I'm going to be duoing with a new necromancer on this server shortly. I've considered many classes and have narrowed it down to a shaman, enchanter, cleric or mage, and I'm leaning towards shaman. Which would benefit a necromancer the most? This is a new player and I would like their experience to be as smooth and enjoyable as possible as I'd like to keep them around :)

Enc > Mage > Shaman > Cleric to be paired with a Necro, in my opinion.

Enc nec will give you a great upperhand, especially leveling up from nothing. My brother and i are this team and it works well for us.
On the other hand, Shamans are about to become incredibly powerful.

The best duo I've ever seen with a Necromancer was a Magician, but those 2 players stuck to large outdoor zones where they could kite. I definitely wouldn't go with Cleric.

If you wanted to dominate the undead you could go with the nec/cleric. That lets you destroy undead if you wanna duo, but it also puts you in a great position to start a group. All you would need is a tank for most grinding groups.
Mage/nec seems ok but far less utility and diversity.
The enchanter has great utility but their clarity will "only" benefit you since I believe it does not stack with lich. Also, I think necros can or will be able to mez with kunark.
The shaman is a very utility-heavy class. They can buff up the pet and do some decent dps. I don't know how the dots stack though on this server.

1: Necros can mez for 4 ticks at lvl 24.
2: Clarity is better than call of bones(lvl 34 -hp/+mana self buff) imo, since it doesn't drain hp and it provides the same amount of mana regen. Only at 49+ does lich trump clarity.
3: Mage/Necro has a ton of power with the 2 pets and can brute force its way through 1-50 and maybe into Kunark?. Mage can heal his pet, necro can lifeflow it in dungeons, while outdoors, the necro can disease cloud and darkness and kite the mobs all day while the 2 pets beat on it.
4: Enchanter/necro works well too. You can't go wrong with 2 pet classes. :D

Sham > Enc > Mage > Cleric.
Regrowth + Torp are just silly OP'd on both the shaman and when put on the necros. Probably every necros first goal in kunark is making friends with a shaman they can stand for hours on end. Esp starting out, getting SOW at level 9 will make necro / shaman shine.
Enchanter is very useful too, CC and non-los lull always nice.. Haste and clarity as well is nice between 29-34 for the necro. Enchanter pets are actually really solid tanks at low levels, despite their control issues. And come kunark any group is better with an enchanter, so ENC/NEC is a solid backbone for any group.
Mage and necro can split just about anything with feign pull, lull, root, etc.. a much better dungeon crawl duo than ppl give them credit for. mage damage shield adds a ton of free dps and with pet taunt off the necro can focus on tappin mobs and helping heal the mage pet for 0 downtime, like ever.
Cleric and necro does just fine.. Cleric can fear saving necro mana, heals and buffs are always solid, and remember cleric lull is awesome for splitting camps, plus clerics can root/park CC at early levels.. And of course this combo does splendid vs undead... the real bonus is cleric allows the necro to do live mobs + dungeons too, with lulls and roots and fears, etc.

What bubbles said for the order.
However, everyone likes to yap about torpor. And yeah, it IS awesome. But so is c2, and no one ever hypes enchanters up for people by mentioning c2 but not the other, even better stuff enchanters can do.
Sham slows are amazing. They have mana-free dps (pet). They have a DPS style that works well with necros (moar dots!). Canni gives them better mana regen than a cle or mage paired with the necro would have, so helps keep the workload more even between the two. Malo isn't a huge deal usually but it certainly doesn't hurt. Etc.

As a shaman, duo'in with a necro is kinda meh. necro+enchanter seems really strong.

I vote Shammy Necro, I am thinking long term, not just in classic as necro/Shammy get super powerful

I'd probably go with Shaman/Necro. Kunark changes the dungeon game a lot. Quite honestly, necro won't do all that well using his pet as a tank without a shaman to slow - which is why druid/necro simply won't be as effective in 55+ situations...the pet simply gets chewed up by kunark mobs - esp any of the ones in KC or Seb.
Oh, and screaming terror mostly sucks aside from caster mobs. It's okay for a quick mezz then root the mob you just mezzed - but in most cases, why not just root? Effective for those pesky healers, though...

No question it's Shaman Necro.
