and Erudin. My first character was a bard on Live and I didn't know wtf I was doing. I'd spend like 25-30 mins kiting one yellow-con wisp around and felt like a badass. Also got my first shark-death off the coast. Good times.

Kunark: Warsliks Woods, City of Mist, and an honorable mention to FM.

Velious: <3 What an incredible expansion. Everything about Velious was awesome to me. Crystal Caverns was my first adventure, and will always have a soft spot in my heart. Thurg, obviously, and the Great Divide. Also, you can't not love Plane of Mischief.

I didn't spend nearly enough time there on p1999... but Sol A was far and away my favorite zone in live, and far and away my favorite in p1999 tho it had some issues here that made it not nearly as fun.

I don't think any video game ever has built a more immersive, challenging, complicated, rewarding, brilliantly designed dungeon as Sol A. Different factions, plenty of traps, secret walls and paths, and if you learned the ropes, you could gain so much exp and loot and just pure fun out of it. Brilliant.

I played a bard. I loved to group, but I ended up soloing a lot because of my work hours. I would always try to farm named, my favorite things to solo were:

Phinny

BW for Gullerback and the Wurmslayer wurms. I must have done that quest like 10 times.

Chardok, lulling and invising my way in to the named spots, then soloing them with charm/mez/melee. I was so stoked when I finally got my Halfling Mask.

Siren's Grotto/Dragon Necropolis. Cool zones, always scary and exciting. Getting my ST key and getting to go raid and get a primal was really exciting.

Velious had a ton of zones I loved. All of the raid zones and cities were epic. Such a good expansion.

With my Shaman on p99, favorite zone has probly been Lguk, although it was too heavily farmed to get groups in when I was lvling up, and it's empty and green to me now, so I only got a couple groups there.

I love Steamfont. Extremely underrated zone. It's better for lower level characters than GFay and has content that supports a very wide level range. You could get to level 14 in Steamfont and then go back at 24 and level all the way into your 50's, if you wanted to.

For the past couple days I've been hunting in Steamfont and handing out money and equipment to lower level characters (they actually help me by selling it so that I can devote all of my time to killing and yet still benefit from part of the profits of the dropped items). That kind of synergetic interaction between players is part of what Everquest was built around. I love how the player population, and continual additions of new players to the server, is such that I can actually go to Steamfont see a good amount of low level people running around. I've specifically been telling some lowbies in Gfay to come over to the greener pastures of Steamfont, even.

Old world I'd have to say Castle Mistmoore and Cazic Thule. Although upper and lower guk and crushbone deserve honorable mentions. I'd also like to mention that EC will always have. For the past couple days I've been hunting in Steamfont and handing out money and equipment to lower level characters (that actually help me by selling it so that I can devote all of my time to killing and yet still benefit from part of the profits of the dropped items).

This is very true. When lfay sisters are camped, you can make great coin killing the minotaur slavers near the mines. They're all single-pulls as well.

Aside from the zone containing great exp/cash content for a wide level range (having vendors all around the zone is part of why it's good for making cash), it's so well designed and varied too. There are gnomes, kobolds, harpies, drakes, minotaurs, clockworks, elementals, casters, and a smattering of undead. There are peaks and vallies all over. The windmills are some of the most attractive looking structures in the entire game. The golden Dragon skeleton ruin is striking. The giant gears in the northeast corner of the zone are fun. The entrance valley to Akanon, with its mechanical look, is cool. Those mechanical touches throughout the zone contrast very well with how remote the zone actually is, and the amount of green coloring in the zone, creating a very unique dynamic.

I used to love unrest in classic, but not on P99.. It's always really crowded and there seems to be more trains. CT is nice, no one is ever there.

Classic: North Qeynos. I could sit there listening to that music for days and be content. Bountiful hunting that can take you as high as level 5 if you're diligent enough, fast respawns, and FIPPY! <3

Kunark: Karnor's. It's not overly special, but I like the idea of storming through a castle with a group to see what treasures we could find.

Velious: Tower of Frozen Shadows. I mean, sure it was a PITA if you died on the upper floors and you needed to get the keys to go back up, but it was a cool zone and, IIRC (been a looooooong time) it had a neat story to go with it.

Could you ever make it to the top floor? 0.o

Mistmoore and LGuk are prob my fav's for classic. Then Seb and HS for Kunark.

As far as raiding love it all. Best times were prob in Hate and Sky.

Fav story/moment was raiding sky and backing up to camp (/q) when we were wiping and ended up falling off. Only to see a msg as I was falling to freeport "you will not escape me" and being summoned back up and killed. LOL

LOL, what?

Unrest used to have 50+ (number, not level) people in it and was absolutely notorious for its trains. The times I've been to it on P99 (also just asked someone in-game before I stopped playing for the day), there have always been less than 20.

Cazic-Thule makes me sad now, total ghost town. :( Do you solo there? I can't imagine wanting to be in that zone without a group, unless it's to pick up a quest item.

Eruds Crossing...no one ever there, amazing music and Greater Lightstones are a great way to make PP at lower level. I think it's the best looking Island in the game.

Old World: Mistmoore -- Vamps. Nuff Said.
Kunark: DL -- Drolvargs. I wish they were a playable race. And the drider things make me a happy drow.
Velious: Velks -- Icy ramps.

Qeynos Hills for me.

Spent so much of my formative time in EQ doing 3-10ish with a number of different characters over in there, collecting fangs, slaughtering rabid animals, getting killed by those tree huggers for killing said rabid animals, being amazed at the "rich" "high levels" camping hadden or pyzjn.

Ahh, fond memories.

Rathe Mountains.

Great leveling from 20-50, plus a great layout. Lizards, Orcs, Basilisks, Drakes, Giant Skeletons, Unkempt Druids, Egyptian Beetles, named Griffons, and of course the almighty Hill Giant mountain.

Plus, each of the species has a rare mob/drop that is pretty valuable. And to top it all off, an NPC who gives a quest for freakin' SoW boots.

Cazic Thule always held a special place for me on Live. I love the way the zone looks and the avatar of fear was really cool for someone before going to actual fear. I met the best group of friends in my EQ career on Torvonnilous in CT. Shout out to Eliezar, Angel, Rohk, and Rumblebelly.

Rivervale, karnors castle ( always fun place to be as a druid), and veeshan's peak are cool.

In velious i'd say western wastes, siren's grotto, cobalt scar (hanging with the otters makes you happy) but dragon necropolis and temple of veeshan were epic as fuck too.

Gfay & Kelethin / Qeynos & Qeynos Hills / Black Burrow. I absolutely love those places.

Kunark... I don't like Kunark at all. The color scheme sucks.

Velious... Definitely Wakening Lands. I about lost it when I turned on my sound once and heard Gfay's music playing. Brought back so many memories. That and the zone is just gorgeous. And any zone w/ otters.

See this is one of the reasons it was a playground for me as a pally. I'd have along my ranger buddy, or the wife would be on her CLR. We could get through the poisons well enough.

Great times I cannot wait to relive.

I also LOVED the otters in CS. I had an alt druid I also learned to quad with in the zone. I loved the chittering otters. When Sony began asking the community about a new playable race prior to Ykesha, I really wanted it to be the otters. I could see running around as an otter shaman... chittering with every cast.
